Riyadh, August 15: Saudi Arabia’s civil servants will be given a 10-day holiday to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and the start of Eid Al Fitr, newspapers in the Gulf Kingdom reported on Monday.

The holiday will begin on Ramadan 25 and will benefit all employees at government and semi official establishments across the country.

The ministry of civil service has already set the holiday for the public sector but no announcement has yet been made for the private sector, the papers said.

Ramadan, which began on August 1, is expected to end on August 29 or 30.

Dubai, August 15: An Emirati woman on trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance, first confessed to working as a prostitue but later denied the accusations when the presiding judge asked her to confirm whether she pleaded innocent or guilty.

During Prosecution questioning, 25-year-old AT had admitted to posting naked picture of herself on the internet and charging clients between Dh1,500 and Dh3,000, ‘Gulf News’ reported.

On receiving an alert that an Arab woman who could converse in Arabic and English was working as a prostitute, Dubai Police set up a sting operation to trap her.

Hyderabad, August 15: A VIRTUAL who’s- who of Andhra Pradesh glitterati have lost some of their shine after being named in a scam involving money laundering, flight of capital and tax evasion involving the India subsidiary of a Dubai real estate major.

These prominent personalities — leaders in the fields of cinema, politics, sports, bureaucracy and industry — bought villas and plots in the Emaar Boulder Hills residential township project, allegedly at hefty concessions, and caused a ` 4,310- crore loss to the state exchequer.

A woman in Kuwait was granted the right to divorce her husband after medical reports proved he was impotent.

Hyderabad, August 15: Cyberabad police raided a late night party at Durgam cheruvu in Madhapur on Saturday night and arrested its organisers and staff for serving liquor and playing music till late in the night causing nuisance to the nearby residents. More than 100 revellers were enjoying themselves in the event when the raid took place.

Hyderabad, August 15: India became independent on 15th August 1947 and on 15th August 2001 the first Urdu Channel of ETV was launched from Hyderabad. Many channels were telecasting Hindi and English programmes but there was no channel of Urdu programmes.

Hyderabad, August 15: Kasturba Gandhi Ashram provides shelter to destitute girls. A 14 year old girl Ms. Sana Fatima was found near Shamshabad Bus Depot on 5th April 2011. She is not keeping good health. She gets fits quite often. Parents of this girl have abandoned her. Her parents’ names are Mr. Yousuf Khan and Ghousia. Her maternal gradhfather’s name is Qasim and her brother’s name is Feroze. Her sister’s name is Samreen. Mr. Sreenivas, the manager of the Ashram tried to contact her parents but could not find them. There are many charitable institutions working in the city.

He started his service as a Sub-Inspector from Yalandu in Khammam Dist. He worked in Chaderghat, Afzal Gunj, C.C.S. and other police stations as sub-inspector. As inspector of police he worked at Madanapet, Asifnagar, Gopalpuram, Charminar & Task Force.

On getting promotion as Asst. Commissioner of Police, he has been working at Santoshnagar.

Chandigarh, August 15: A ‘baba’ was arrested for allegedly raping a local singer, police said here today.

“‘Baba’ Rajesh Kumar alias Rana was arrested yesterday after a local singer lodged a complaint with Kapurthala police that he raped her under the pretext of marrying her,” City SHO Amrik Singh Chahal said.

He was produced before a Judicial magistrate today who remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.

Hyderabad, August 15: Facing the heat over the probe into his alleged illegal wealth, Jaganmohan Reddy hit out at the Congress and said that his father’s legacy is being tarnished and that the Centre has unleashed a witch hunt against him.

Speaking to a news channel on Monday, Jagan – dubbed as India’s richest MP- said that he is helpless, alone and young and is being targeted for resigning from the party. “I was shown I-T notices after the death of my father,” rued Jagan.

Mumbai, August 15: DJ Jenny D, a Goa-born Mumbai based actress and DJ has posed nude for a NGO campaign supporting reservation for women on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence Day. 

The Mumbai- based NGO Citizen Action Forum has launched an awareness campaign on India’s Independence Day titled ‘Are Women in India really Independent?’

