Good because the meeting could speed up the process of bringing to an end the conflict in Mindanao, which has stunted the growth of the region, killed tens of thousands of combatants and non-combatants and caused a lot of misery to the people.

Domestic petrol prices can fall if global rates

New Delhi, August 09:The government today held out the possibility of a cut in domestic prices of petrol if international prices come down sharply and in a stable way.

Asked if the petrol prices will come down because international prices have gone down, Oil Minister S Jaipal Reddy told reporters here that “if the prices globally come down sharply and in a stable way, naturally the prices of petrol would be adjusted downwards”.

Hyderabad, August 08: Markazi Mashaiq and Ulema Forum president Moulana SS Asrar Hussain Razvi Al Madani, along with a delegation of Muslim leaders on Monday called on N Kiran Kumar Reddy and appealed to the Chief Minister to use his good offices to forward their sentiments to all concerned and see that all agitation programmes during the Holy month of Ramzan be postponed. The Chief Minister sympathetically responded to their request and assured that to do whatever he can in this regard.

New Delhi, August 08: G Electronics India, a home appliances company, successfully orgainsed the third round of Mallika-e-Kitchen Cooking Contest 2011 at Hotel Chillies in the city. Around 100 contestants from Hyderabad participated in the third round of the contest. The participants brought their microwave cooked dishes along with the recipes which were scrutinised, on predefined parameters, by the panel of judges. B Sreedevi and S Latha were the winners from Hyderabad have qualified for the next stage, which will take place later this month.

“Speaker Missing” case in Saifabad PS

Hyderabad, August 08: The suspended senior TDP leader and former minister, Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, on Monday lodged a complaint with the Saifabad police that the Assembly Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, was missing for some time and his whereabouts are not known.

On receipt of information that Mr Nadendla Manohar had returned home from abroad, Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, accompanied by his party colleague, Mr Harishwar Reddy, came to the Assembly building this morning and squatted at the Gate No. 2 demanding that their resignations to the House be accepted forthwith.

Married woman raped by Police

Moga, August 08: A police head constable and his two nephews were today charged with committing rape with a married woman at Nihalsinghwala in the district.

Head constable Jaswinder Singh and his nephews Gona Singh and Lakhvir Singh were booked by the police for allegedly raping the woman, police said here.

The accused were booked on rape charges on the statement of the victim, who is hospitalised here.The victim was allegedly kidnapped by Gona Singh about a year back following which a kidnapping case was registered against the accused.

Let them do what they want

New Delhi, August 08: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday responded to opposition demands for her resignation following the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on the Commonwealth Games with a terse, “Let them do what they want to”.

Both houses of parliament were adjourned Monday over the CAG report that indicted Dikshit, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) chief Suresh Kalmadi.

“Whatever happened in parliament… let it happen,” Dikshit told reporters here as the controversy gathered.

Indian economy fundamentally strong

Man hit by electric wires, dies

Hyderabad, August 8: Hit by electric wires a 28 year old man died under Uppal police station limits. A man named Harichari a resident of Chilkanagar Uppal was busy in decoration in the wake of Bonal festival.

Chari who was a driver by occupation was busy repairing electric wires used for decorative lighting when he was hit by the electric wire and suffered serious injury. He was rushed to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Police Uppal has registered a case and investigations are underway.

Debt burden claims two lives

Hyderabad, August 8: Distressed over debt burden, two persons hanged themselves to death, while one among them is said to have been scared of the alleged threatening by the lender. The incidents occurred under Bowenpally and Kachiguda police station limits. 47 year old Ramesh Kumar who did chit fund business hanged himself to death as he couldn’t collect money. He was distressed over debt burden.

13 CCTVs in Mecca Masjid do not work

Hyderabad, August 08: Even as devotees gather in large numbers at the Mecca Masjid, it has come to light that 13 of the 23 closed-circuit television cameras installed in the masjid are not working and the remaining 10 are not fully functional.

Following this, Hyderabad police commissioner A K Khan has written to the state government seeking the immediate release of funds to repair them.

Gold futures surge to record Rs 25,978 on global cues

New Delhi, August 08: Gold surged to record high by adding Rs 536 to Rs 25,978 per 10 grams in futures trading Monday on buying by speculators, driven by a strong overseas trend, where investors sought safe haven following downgrading of the US credit rating.

The rising of gold to an all-time high of over USD 1,700 an ounce in the Asian region as equity markets tumbled worldwide, encouraging investors to park their funds in bullion, traders said.

Mumbai, August 08: Instead of dealing with potholes, which have become a major problem for commuters, the ruling party members of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) seem to be busy in another issue.

Local corporators of Shiv Sena and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) along with many right-wing Hindu organisations have opposed an in-situ rehabilitation of a mosque and madrasa near the under-construction rail over-bridge over the Milan Subway.

Infant’s body found in Borabanda

Hyderabad, August 8 (Siasat News): Police has recovered the dead body of a female infant who is said to be of four months.

The people of the locality were taken aback after spotting the dead body near a drainage canal situated at site three.

According to police Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, police recovered the dead body on the information given by a lady Sharmila Jadhav and shifted it to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for identification. Police S R Nagar is investigating.

Sachin will hit ton in England: Akram

Karachi, August 08: Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram feels the fourth Test at The Oval will provide Sachin Tendulkar with an ideal opportunity to reach the milestone of scoring 100 international centuries, in the ongoing four-match series against England.

The Oval is the venue for the fourth and final Test.

Akram is, however, not certain if the champion batsman would be able to get to the landmark in the third Test at Edgbaston, where the ball swings around, and the pressure would be on India to come back into the series.
