CBI to speed up probes into high profile cases

Hyderabad, September 25: The CBI is all set to speed up the three bigticket probes currently in its docket: the Emaar deal, alleged illegal assets of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and the alleged illegal mining activities of Gali Janardhan Reddy. The agency will begin questioning of some top bureaucrats this week.The plan of action, sources said, was finalised after the recent visit of special CBI director, Balwinder Singh. Simultaneously, the agency is gearing up for the probe into the illegal mining in Karnataka following the Supreme Court directions.

MIM rules out supporting Telangana strike

Hyderabad, September 25: Stating that its stand on the Telangana issue remains unchanged, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Sunday ruled out supporting the ongoing “people’s strike” in the region for a separate state.

MIM president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi said his party would never support strike as it was only causing misery to the poor. “We can never support strike. How will the poor survive,” he asked while addressing a press conference here.

IRS officer suspended

Hyderabad, September 25: An adverse preliminary report by the CBI on the alleged disproportionate assets amassed by senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer M Anil Kumar has led to his suspension. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which functions under the Union Finance Ministry, recently issued orders placing Anil Kumar under suspension following receipt of the report.

Nissan Ashok Leyland’s new LCV out

Hyderabad, September 25: Despite spiralling interest rates and fears of a double dip recession, the growth of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) is likely to remain robust during the current fiscal, according to V Sumantran, executive vicepresident of Hinduja Automotive Ltd and chairman of Nissan Ashok Leyland Powertrain Ltd.

“LCV is one of the few segments that registered a growth during the 20082009 economic recession while others, including passenger vehicles, recorded a dip. It is estimated that LCV sales will touch the 5 lakh figure by 2015 from the current 3.80 lakh.” Sumantran said.

Woman officer iInvolved in Chennai IT fraud

Hyderabad, September 25: The probe by Chennai-based officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation into the Rs. 50 lakh bribery case involving additional commissioner of income tax in Chennai, Andasu Ravindar, has led the sleuths to the doorstep of another senior income tax officer.

The investigating agency has got certain leads suggesting that Ravinder and another senior IT officer had conspired together and a portion of the bribe money was meant to be delivered to the latter.

Ravinder was caught with Rs. 50 lakh in cash on August 30.

Needed: Incentive to recycle waste

Hyderabad, September 25: Industries in India generate an estimated 100 million tonnes of nonhazardous solid waste every year.

Municipal solid waste generated in urban areas in the country amounts to 50 million tonnes and 6000 million cubic metres of liquid waste.

Where does all the garbage go? In Hyderabad, areas such as Jawahar Nagar have mountains of disposed waste.

Jogarao Bhamidipati, vice-president, commercial ITC Ltd said the city spends around Rs 17 crore for waste management every month.

T ‘brake’ for Mahesh’s Dukudu

Hyderabad, September 25: Mahesh Babu’s latest flick Dukudu, which hit the screens on Friday, ran into rough weather during its very first show in Ranga Reddy district.

A group of Telangana students obstructed its screening at some cinemas demanding that the film unit apologise for booking a case against them.

Dukudu’s screening was reportedly stopped at one cinema each in Vikarabad, Parigi, Tandur, Chevella and Shamshabad.

The film unit had planned a shooting schedule at the Vikarabad railway station on July 30.

CBI special director arrives in City

Hyderabad, September 25 : Issues pertaining to the illegal detention and alleged torture of Muslim youth by the Hyderabad police soon after the bomb blast in Mecca Masjid, is reported to have figured during the meeting between Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan and special director (CBI) Balwinder Singh.

Balwinder Singh, who was the then Hyderabad police commissioner when the blast took place, met AK Khan at his office in Basheerbagh on Friday.

He spent over an hour with Khan.

New service: Pick up and Drop Facility for new Mothers

Hyderabad, September 25: The GVK-EMRI which renewed its MoU with the state government for the ‘108’ emergency management services till 2016, has planned to further expand the service to benefit ‘poorest of the poor’.

The GVK group which took over the Emergency Management and Research Institute in May 2009, has called upon all its employees to resume duties without any fear.The new MoU calls for expansion of 108 services with 48-hour pick and drop of mothers after deliveries in government hospitals.

Further, it expects reducing both maternal and infant mortality in the state.

Talks fail, EMRI employees face ESMA threat

Hyderabad, September 25: The ‘108’ ambulances are bound to stay off the road for a few more days as the talks between the employees and the government have broken down.

According to sources, commissioner of family welfare Y Srilakshmi and GVK -EMRI director K Krishnamraju and other officials held talks with the employees here on Friday.

As many as 4,500 employees have been on strike for the past 12 days demanding acceptance of their demands.
