Hold referendum on T: Kishen Reddy to President

Hyderabad, August 08: Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president G Kishen Reddy on Sunday appealed to President Pratibha Patil to direct the United Progressive Alliance Government to conduct a people’s poll (referendum) on the Telangana issue in the region.

Talking to media persons at party office at Nampally, Mr Kishen Reddy appealed to President Prathibha Patil to take the initiative on holding a referendum on the issue of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh as the various political parties have failed to come up with a unanimous stand.

Man declared dead by Kamineni doctors, vomits, dies again

Hyderabad, August 08: Angry relatives staged a dharna in front of the Kamineni Hospital at LB Nagar on Sunday after the doctors there declared a living man dead and even issued a ‘death certificate.’

The man died ‘again’ soon, leaving his relatives in a tizzy with extreme emotions of anguish, then happiness and then more anguish.

The man, identified as Hari, was declared dead by the doctors at the hospital after he was rushed there following a fall from an electricity pole at Bonala.

Design competition for HMR’s Putlibowli complex

Hyderabad, August 08: The Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMR) on Sunday invited design competition from practicing architects for it’s Rs 7 crore commercial complex to be built at Putlibowli for rehabilitating the traders and hawkers affected by road widening in Badichowdi-Sultan Bazar areas.

Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy, in a statement, said that main intention of the design competition is to encourage design innovation with a view to reflecting the character and features of the nearby Sultan Bazar area and providing special facilities for hawkers in the new complex.

Man sets self on fire in mosque

Toulouse, August 08: A Muslim man died on Sunday after setting himself on fire inside a mosque in the French city of Toulouse, local officials said, saying the man was psychologically disturbed.

The man, in his fifties, suffered burns over 90 percent of his body and died in hospital, the local prefect’s office said.

He had doused himself in petrol and set himself on fire inside the mosque after earlier yelling at the local imam, officials said.

‘Raping’ minor inside train

Mumbai, August 08: A 21-year-old man from Mumbai Central has been arrested for raping a minor inside a train coach. On July 28, Sonu Gautam saw a 16-year-old girl outside Mumbai Central Railway Station. He spoke to her, and found that she had run away from her house in Patna. He promised her job, and took her around the city, the complaint said.

Postpone SI exam, says TSJAC

Hyderabad, August 08: The Telangana Students Joint Action Committee has demanded the state government to postpone the SI examination scheduled to be held on August 13 and 14 and take up the issue with the Centre for deletion of Clause 14 (f) from the Presidential Order.

Ekta Kapoor detained at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, August 08: TV and film producer Ekta Kapoor was detained at the Mumbai airport for suspected duty evasion on late Sunday night. She was intercepted at the airport and booked for ‘’misdeclaration’’ of branded clothes and accessories worth reportedly worth a lakh.

She was diverted from Green Channel at about 10.45 pm having landed from Bangkok and was a let off late in the night, after a case was booked. Mumbai, August 08:Agony of nine Muslim youths, arrested in the 2006 Malegaon blast that killed 38 people, is likely to end soon as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has decided not to oppose their bail plea when the case comes up for hearing next week in a special MCOCA court of Mumbai.

The Mumbai ATS had charged 13 Muslim youth in December 2006 of which nine – Mohammed Ali, Asif Khan, Javed Sheikh, Salman Farsi, Shabbir Ahmed, Noorulhuda Doha, Rais Ahmed, Dr. Faroogue Ansari and Abrar Ahmed – are in jail and four are absconding.

Most victims of Afghanistan copper crash were US Navy SEALs

London, August 08:A majority of the US soldiers who perished in the shooting down of an American chopper in Afghanistan were part of the elite forces that killed Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, a media report said.

Thirty-eight people, including 30 US special forces troops and seven Afghan soldiers, were killed when their Chinook helicopter was brought down Saturday by Afghan insurgents in Wardak province.

Seven members of the Afghan National Army, one dog handler, an interpreter and an unknown number of crew were also on board the downed helicopter.

Students warn of another ‘Million March’

Hyderabad: The Telangana Students Joint Action Committee on Sunday warned the state government that the state may witness another `Million March’ if it goes ahead with conduction recruitment examinations for Sub-Inspector’s posts in the police department without getting the controversial Clause 14 F deleted from the Presidential Orders of 1975.

The students JAC leaders told media persons that the state government can only go ahead with holding the recruitment examinations for the Sub-Inspectors only after the Centre deletes the controversial Clause.

M Tech student commits suicide for Telangana

Hyderabad: Apparently dismayed over the statement of Union Home Minister P Chidmabaram on Telangana in the Lok Sabha, an M Tech student hanged himself to death at his residence in Mandamarri town.

According to police, the incident took place late on Saturday, but came to light on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as R Srikanth, who was pursuing M Tech (Mechatronics) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H).

TTDF meet to decide Telangana course

Hyderabad, August 7: The Telangana Telugu Desam Forum will meet here at 11 am on Sunday to chalk out its future course of action.

M.Tech student ends life ‘for Telangana’

Hyderabad August 7: An M.Tech student reportedly hanged himself to death at his residence in Mandamarri town on Saturday for the cause of separate Telangana.

The deceased, R Srikanth, who was pursuing M.Tech (Mechatronics) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H), took the drastic step upset over P Chidambaran’s statement on Telangana in the Parliament on Friday. In the suicide note, purportedly written by him, he urged the government to provide free education to all students in the region.

New technology to complete RoB works in 3 months

High-class prostitution racket busted

Hyderabad, August 7: Cyberabad police on Saturday busted a prostitution racket operating from star hotels and houses in posh localities. Two pimps along with their associates, six customers and three women, including one belonging to Uzbekistan were arrested.
