Andhra MP, Telangana leaders arrested

Hyderabad, September 27: Police Tuesday arrested Congress MP from Vijayawada L. Rajagopal and Telangana leaders from the office of the transport commissioner here to avert a clash.

Tension grew as leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Congress MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi and state legislator Vishnuvardhan rushed to the office after they learnt that Rajagopal had reached there to call on the official who was attacked by Telangana activists a day earlier.

Madrasa girl wins science innovation award but poverty stops her from pursuing science

Kolkata, September 27: Rahia Khatun, a madrasa student in West Bengal, has won a science innovation award from Government of India. The sole purpose of the award is to inspire youths to pursue science after Class X in higher studies but Rahia’s tragedy is that after winning the award as a Class X student of a madrasa in Birbhum district, she can’t pursue the subject any more. Thanks to poverty and no support from any quarter of the society, she has opted for Arts stream in Class XI at a local High School.

PM, Sonia to meet colleagues on 2G note

New Delhi, September 27: With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returning to Delhi Tuesday night, he and Congress president Sonia Gandhi will meet separately with ministers and party leaders Wednesday to defuse a crisis over 2G spectrum allotment involving former finance minister P. Chidambaram, who is now home minister.

Chidambaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had met Gandhi separately Monday evening to explain their positions over the issue that the opposition has lapped up to demand Chidambaram’s ouster.

CBI refuses to probe Chidambaram’s role in 2G scam

New Delhi, September 27: The CBI Tuesday objected to the central government telling the Supreme Court that it will examine documents given by Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy indicating that Home Minister P. Chidambaram, as the then finance minister, was also involved in fixing the 2G spectrum price.

Swamy is seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against Chidambaram alleging that the spectrum price was not decided by jailed former communications minister A. Raja alone but was jointly fixed by the two.

Sack Chidambaram, demands BJP

New Delhi, September 27: Sharpening its attack on the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sack Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his alleged involvement in the 2G scam.

‘We demand Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should immediately remove Home Minister P. Chidambaram from the cabinet without waiting for a probe into his role in the 2G scam,’ said BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman.

US warplanes kill 35 in Afghanistan

Kabul, September 27: The causalities come after the warplanes targeted a residential area in Ab Band district of the Ghazni Province on Tuesday, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The US military claims it has targeted Taliban militants, but villagers say civilians are also among the dead.

Similar operations in the past have left behind many civilian casualties.

Earlier, Afghan officials said nearly 20 civilians were killed in a recent operation by US-led foreign forces in the country’s east.

Blast kills 11 Afghan kids, 5 civilians

Kabul, September 27: At least 16 Afghan civilians, including 11 children, have been killed in a roadside bomb explosion in the western part of Afghanistan, a local official says.

Herat provincial government spokesman Mohayedin Noori said the blast took place at 1:00 p.m. (0830 GMT) on Tuesday when a passenger bus returning from a wedding party hit a roadside bomb in Shindand district.

Eleven children, four women and one man were among the dead, he added.

Herat police spokesman Noor Khan Neikzad also said Taliban militants are behind the attack.

Saudi’s first online ‘women’ daily

Riyadh, September 27: A Saudi newspaper said on Tuesday it was launching the Gulf Kingdom’s first online women’s daily covering female achievements in Saudi Arabia, latest developments and other topics related to women.

The Arabic language daily Al-Jazirah, one of the largest newspapers in the Gulf, said “Awjonline” would be launched during a women cosmetics exhibition opening in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

“It will be Saudi Arabia’s first online newspaper to be dedicated exclusively to women,” Al-Jazirah’s chairman Mutlaq bin Abdullah said.

UAE footballer Theyab dies in car accident

Abu Dhabi, September 27: The United Arab Emirates winger Theyab Awana, who became an internet sensation when he scored a back-heeled penalty in the summer, has died following a car accident.

The country’s football federation confirmed that the 21-year-old, who also played for the UAE club Bani Yas, was killed while travelling back from training in Al Ain to Abu Dhabi.

“I feel the loss of one of my family,” the UAE’s football president Mohammed Khalfan al-Rumaithi said. “I felt bitter tragedy. May the almighty bless him and may he rest in eternal peace.”

Youth who did love marriage commits suicide

Hyderabad, September 27: A young man who married the girl of his choice hanged himself to death. The incident occurred at Jedimetla police station limits. According to sources 26 year old C H Rajesh who married a girl without parents’ knowledge committed suicide. He worked in a company and married to a girl working in the same company. Rajesh’s parents who live in West Godavari were not aware of the fact and the previous day they had told Rajesh that they were coming to the city.

The total land of the mosque is occupied by constructing a house and some shops on it. The mosque is quite beautiful and is in good condition but is eclipsed by the house, shops and community hall. Though located at main road the mosque couldn’t be seen from the road. The path leading to the mosque has been narrowed down. Muslims are not allowed to come near the mosque.

Walter Forrest, criminologist, Monash University and associate professor Carter Hay from Florida State University found that young marijuana users who went on to marry were less likely to have continued using the drug than those who remained single.

The research also uncovered a key reason for the change that was, those who married also experienced significant improvements in self-control.
