Woman carrying 89 cigarette cartons held in Pakistan

Islamabad, August 24: A British Pakistani woman, who is a black belt in karate, was detained at Rawalpindi airport after she had a brawl with security staff who did not allow her to check-in 89 cigarette cartons.

Zakia Bibi, travelling to Manchester, became angry when she was told she could not take the cigarette cartons out of the country.

She pounced on a security staff and then attacked two others, the Dawn quoted airport sources as saying.

The woman was arrested, but not before her `karate skills’ caused panic.

CCTV footage showed her slapping a female security staff.

Muslim orgs support anti-corruption movement

New Delhi, August 24: A broad-based consultation among Muslim organisations was held yesterday at the All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat (AIMMM) Central Office to discuss and formulate the Muslim community’s stand on the Lokpal issue. The meeting, chaired by AIMMM President Syed Shahabuddin, was attended by representatives of Jamaat-e Islami Hind, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees, All India Milli Council, Welfare Party of India, Muslim Political Council, Students Islamic Organisation and Lok Janshakti Party. A representative of the CPI(M) also took part as a special invitee.

Nato loses its ‘fuel’ to fight!

Kabul, August 24: As black clouds of smoke billowed from the charred remains of at least 19 Nato tankers and flames licked the dark sky near the Afghanistan border, agog locals observed the wreckage following an ambush.

Gunmen atop motorbikes on Monday opened fire on the narrow main highway at Kolpur village in Pakistan, 25km south of Quetta, the capital of the Baluchistan province.

Anna get Awadh Royal Family support: NO IDD

Lucknow, August 24: The Royal Family of Awadh has extended its support to Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement. And have decided not to celebrate Eid as a mark of their protest this year.

General secretary Royal Family of Awadh (RFA) Sikoh Azad on Tuesday said, “Nearly 20,000 RFA members will not celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr to express solidarity to Anna Hazare’s crusade against graft.” He added that members of the royal family would go to Delhi to take part in Hazare’s campaign. Regarding Jan Lokpal Bill, Azad said that Jan Lokpal Bill will help in bringing a change for the royal families.

Skeletons out of graves in Saudi

Riyadh, August 24: Skeletons surfacing on the ground in a remote Saudi cemetery as if they are forcing their way out of their graves are sending shivers across a tiny village in the Gulf Kingdom.

Although it is a macabre scene, the villagers do not appear to be superstitious as they believe the bones are dug out by stray animals and soil erosion.

“The villagers have expressed resentment at what is happening inside that graveyard…they have appealed for authorities to act but have received no response,” Sabq daily said in a report from the western town of Qunfuda.

First Hajj flight on September 29 from Kerala

Kozhikode, August 24: The first Indian Hajj flight of this year will fly from the Karippur International Airport in Malappuram on September 29. The Saudi Airlines flights will take pilgrims to Jeddah via Madeena.

More than 7000 pilgrims are going for the Hajj from Kerala this year under the Hajj Committee. Karippur is the embarkation point for pilgrims from Pondicherry, Mahe and Lakshadweep also, besides Kerala.

Awad Yafai gets bail

Hyderabad, August 24: Awad Yafai and his two brothers who were shot by Akberuddin’s Gunmen get bail after a long drawn legal battle of 100 days. Awad was shot in the stomach he had been admitted in Yashoda Hospital for 30 days.

The judge asked the cop that why they have not booked Md. Jaani gunman of MIM Malakpet MLA Balala.

Ibrahim Yafai who was killed by the gunman got two wounds one in the heart and another in the back which was shot by Md. Jani, the heart bullet injury still a mystery.

Rag picker attacks woman

Hyderabad, August 24 (Siasat News): In a bizarre incident, a rag picker attacked a woman with a knife at Income Tax department situated at Banjara Hills that sent shock waves in the department.

As per the details, 25-year-old youth used to shift the garbage. Today, he attacked the wife of senior account officer Parveen Kumar’s wife with a knife.

When she raised alarm, the youth got himself injured also. In the initial stages of the inquiry, it was revealed that the motto behind the attack was not money but honour.

Anna awaits written assurance from Govt on Lokpal

New Delhi, August 24: Anna Hazare is awaiting a written assurance from the government on the Lokpal Bill issue before ending his indefinite fast which entered the ninth day as his team said that developments unfolding today (Aug 24) will be “crucial”.

Government and Team Anna held discussions for the first time last night and both sides agreed on a variety of issues leading to hopes of Hazare ending the fast.
