3 Lakh compensation for Makkah Masjid bomb blast victims recommended

Hyderabad, August 08: Mr. Wajahat Habeebullah, Chairman, National Minorities Commission, New Delhi wrote a letter to Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of A.P. to take action on the recommendations of the commission pertaining to Makkah Masjid bomb blast victims which are as follows:

1. Legal action should be taken against the police officers who imprisoned the innocent youths.

2. Victims should be rehabilitated by providing employment commensurate with their qualifications.

3. Rs. 3 lakh should be paid to each victim as compensation.

Anti-child labour drive in Secunderabad

Hyderabad, August 8: The Labour department set to crack the whip on outlets which hire child labourers below the age of 15 years. The department will initiate a special drive with assistance from the NGOs MV Foundation and Divya Disha on Monday at 11 a.m from Chermas, MG Road in Secunderabad. The drive is part of the plan to make Secunderabad into a Child Labour Free Zone.

Fake pharmacists to face action

Hyderabad August 8: The AP Pharma Council (APPC) is all set to crack a whip on unregistered pharmacists in the state.
The APPC has issued notices against registered pharmacists who gave their certificates ‘on hire’ to others in return of their monthly payment, said Annapareddy Vijayabhaskar Reddy, president of the council, here on Sunday.
“The registration of pharmacists with fake or borrowed certificates will soon be cancelled,” Reddy added.

Telangana employees gear up for indefinite strike

Hyderabad, August 08: Government employees in Telangana region are set to protest from Monday in the run up to the indefinite strike from Aug 17, even as the government decided to invoke Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in all key departments.

A showdown appears inevitable with the employees’ unions deciding to boycott talks till the government withdraws orders under ESMA and calls back police forces deployed at the offices and the government giving no hint of accepting their pre-conditions.

British Royal Air Force University Dean convert to Islam

The head of studies at the Royal Air Force pilot training college is a convert to Islam who has criticised Nato air strikes on Libya in a Muslim magazine.

Dr Joel Hayward is dean of the college at Cranwell, the RAF’s equivalent of Sandhurst, and has taught many of the pilots spearheading the military operation against Colonel Gaddafi.

But, to the dismay of defence chiefs, he has cast doubt on the widely held belief that the Nato actions averted the mass killing of civilians in Benghazi. He also warned against the RAF becoming ‘the air corps of a rebel army’.

Hamas, Fatah end unity talks positively

Cairo, August 08: Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas have ended their reconciliation talks they described as “positive,” with an agreement to free political prisoners of both sides.

The two parties, which were holding negotiations in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, agreed Sunday to meet again early next month and work towards releasing the political prisoners of both movements in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, AFP reported.

Yemen opposition: No talks with Saleh

Sanaa, August 08: Yemeni opposition parties have denied holding talks with the ruling party of Ali Abdullah Saleh, as the country continues to be the scene of growing violence.

UN envoy Jamal bin Omar had earlier given the opposition parties a week-long deadline to resolve the country’s ongoing deadlock, a Media correspondent reported.

The opposition said on Saturday that a dialogue would only take place once Saleh has handed over power.

‘US, KSA to return Saleh to Yemen’

Sanaa, August 08: A prominent political analyst says he believes Ali Abdullah Saleh will eventually return to Yemen with the help of his two major allies, the United States and Saudi Arabia.

“Right now the main powers with influence in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the United States are making this happen in order to have regime stability. Saleh’s return will send a message to the revolutionaries that they have no options but to surrender,” said Ali al-Ahmed, director of the Institute for [Persian] Gulf Affairs (IGA), in an exclusive interview with Press TV on Sunday.

Now test HIV in 15 minutes

London, August 08: Scientists have developed a portable blood test device which they say diagnoses an infection within minutes and can be an effective weapon in the fight against HIV and AIDS in the developing world.

Developed by scientists at the University of Columbia in New York, the mChip, which costs only $1 and looks like a credit card, has proved almost 100 per cent accurate in testing HIV in Rwanda.

Hundreds of tests using a prototype were carried out in the town of Kigali and returned a 95 per cent accuracy for HIV and 76 per cent for syphilis, the Daily Mail reported.

Delhi man’s beheaded body found in Haryana

New Delhi, August 08: The beheaded body of a 26-year-old man, missing from his home here for more than a week, has been found in Haryana’s Rewari district, police said Sunday.

Srikant Singh, an insurance advisor for a healthcare company, was missing since July 29 after he left his home at Moti Bagh in South Delhi, police said.

Srikant’s father Seespal Singh complainedf to the police that his son left in his I-10 car, saying that he will return in half an hour, but never returned.

200-year-old Ka’aba Kiswah goes on display in UAE

Abu Dhabi, August 08: The Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has brought a 200-year-old Kiswah, the shroud that covers the Ka’aba in Mecca, to the country to mark the holy month of Ramadan this year, it was announced Sunday.

The Kiswah, one of the most sacred Islamic artefacts, is open to public viewing at the dome in the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi this month.
