Three constables held for extorting Rs 12 lakh

Hyderabad, September 26: Three city police constables were arrested on Sunday for extorting Rs 12 lakh from employees of a Mumbaibased plastic dealer. The arrested trio are DS Nagesh Goud attached with the Central Crime Station, G Mahesh Yadav and S Mahesh Kumar, attached with Sultan Bazar and Shalibanda police stations respectively. According to police, a Mumbaibased plastic dealer, Ashok Bhai has nearly 10 clients in the city to whom he supplies plastic material. One customer, Vishnu Solanki collects money from other clients on behalf of Ashok Bhai regularly.

Adventure Club denied permission for rally

Hyderabad, September 26: Members of a city-based adventure club were prevented by Rangareddy police from taking out a rally on Sunday, due to lack of prior permission.

According to police, the club members had planned to take out a rally to Chittempally village in Vikarabad and explore the scenic beauty and rocky hillocks. They set off in 38 vehicles from the city. But those who reached there first created a flutter among locals.

According to details Nagesh Goud belonging to Central Crime Station (CCS) along with other three constables, Mahesh Kumar of Shalibanda police station, Mahesh Goud and Mahesh Yadav of Sultan Bazar had threatened a businessman at road no 36 of posh area Banjara Hills and robbed him of 12 lakh rupees.

DIG to be quizzed in Sohrabuddin case

Hyderabad, September 26: A DIG rank officer is likely to be questioned by a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Sohrabuddin killing. A CBI team from Delhi led by DIG Kandaswamy arrived in Hyderabad three days ago in connection with the probe. Sources told Express that Kandaswamy is in the city to question the DIG rank officer as CBI believes he played a key role in providing logistics support to the Gujarat police team, which ended up in the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauserbi in November 2005.

AP: New UAV, chopper to help track down Maoists

Hyderabad, September 26: In a move to boost the antinaxal operations in the state, the government would soon be utilising an unmanned aerial vehicle and a helicopter to track down naxalite movement in deep forests and take up rescue operation. The UAV and the chopper, provided to a state for the first time by Centre, would start operating from October and November respectively.

Four hurt as bus hits bike

Hyderabad, September 26: A person suffered serious injuries while three of his family, including two children suffered minor injuries at Malakpet on Sunday.

The family of Muneeruddin were going to their house at Edi Bazar when an RTC bus coming from behind hit them. Police said, the bus was being driven by a person who was taken on contract basis in view of RTC employees’ strike.

Police said Muneeruddin and his wife and two children aged 4 and 2, suffered injuries. The bus driver fled from the spot.

Couple dies in accident

Hyderabad, September 26: A couple was killed and their children seriously injured in a car accident that occurred on the Telugu Talli flyover, late on Sunday night.

The Santro car in which the couple and their children were travelling was hit by a speeding lorry from the opposite direction on the flyover.

Saifabad police subinspector S Vijay Kumar said Yadaiah (50) and Chandrakala (45), a couple from Katedan in Old City were killed in the mishap while their children are undergoing treatment.

Setting Deadlines for Telangana unrealistic

Hyderabad, September 26: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has reiterated that the BJP will get the maximum benefit in a separate Telangana state.

Nuclear Capable Prithvi-II Missile Successfully Test-Fired

Balasore (Orissa), September 26 : India today successfully test-fired its nuclear capable ‘Prithvi-II’ ballistic missile, with a range of 350 kms, as part of user trial by the armed forces from Chandipur off Orissa coast, about 15 km from here.

“The indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile was flight tested at around 8.50 AM from a mobile launcher from the Integrated Test Range launch complex-III,” ITR Director S P Dash said.

Firing At Kabul CIA Compound, 2 Injured

Kabul, September 26: A compound in Kabul used by the US’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) came under attack Sunday, officials said, the latest in a series of assaults in the Afghan capital.

Afghan interior ministry spokesman Siddiq Siddiqui said police had heard “a couple of minutes” of gunfire from inside the Ariana Hotel compound at around 9.15pm local time.

“Our police heard there were some shots from inside the Ariana compound,” he said. But he added that Afghan forces could not go inside as the site “belongs to coalition forces” and was “not within the reach of police”.

1,700 bodies found in Libya mass grave

Tripoli, September 26: Libyan interim government officials have discovered a mass grave that they say contains the remains of more than 1,700 prisoners killed by forces of the former regime in a 1996 massacre.

Khalid Sharif, military spokesman for the National Transitional Council, said on Sunday that remains of the executed detainees were unearthed at Tripoli’s notorious Abu Salim jail.

“We found the place where all these martyrs were buried,” Sharif was quoted by AFP as saying.

Minor raped in a Nashik village

Nasik, September 26: A minor girl from Peint taluka in the district, was allegedly raped by a youth, police said.

The 13-year-old girl, studying in Imambari government ashram school in tribal-dominated taluka, was found in an unconscious state at the back of the school today, they added.

According to Mangla Gosavi, a social worker from Peint, the girl was absent from the school from the past three days, but was found in an unconscious state behind the school.

The girl was admitted to Nashik Civil Hospital, police said.

Advani skips annual visit to Somnath temple

A huge explosion has reportedly taken place near the presidential palace in Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul, injuring at least three people.

The incident occurred Sunday night when a missile was reportedly launched from an unidentified location, targeting the palace. The rocket attack was followed by gunfire, according to local reports.
