Telangana: Industries stop work for second day

Hyderabad, September 27: The industrial shutdown in Telangana entered its second day on Tuesday as the protests in the region continued even after 15 days.

Workers of Public Sector Units, including BHEL and Ordnance Factory, and private sector majors like Aurobindo, Reddy Labs and Matrix will abstain from work.

Meanwhile, a road roko agitation is also set to begin later on Tuesday, causing more inconvenience to the already stalled transport system around all 10 districts of the Telangana region.

‘Saudi woman to be tried for driving’

Riyadh, September 27: A Saudi Arabian activist who defied the kingdom’s prohibition on women driving will be put on trial, her lawyer says.

Najalaa Harrir’s lawyer said she has been summoned for questioning by a prosecutor general in the city of Jeddah, AFP reported on Sunday.

Harrir is one of the many Saudi females who are part of a campaign against the government’s discrimination against women, including the driving ban.

Their campaign is called “My Right, My Dignity.”

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that bans women — both Saudi and foreign — from driving.

France to Build Islamic Center in Paris

Paris, September 27: Paris plans to build a new Islamic center to address two issues, a dearth of mosques for the city’s sizable Muslim community and a new law banning street prayers. In the interim, Muslims been invited to worship in an unusual venue – an old fire station at the edge of the city.

For many practicing Muslims in Paris, Friday prayers means having to pack in overflowing mosques. Or when there is no more space, by rolling out prayer rugs on the city’s sidewalks. No longer.

Lagadapati asks parties to clear ‘T’ stand

New Delhi, September 27: Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Monday asked all that the parties to make their stand clear on Telangana issue.

Talking to media persons, the MP said that the Congress party was already holding internal discussions to resolve the Telangana issue. However, he said more than the Centre, the political parties need to hold consultations to bring consensus on the issue.

Sonia, Pranab, Chidambaram are in 2G row

New Delhi, September 27: Amid the controversy over the finance ministry note on the 2G spectrum allocation which suggested a rift between Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today held separate meetings with the two senior ministers at her 10 Janpath residence.

She was said to have heard their views, and is likely to take a call on the matter after discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who returns from New York tomorrow evening.

26 students killed in Pak bus accident

Islamabad, September 27: Twenty-six students were killed and at least 78 others were injured Monday night in a bus accident when they were returning from a picnic in eastern Pakistan, officials said.

The accident took place near Kalar Kahar town, a tourist destination about 125 km from Islamabad. The students, from Millat Grammar School in Faisalabad city, were returning from a picnic in the town, Xinhua reported.

Police said the driver lost control of the overloaded vehicle when taking a turn. The bus was carrying over a 100 students although it had a capacity of only 72 people.

People who don’t get depressed are weird: Dunst

London, September 27: Actress Kirsten Dunst believes that almost everyone suffers depression and those who do not suffer are “weird”.

The 29-year-old plays a severely depressed woman in her latest movie “Melancholia”.

“People are embarrassed to talk about it. I would never put anyone down (who) was in that kind of space. I think most human beings go through some sort of depression in their life – and if they don’t, I think that’s weird,” contactmusic.com quoted Dunst as saying.

TDP to boycott Banswada by-polls

Hyderabad, September 27: The Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum has decided to boycott the Banswada by-elections scheduled to be held on October 13.

The decision was taken in the Forum’s meeting held at Telugu Desam Legislature Party office here on Monday. Shankar Rao now targets Sabitha on corruption

Hyderabad, September 27: A day after firing salvo against Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Handlooms and Textiles Minister Dr P Shankar Rao found a new target on Monday.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Shankar Rao alleged that Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy was involved in corruption at a large-scale. He accused the Home Minister of taking bribe to execute official works. He alleged that Sabitha’s corruption network was being operated by her relatives including her son and brother.

London, September 27: A 45-year-old woman has been sent for 16-month imprisonment over having sex with dog and child. The woman is from Kent in Britain.

Police discovered images of the woman in her house. All illegal pictures reportedly show her unnatural sex with dog and child. The court announced 16-month-imprisonment for the guilty.

Boy murdered over a tea cup

New Delhi, September 27: The death of a 16-year-old minor boy in northeast Delhi over a cup of tea that cost Rs 2.50 on the premises of one of the busy police stations in the capital has jolted Seelampur residents who claim that police inaction had led to the death. DCP (northeast) Sanjay Kumar Jain denied any police involvement in the case saying the incident took place at least 30 metres away from the police station.

Subramanian Swamy Alleges, Rs 60,000-Cr Changed Hands In 2G Scam

Indore, September 27: Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy on Sunday alleged that nearly Rs 60,000-crore changed hands in the Rs 1,76,000-crore 2G spectrum allocation scam.Talking to mediapersons here, Swamy claimed he had documents to prove that the scam took place with the knowledge of A Raja and P Chidambaram.

Swamy demanded a separate CBI probe against Chidambaram saying that the documents so far provided to the investigative agency were not complete. If the probe begins that nobody cannot stop him from going to jail, he added.

T activists manhandle RTA official

Hyderabad, September 27: The Telangana activists on Monday barged into premises of Road Transport Authority office at Khairtabad demanding withdrawal of show-cause notices served on employees.

Raising ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans, the activists entered the office of Assistant Commissioner Srinivasa Rao demanding that he withdraw the notices served on employees immediately. The activists had a heated argument with the Assistant Commissioner and manhandled him during the argument.

CAT adjourns DGP appointment hearing to Nov 3

Secretariat staff intensifies strike

Hyderabad, September 27: Hundreds of Telangana employees in the State Secretariat on Monday intensified their strike demanding separate statehood for the region.

Besides regular demonstration, the staff launched a blind fold sit-in dharna in front of the Chief Minister’s C block. As part of the Sakala Janula Samme which entered 13th day on Monday, the Class IV staff also joining the stir. With the Class IV staff joining the agitating staff the government vehicular movement has been hit.