Bollywood and fashion photographer Vickky Idnaani shot a special poster and print shoot for the campaign.

London, August 15: It’s a research which is likely to stir up an ugly debate in many families — beautiful people are selfish by nature.

A team of researchers from Barcelona University and the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in Spain have found that people with symmetrical faces are more self-sufficient and they are also less likely to co-operate.

According to the study, people blessed with more symmetrical facial features, which are considered more pretty, are less likely to co-operate and more likely to selfishly focus on their own interests.

New Delhi, August 15: As India marches into its 65th year of independence, the people who fought tooth and nail for the freedom most of us take for granted feel this is not the nation of their dreams and are troubled by the all-pervading culture of corruption.

Captain S.S. Yadav, a 93-year-old freedom fighter who served in the Indian National Army (INA) of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, feels that the country has progressed a lot in the last six decades, but corruption too has increased exponentially.

Kathmandu, August 15: Hundreds of gay, lesbian,transgender today took to the streets with supporters in a southern Nepal town, demanding equal rights under a new constitution the country is in the process of writing.

More than 500 gays and lesbians danced in tune with music, chanted slogans and marched around Narayanghat, a town about 160 kilometers south of the capital city Kathmandu,coinciding with Nepalese cow festival, popularly known as Gaijatra.

Ramallah, August 15: Palestinians will ask the UN Security Council to support their bid for statehood, a senior official said Sunday — a move that would set the stage for a showdown with the US.

Legislator Hanan Ashrawi is the first Palestinian official to spell out that the Palestinians plan to ask the Security Council to endorse admitting Palestine as a full-fledged state, despite an expected US veto.

New Delhi, August 15: The income-tax department is likely to levy a penalty of Rs 30,000 crore on alleged money launderer and tax-evader Hasan Ali Khan, who was released on bail by the Bombay High Court last week, I-T sources said. Khan, a Pune-based stud-farm owner, had been in custody of the Enforcement Directorate. The agency has been probing charges that Khan had stashed away $8 billion into Swiss bank accounts. The I-T department has been waiting for Khan’s release from the ED’s custody to summon him for hearing.

Sai Keerthi, a second year B.Sc student at the Sreenidhi Degree and PG College, committed suicide at her cousin’s house in Maruthinagar because she was upset that her father did not care for her.

Sanaa, August 15: The blast, caused by a suspected al-Qaeda car bomb, took place late on Sunday when anti-regime Houthi leaders were having a meeting in a complex at Matamma, a district in Yemen’s northeastern Al-Jouf Province, Xinhua reported.

“At least 14 Shia Houthi rebels were killed and about five others were severely injured when a suspected al-Qaeda car bomb hit the main gate of the Shia-seized government compound in Matamma district in the northeast province of Al-Jouf,” a Yemeni Interior Ministry official claimed on condition of anonymity.

New Delhi, August 15: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday said that corruption was a deep concern for all and needs simultaneous action on many fronts.

‘In the last few months many instances of corruption have come to light. In some cases, functionaries of the central government face allegations of corruption. In other cases, it is the functionaries of various state governments,’ Manmohan Singh said from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

New Delhi, August 15: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said the government wants a “strong Lokpal” and those who don’t agree with some aspects of a proposed legislation “should not resort to hunger strikes”.

“We want a strong Lokpal to prevent corruption in high places. We have recently introduced a bill in Parliament to achieve this,” said Singh in his address to the nation on 65th Independence Day.

“Now only Parliament can decide what type of Lokpal legislation should be enacted,” he said from the ramparts of Red Fort.

New Delhi, August 15: In yet another success in its anti-piracy operations, the Indian Navy successfully captured a hijacked ship, MV Nafis-1, off the Mumbai coast on Monday.

As per reports, the Indian Navy had kept the Iranian flagged Nafis under surveillance since August 12. During checking, two AK-47 rifles and one pistol was recovered from the ship.

Nafis is said to have been missing for more than five months with Sharjah being its last known port of call, from where it sailed to an undisclosed location.
