Ranbir brings in birthday with friends and exes

Mumbai, September 28: It was a smashing party from the word go. Ranbir Kapoor who turned 29 today brought in his birthday with friends and family at his residence on Tuesday night. And some of B-town’s biggest stars turned up to wish RK on his special day.

Sanjay Dutt, Karan Johar and Ayan Mukherjee were the first ones to be spotted at the party. Ranbir’s ‘Rockstar’ co-star and alleged ex girlfriend Nargis Fakhri was welcomed with a warm hug by Ranbir’s mom Neetu Singh. The rest of ‘Rockstar’ crew including filmmaker Imtiaz Ali soon joined in the party.

Saudi women languish in prison

Riyadh, September 28: Suffering from stress and guilt, Saudi women choose to stay in prison instead of going back to their homes. In some cases families of prisoners refuse to receive them, prison authorities said.

Khadija Gharibi, women’s prison director in Taif, told that the day of the release of a women prisoner is a difficult day for the authorities.

“I often face a tough time when a female prisoner completes her term. Most families refuse to receive them, and demand to keep them in prison, or send them to any other society or centre to care for them.”

Shahid Kapoor abuses Taran Adarsh in twitter war

Mumbai, September 28: Shahid Kapoor in a war of words with trade analyst Taran Adarsh abused him over the latter’s twitter comments on the collections of Shahid-Sonam latest release Mausam.

Commenting on the collections that Mausam recorded at the box office, Adarsh had tweeted, “Fetched approx Rs 21 cr/Rs 22 crore net in its opening weekend. Biz slid downwards on Saturday, but showed escalation on Sunday… numbers are below the mark”.

Hyderabad, September 28: Mr. B. Satyanarayana, Minister for Transport and A.P. Congress president would proceed to Delhi as he has been commissioned by Congress High Command.

He deplored the incidents occurred at RTA office and told the agitators to have patience and cooperate in resolving the problem of Telangana. In view of the inconvenience caused to people, he advised the Telangana agitators to withdraw strike. Uproar in Kashmir assembly over Afzal Guru resolution

Srinagar, September 28: Pandemonium broke out in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly Wednesday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress legislators protested the tabling of a clemency resolution for 2001 parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

They resorted to slogan-shouting, saying “anti-national resolution ‘ko wapas karo, wapas karo’ (Take back the anti-national resolution)”. They even smashed tables and mikes.

Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone adjourned the assembly twice, first for half an hour and then for one hour.

PM, Sonia expected to meet today

New Delhi, September 28: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi are expected to meet today (Sept 28) in the backdrop of the controversy over a Finance Ministry note on the 2G spectrum issue which has led the Opposition to demand the resignation of Home Minister P Chidambaram.

While no meeting has been fixed so far between the two leaders, sources said that there is a possibility that they may meet.

This will be the first meeting between Singh and Gandhi after the Finance Ministry note controversy broke out.

WW II shipwreck found, with £155m treasure on board

London, September 28: A shipwreck holding silver worth £150million has been discovered in the Atlantic — the largest amount of precious metal ever found at sea. About 200 tons of the bullion sank off Ireland with British cargo steamer the SS Gairsoppa when it was hit by a German torpedo in 1941.

But it has now been found by US treasure hunters hired by UK Department for Transport.They will now attempt to salvage the silver and will have to hand 20% of its value to the British Treasury.

Woman gangraped in moving auto

Mumbai, September 28: A 22-year-old woman was abducted by three Chunabhatti residents and raped in a moving auto rickshaw for two hours last Sunday evening.

The woman, Anita (name changed), was abducted near Rashtriya Chemical and Fertilizers (RCF) company in Chembur and dumped at a spot four km away in Chunabhatti later in the night, where policemen from a beat chowkie found her.

She was rushed to Sion hospital, where she is currently admitted in a ward.

Sex pest IPS is fined Rs 50,000

Mumbai, September 28: In a landmark order the State Human Rights Commission has asked a senior IPS officer to pay a Rs 50,000 fine to his junior female colleague for sexual harassment.

The case which had created a stir in Mumbai police circles when it was first reported in 2002, involves IPS officer Jawahar Singh, at present under suspension for another matter, and Assistant Police Inspector Neelam Bhagat who is now with the state CID (Criminal Investigations Department) in Kolhapur.

High drama at RTA office in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, September 28: Come Friday, Hyderabad will face another shutdown the 13th this year and perhaps, more than any other city in the country. This figure doesn’t include the innumerable strikes like the ongoing RTC and small and medium-scale industries’ stir, which gives a measure of the crisis gripping the State capital.

Telangana protesters torch buses, railway counter

Hyderabad, September 28: The ongoing movement for a separate Telangana state appears to be taking a violent turn with suspected protesters allegedly setting afire two private buses and the booking counter of a railway station in separate incidents in Andhra Pradesh, police said.

One Volvo bus was completely destroyed after it was torched by unidentified people around 1.00 am on Wednesday near Jamia Osmania railway station here, they said.

The vehicle belonging to a private operator used to carry employees of a software company, the bus driver said.

Bank manager arrested for misappropriating bank funds

Hyderabad, September 28: An Andhra Bank sub-manager was arrested on Tuesday for misappropriating bank funds to the tune of Rs 67.71 lakh.

According to an official release issued here, A Satyanarayana, a sub-manager at Andhra Bank’s Sundernagar branch in Erragadda, cancelled three fixed deposits belonging to Indian Pharmaceutical Association and AP Trust before the fixed deposits matured. Later, he transferred the amount to his personal account.

Pak for resolving all issues with India: Khar

United Nations, September 28: Pakistan is willing to resolve all outstanding issues, including Kashmir with India, with which it is engaged in a “substantive dialouge” process that it hopes should be “uninterrupted”, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said.

Khar was addressing the 193-member UN body on behalf of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani who could not attend the 66th session due to floods in Pakistan.

Washington, September 28: Public disclosure of graphic photos and video taken of Osama bin Laden after he was killed in May by U.S. commandos would damage national security and lead to attacks on American property and personnel, the Obama administration contends in a court documents.

In a response late Monday to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group seeking the imagery, Justice Department attorneys said the CIA has located 52 photographs and video recordings.

Washington, September 28: The Obama Administration on Tuesday asserted that its ties with India and Pakistan is not a zero sum game, dismissing contentions of Pakistani leadership that there is an anti-US sentiment prevailing in their country as they see Washington tilting towards New Delhi.

“First of all, with regard to the concern expressed in (Pakistan) with regard to US-India relations, the US does not consider this a zero-sum game, US-India or US-Pakistan,” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters.

More Emiratis married to foreigners seek divorce

Dubai, September 28: An increasing number of Emiratis married to foreigners are seeking to end their marriages.

According to the Statistics Centre of Dubai, 26.3 per cent of divorce cases reported in the first half of this year involved a foreign partner compared to 23.3 per cent cases where both parties were nationals.

Of the 2,031 marriages registered about 54.7 per cent weddings were between an Emirati man and a foreign bride.

Saudi Arabia: 10 Lashes for Driving

Riyadh, September 28: Two days after King Abdullah granted women the right to vote and run for public office, starting in 2015, a court on Tuesday sentenced a woman to 10 lashes for violating religious rules prohibiting women in the kingdom from driving, activists and local news media said.

The woman, Shaimaa Ghassaneya, was found guilty of driving in Jidda in July. Her sentence was unusually severe for the crime, which typically results in several days of detention. Activists said she planned to appeal.
