India’s Haj seat quota raised by 10,000

New Delhi, August 26: Saudi Arabia has announced an additional quota of 10,000 Haj devotees for India.

“The entire lot of these 10,000 seats have been transferred to Haj Committee of India, Mumbai,” the External Affairs Ministry said on Thursday.

“The seats will be distributed to the states/Union Territories that have received applications in excess of the originally allotted quota on the basis of the proportionate Muslim population of the state/Union Territories concerned,” the ministry said.

Abid Rasool Khan demands employment to acquitted Muslim youth

Hyderabad, August 26: General Secretary Pradesh Congress Committee Mr. Abid Rasool Khan today met chief minister at secretariat for the second time. He demanded to provide employment to the acquitted Muslim youth besides giving them compensation. From a Chinese mouse to man in 160 mn years!

London, August 26: A Mouse-like creature that scurried about in bushes and trees 160 million years ago gave rise to humans, scientists say.

The small, furry placental mammal lived in what is now north east China during the Jurassic era when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

Its remarkably well preserved remains were dug up in the fossil- rich region of Liaoning Province which has also produced ancient evidence of feathered dinosaurs and primitive birds.

Pakistani troops violate ceasefire in Kashmir

Srinagar, August 26: Pakistani troops opened heavy gunfire on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, Army sources said on Friday.

The troops fired at the Indian posts in Krishnaghati area of Mendhar in Poonch district, about 240 km north of Jammu, late Thursday, the sources said.

According to them, the gunfire was intense. After waiting for a while, the Indian side retaliated. The exchange of fire lasted for almost an hour.

“It was a clear violation of the ceasefire,” an Army officer said.

Cement bags removed from Qutub Shahi Mosque in Golconda

Hyderabad, August 26: On publication of a news item in Siasat about dumping cement bags and other materials, the members of Deccan Wakf Properties Protection Society became alert and determined to rehabilitate the Qutub Shahi Mosque in Golconda Fort area. Man raped daughters for over 40 years

Vienna, August 26: Austrian authorities said yesterday that they are investigating allegations that a man locked up his two mentally disabled daughters in a small room in their home and sexually abused them for over four decades.

Police said that the 80-year-old repeatedly raped the women between 1970 and May 2011. The alleged victims are now 53 and 45 years old.

A police official did not name either the suspect or the alleged victims. He did not identify himself on the telephone.

Cash-for-votes scam: Amar Singh, 3 others summoned

New Delhi, August 26: A court here on Thursday summoned four people, including Rajya Sabha member and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, to appear on September 06, in the cash-for-votes scandal that rocked Parliament during a trust vote in 2008.

Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal issued the summons against Amar singh, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs Fagan Singh Kulaste and Mahavir Bhagora and Sudheendra Kulkarni, a former associate of BJP leader LK Advani.

Copy of Bible burnt over minor dispute

Hyderabad, August 26: Some unidentified persons today allegedly burnt a copy of Bible and an Altar at a church in Maredpally Picket area here today over some minor dispute with church authorities, police said.

Authorities of the Mother Mary Malankara (Catholic) Church who lodged a complaint with the Maredpally Police alleged that some miscreants broke open the locked doors of the church and burnt the Bible and the Altar inside the church, they said.

Israel kills 11 Palestinians in 24 hrs

Gaza, August 26: The death of a Palestinian during the latest round of Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip has raised to 11 the total number of the fatalities caused by Tel Aviv in the besieged enclave over the past 24 hours.

US mosque torcher arrested

Oregon, August 26: The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested a man charged with setting fire to a mosque in a city in the northwestern US state of Oregon.

Cody Crawford was apprehended on Wednesday for arson attack against the mosque in the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center in the central western Oregon city of Corvallis on November 28, 2010,

The 24-year-old faces one count of damaging religious property and one count of arson.

GHMC gets lions’ share in tax collections

Hyderabad, August 26: To give a facelift to the infrastructure and other facilities, the State Government is planning to take up another round of 100-day development programme for the areas under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Following the GHMC’s appeal for more funds, the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has also permitted the GHMC to seek a share of 10 per cent on Motor Vehicles Tax and 100 percent on property tax, which would enhance its funds by Rs 300 crore.

Hyderabad, August 26: The second phase of Eamcet counselling for admission into engineering colleges will be held from Sept 5 to Sept 8. The allotment of seats will be done on Sept 9th.

Ban to traffic around Charminar bazaars to ease Eid shopping

Hyderabad, August 26: With less than four days left for the Eid-ul-Fitr, many areas in the Old City have turned into shopping zones. The stretch from Madina circle to Charminar has already turned into a pedestrian zone with absolutely no space left for the any vehicle.

Hyderabad, August 26: Raising serious objection over Anti-Corruption Bureau Court giving clean chit to former chief minister Konejeti Rosaiah in connection with a land de-notification case at Ameerpet, lawyer Sri Ranga Rao on Thursday filed a petition seeking to open the case afresh.

Filing a petition in the ACB court, Sri Ranga Rao said the ACB court gave clean chit to Rosaiah without examining the vital documents submitted by him. Alleging that the ACB failed to conduct a proper investigation into the case, he submitted a petition for the re-opening of the case.
