Dilip recalls memory, writes to Sharmila

Mumbai, September 26: When legendary actor and thespian Dilip Kumar heard about the demise of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi on the television news, he recognized his friend and immediately called his secretary and dictated a letter, which he sent to Sharmila Tagore, the actress wife of Pataudi.

‘Tiger’ Pataudi passed away on Wednesday evening in New Delhi with his family, son Saif Ali Khan and daughters Soha and Saba along with Sharmila by his side. He had been suffering from a lung complication and had been in the hospital for over a month.

New scheme for eradication of corruption income & other certificates in 15 minutes

Jaipal denies holding back gas from state

Hyderabad, September 26: Union petroleum minister S Jaipal Reddy on Sunday denied holding back gas allocation made to the state under pressure from Telangana MPs. In a letter to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Jaipal Reddy said he had come to know that he (Kiran) was under the impression that he had cancelled the allocation of gas to Andhra Pradesh. But he asserted that the issue of stopping the release of gas had not figured when the Telangana MPs had paid him a visit.

Congress Troika roar at Uttarandhra meet

Vishakapatnam, September 26: Uttarandhra Congress Garjana, a public meeting organised by the Pradesh Congress Committee on the sands of Ramakrishna Beach here on Sunday, sent out a loud warning to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy not to underestimate the Congress as it was too a formidable force for him to confront.

Rail roko takes toll on stranded passengers

Vijayawada, September 26: If we would have known the condition before, we would not have started from home. We are helpless now with no food, shelter and not even enough money left with us, said a woman, who was stranded at the Vijayawada railway station due to the TJAC rail roko while trying to make laugh her sobbing one and half year old baby. The woman boarded a train at Nagpur with her husband, who is working with a private company in Hyderabad.

Telangana: KK, BJP slam government

New Delhi, September 26: Rebel Congress leader K Keshav Rao joined hands with the BJP to slam the UPA Government for not delivering a separate Telangana state during an all-party meeting on Sunday.

The Telangana Joint Action Committee had organised the all-party meeting to garner a national-level support for its ongoing protests in Andhra Pradesh.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the BJP, rebel Congress, rebel TDP, TRS, RLD, and the CPI.

Rao and BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad warned the UPA Government against playing with the people’s sentiments.

Power output at Vijayawada hit

Vijayawada, September 26: Power generation was affected at Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) on Sunday as the VI unit developed a technical snag. At present, only five units are generating power at the thermal station as the V unit is undergoing overhaul. Consequently, the power generation in the thermal plant came down. Thermal station chief engineer G Kishore Babu said there was no coal shortage for the plant as they are getting coal from Talcher. It is also receiving coal supplies from Chennai port. On Sunday, it got 11 rakes of coal and of them five were from Talcher.

TTD renovates 986 old cottages on Tirumala

Tirumala, September 26: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman Kanumuri Bapiraju inspected the cottages that have been renovated at Tirumala on Sunday. Speaking to the media here on Sunday, he said that the TTD has taken up the task of renovating the old cottages at Tirumala at the cost of `36 crore. Currently, of the 3,471 cottages, 986 have been renovated at the cost of `4 crore. The remaining 2,485 cottages will be renovated by March 2012, the chairman said.

‘Future of Samme to be decided soon’

Hyderabad, September 26: The Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram said a decision would be announced in two to three days on the future course of the Sakala Janula Samme.

The TJAC chairman along with leaders of employees’ unions conferred with TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and said a decision would be taken soon on the method through which the T movement should be taken forward.

Kodandaram said a bandh call has been given by small industries and PSUs on Monday.

Power cut extended to industries

Hyderabad, September 26: Hemmed in on all sides by the Telangana Sakala Janula Samme, people in most parts of Telangana, particularly the state capital, were only too happy to stay home Sunday. With the entire transportation system crippled for the last three days, there was nowhere to go. The end of the 48hour rail roko at 6 pm Sunday brought passengers back to the railway platforms but the logjam in the rail system is likely to make travel difficult for a few more days.

Power situation turns precarious

Hyderabad, September 26: The APTransco is bringing the industrial sector too under the powercut regime from Monday. It will be total for one day in a week and for four hours during peak hours- 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm- every day.

The power supply situation is becoming precarious. According to officials, the gap between supply and demand is widening. The gap as on September 24 was above 27 million units (MU). This is leading to imposition of power cuts on all sectors.

Small industry workers likely to go on strike

Hyderabad, September 26: Small industries in and around Hyderabad might shut shop for two days from Monday, following a bandh call given by The Telangana Industrialists’ Federation in support of the Sakala Janula Samme. The call might not affect medium and big industries with the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry making it clear it was not supporting the bandh.

Parents want schools exempted from strike

Warangal, September 26: As the struggle for Telangana intensifies day by day, students in Warangal district are losing interest in academics. Though parents are all for the Telangana cause, they want schools to be exempted from the agitation.

“My elder son sings songs in support of a separate Telangana state and the younger one shouts “Jail Telangana” slogans. Both of them have lost interest in studies. They do not study even at home,” said R Tirupati Reddy, a resident of Royal Enclave in Hanamkonda.

Karimnagar, September 26: Forty two year old Pochampalli Kistaiah, a farmer of Bhoopathipur in Sultanabad mandal, has five acres of land on which he cultivates paddy and cotton. Recently, he got a new bore well dug in his field as ground water had started depleting and he had no other source of irrigation for his field. He struggled to sow seeds and bought fertilizers on credit.

T supporter commits suicide in Warangal

Hyderabad, September 26: The ongoing Telangana agitation further intensified on its 14th day in Warangal when a local 20 year old auto driver Yakayya, disappointed over the delay in formation of Telangana, committed suicide by consuming poison.

In his suicide note he demanded resignation from all Telangana MLAs of Congress. He further stated in the note that the sate government is not concerned over the deaths of pro Telangana youth. Decision is not being taken in favour of Telangana despite the suicides committed by several youth.

Dangerous rowdysheeter held, lethal weapons recovered

Hyderabad, September 26: Commissioner Task force south zone team has arrested a dangerous rowdy sheeter Abu Ali Khan and his two aides Amir Abdullah and Khaja Ghouse Mohiuddin associated with Husaini Alam police and recovered sword, dagger and a base ball bat from his possession.

According to details Abu Ali Khan’s rowdy sheet was opened in the year 2007 and he was involved in more that 20 cases under Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerate.

It is said that Abu was also involved in the cases of attack on policemen in the past and a nonbailable warrant is pending against him.

Special buses come to the rescue of students

With the streets being deserted with hardly any mode of public transport, groups of students were seen tensely waiting for some transport to take them to their exam centres on time.
