Baby girl abandoned in Ajman mosque

Ajman, September 28: A baby girl was found abandoned at a mosque in Al Manama area in Ajman, reported ‘Al Itihad’ newspaper.

The infant was placed in a bassinet along with some essentials required for the baby. People inside the mosque were alerted during Fajr prayer last week when they heard cries of the baby.

Police handed over the baby to the Department of Child care, Khalifa Hospital.

Ajman Police is investigating records at all hospitals to check details of recent births.

38 frozen cats in man’s freezer

Auckland, September 28: A NEW Zealand man found with almost 60 cats in his house was facing animal cruelty charges after another 38 were found dead in his freezer.

Auckland’s Donald Cruickshank, 77, allegedly stored the cat bodies wrapped in bloody newspaper and fabric bags next to food in two fridges and freezers. Police found them when they visited his home in December.

Animal welfare group SPCA claimed its inspectors also found 19 cats running around his house, 17 cats locked in cages in unhygienic conditions and 23 cats in a fly-infested downstairs unit.

Woman found dead

Hyderabad, September 28: An unidentified woman was found dead in the Katedhan area on the Old Kurnool road in the limits of Shivarampally police station on Tuesday.

Police suspect that the woman might have died about two-three days ago. She was aged about 35-40 years and was clad in a light-green colour petti coat and blue-colour blouse. The body has been preserved at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for autopsy and identification. Police say that the cause of death would be known only after the receipt of post-mortem report.

Doctor kills wife, dumps body in Ganga

New Delhi, September 28: A 31-year-old surgeon who strangled his wife here and dumped the body in Allahabad citing incompatibility has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

Chandra Vibhash, who worked at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital here,
packed wife Supriya’s body in a bag and drove about 630 km to Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh to throw it into the Ganges.

He missed the mark and the bag landed on a bridge, Additional Commissioner of Police V. Renganathan said.

Vibhash told police that he killed Supriya as they were not on the same “mental and physical” wave length.

Two Shanghai subway trains collide, 260 hurt

Beijing, September 28: Over 260 passengers were injured, many seriously, after two high-speed metro trains today collided in Shanghai due to signal failure, which was also blamed for the deadly bullet train crash in China two months ago that claimed 40 lives.

The accident occurred when a metro train smashed into the rear of another one after the signal system went haywire, sending the busy suburban network in China’s largest metropolis and commercial hub into a spin, state-run CCTV reported.

7 years jail for cow slaughter in Gujarat?

Ahmedabad, September 28: A bill, seeking seven-year jail term for cow slaughter or even transporting the animal for that purpose, was passed unopposed in Gujarat Assembly on Tuesday, with opposition Congress extending support to it.

As per the provisions of Gujarat Animal Preservation Act (GAPA) 1954, which prohibits cow slaughter, there is no provision to prevent transportation of the animal for slaughter.

Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Bill 2011- was tabled in the Assembly by Agriculture Minister Dileep Sanghani.

Modi, Shah wanted to destroy Pandya murder evidence: Bhatt

Ahmedabad, September 28: Suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt on Tuesday told the Gujarat high court that Chief Minister Narendra Modi and former Minister of State for Home Amit Shah had tried to pressurise him to destroy crucial evidence in the Haren Pandya murder case.

The allegations were made by Bhatt in an additional affidavit filed by him on Tuesday before Justice R H Shukla who was hearing an alleged police atrocity case against the IPS officer in Jamnagar district.

Gujarat minister headed ‘crime syndicate’: Apex Court

New Delhi, September 28: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday told the Supreme Court that former Gujarat minister Amit Shah was the “commander of crime syndicate with some officials of state police as its foot soldiers” who would eliminate crucial witnesses in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout.

The apex court bench of Justice Aftab Alam and Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai was told that at every stage of the investigation, either the witness was made to retract his statement or was eliminated.

Paternity case: Contempt notice to ND Tiwari

New Delhi, September 28: Veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari was on Tuesday asked by the Delhi High Court to explain why it should not launch contempt of court proceeding against him for his “deliberate disobedience” of its order to give his blood sample for DNA test to determine a youth’s paternity.

“Why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against defendant (Tiwari) for his deliberate, wilful disobedience of the court’s order”, Justice Gita Mittal said issuing the contempt notice to Tiwari.

5 killed in building collapse near Jama Masjid

New Delhi, September 28: At least five persons were killed and 25 injured Tuesday night when a 70-year old three- storeyed building collapsed near Old Delhi’s Jama Masjid, prompting Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to initiate an inquiry into the incident and on dilapidated structures in the area.

The building collapse, which was reported from Chandni Mahal area at around 8 pm, came as a stark reminder to last November’s building collapse in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar which claimed over 70 lives.

Cash-for-votes scam: Kulkarni too heads to jail

New Delhi, September 28: Senior BJP leader LK Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni was arrested on Tuesday and sent to Tihar jail by a Delhi court for his alleged role in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam.

Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal ordered that Kulkarni be taken into judicial custody while rejecting his plea for interim bail on grounds of being a “whistle blower” in the case.

Old City monuments to get facelift

Hyderabad, September 28: The Union ministry of tourism has now sanctioned an amount of Rs 8 crore to uplift and restore historic monuments in and around the iconic Charminar. This was announced by the state tourism department on the occasion of world tourism day, observed on Tuesday.
