40% Indians embarrassed to ask for contraceptives

New Delhi, September 27: As many as 40 percent Indians are embarrassed to ask for contraceptives, said a global survey released Monday.

The survey added that despite campaigns to promote safe sex, nearly three-quarters of sexually active people globally don`t use them.

Also, it stated that 32 percent of Indians said they were not at the risk of pregnancy.

The survey, which also covered India, said that 72 percent don`t use a contraceptive with a new partner, putting them at high risk of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Man writes book on sex with dolphin

London, September 27: An American author has written a book detailing his nine-month-long sexual relationship with a female dolphin, a media report said.

Malcolm Brenner’s book “Wet Goddess: Recollection of a dolphin lover” recounts his love affair in the 1970s with a captive female dolphin named Ruby, The Sun reported.

Brenner says he had a “sexual relationship” with the dolphin and that it was she that “initiated” the sex.

DIG to be quizzed in Sohrabuddin case

Hyderabad, September 27: A DIG rank officer is likely to be questioned by a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Sohrabuddin killing. A CBI team from Delhi led by DIG Kandaswamy arrived in Hyderabad three days ago in connection with the probe. Sources told Express that Kandaswamy is in the city to question the DIG rank officer as CBI believes he played a key role in providing logistics support to the Gujarat police team, which ended up in the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauserbi in November 2005.

Tight security at government offices in Telangana

Hyderabad, September 26: Taking serious note of the attacks on government officials by striking employees in the Telangana region, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy Monday ordered police to enhance protection to officers and deal firmly with the culprits.

After reviewing the situation caused by the “people’s strike” which entered its 14th day Monday, he also asked police to book the culprits who manhandled the officers and staff at transport commissioner’s office and other government offices.

Sania may undergo surgery on injured knee, says her father

Hyderabad, September 26: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza will undergo surgery on her injured knee if her current treatment does not respond well, her father said here on Monday.

Sania’s father Imran Mirza told reporters here that she was presently undergoing a course of injections with the hope that she responds to the treatment and does not need a surgery.

“We will know in a week’s time whether the injections treatment has worked, if they don’t work, then Sania has to have another surgery and we will fly back to India for that,” Imran said.

Chidambaram offers to resign over 2G note row

New Delhi, September 26: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has offered to resign during his meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday to discuss the 2G note sent by the Finance Ministry to the Prime Minister’s Office.
In the meeting, which lasted for about 20 minutes, Chidambaram explained his point of view on the 2G spectrum allocation issue and reportedly told Sonia that he does not want to embarrass the party.

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee also met Sonia at 10 Janpath to discuss the 2G note.

Hyderabad shutdown on Sept 30

Hyderabad, September 26: Intensifying the movement for a separate Telangana state, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Monday called for a shutdown in Hyderabad on September 30 and a three-day ‘rail blockade’ across the region next month.

After a meeting of the steering committee, the JAC announced that a large-scale road blockade would be held in Hyderabad on September 28. “There will be road blockade at at least 100 places,” said JAC convenor M Kodandaram.

Hyderabad, September 26: The Andhra Pradesh State Haj Committee has finalised the arrangements for the Haj Camp scheduled to begin on Tuesday at the Haj House at Nampally.

Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammad Ahmadullah on Monday reviewed the arrangements for the Haj Camp at a meeting attended by Haj Committee chairman Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed and other SHC members. Unprotected sex rampant: Global survey

New Delhi, September 26: Despite widespread campaigns to promote safe sex, close to three-quarters of sexually active people around the world don’t use contraceptives, said a global survey released Monday.

The study, which also covered India, said that 72 percent don’t use contraceptive with a new partner, putting them at high risk of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

In countries like Australia, Chile, Colombia, Britain, Indonesia, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Sweden and Turkey, nearly 40 percent people have already had unprotected sex with a new partner.

Judicial Accountability Bill in next session

New Delhi, September 26: The Centre on Monday said it is hoping to get the Judicial Accountability Bill, aimed at dealing with complaints of the public against judges among other things, passed in the winter session of Parliament.

“We are preparing the Judicial Accountability Bill and if it is possible, we would like to get it passed in the next session of Paraliament,” Law Minister Salman Khurshid said here.

He said government will try to discuss some important points of electoral reforms and pass it in Parliament in a stipulated time period.

2 die, 30 injured in a road mishap

Bidar, September 26: Two people were killed on the spot and 30 others were injured when a goods tempo in which they were travelling collided with a lorry coming in the opposite direction, near Honnekeri cross in Bidar taluk today. Police said the deceased were identified as Shivraj Biradar (58) and Shivkumar (40), both residents of Madur village in Aurad taluk. Police said the tempo was on its way from Kamalnagar to Bidar. The injured were admitted to government hospital here.

Yemeni forces clash with protesters

Sanaa, September 26: Heavy clashes were reported in several areas of the southern city of Taizz overnight, a Press TV correspondent reported on Monday.

The clashes began after Saleh came back from Saudi Arabia, where he was treated for injuries received during an attack on his palace three months ago.

More than 100 protesters have been killed in less than a week.

Anti-regime protesters reiterated once again that Saleh must be ousted and brought to justice for killing peaceful protesters.

US-led soldier killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, September 26: The soldier was killed on Monday, the Western military alliance said without giving further details about the nationality of the soldier.

The latest death brings to 38 the number of foreign troops killed in the war-torn country so far this month, AP reported.

On Sunday, two foreign soldiers serving with NATO were killed in separate incidents in troubled eastern Afghanistan.

Insecurity has spread from Afghanistan’s volatile south to relatively peaceful areas during the past year, despite the presence of around 150,000 foreign troops in the country.

Hyderabad, September 26: For surveillance on naxalites, the state police will deploy aero planes without pilots. This was disclosed by Mr. Dinesh Reddy, DGP while talking to newsmen yesterday. Attempts is also being made to procure a helicopter also for relief work. With the help of such planes, it would be possible to detect explosive materials. These planes will also send pictures of movements of Maoists in forests.

According to the details, one Yadiah of Kattedhan, along with his wife Chandrakala and two children Ravi and Hari, was passing from the place as they were going from Bolarum to Kattedhan in their Santro car at 11.30 pm.

Tree which saved 150 lives needs protection

28th September 2011 will mark the completion of 103 years of the famous Musi river flood. On Tuesday 28th September 1908 Hyderabad experienced catastrophic floods of River Musi, flowing across the city. In one day, 17 inches rainfall was once recorded and the water level at Afzalgunj was around 11 feet high.

This is the photo of the historical tamarind tree at Afzal Park in Osmania General Hospital premises taking whose support more that 150 people had saved their lives during the flood. This tree is also called as Masiha (Messiah).
