Hyderabad, August 03: A Rice Farmers’ met was organized at Hyderabad on Tuesday by Directorate of Rice Research (DRR), a wing of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, to spur the innovative spirit of rice farmers.

Dr Swapan Kumar Datta Deputy Director General ICAR inaugurated the meet while V Sobhanandreswara Rao former state agriculture minister was the guest of honour, who appreciated the initiative by DRR and expressed the shock that in spite of development the cases of farmers’ suicides are on increase.

DL lashes out at mess in Department, threatens to quit

Hyderabad, August 03: Health and Medical Education Minister D L Ravindra Reddy on Tuesday came out openly against his own department stating that the top officials were squarely responsible for the current ‘mess’ and malfunctioning of the entire health sector in the state which were compelling him to quit.

He said he was no longer in a position to continue with ‘chaos’ within.

Hyderabad, August 03: N Tulasi Reddy, 20-Point Programme Chairman, on Tuesday ridiculed the views expressed by Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao that Seemandhra people would not allow Telangana people to live there.

T Cong MPs urge PM to delete 14 F

‘Mod’ is my first love story: Nagesh Kukunoor

Mumbai, August 03: Director Nagesh Kuknoor, who was sure not to make a love story ever, proved himself wrong by making “Mod”. He says it was the story of the film that compelled him to venture into it.

“‘Mod’ is my first love story. I had always said I would never make a love story but here I did find something worth telling,” Kukunoor told reporters at the launch of the first look of the film here Tuesday.

“Mod” identifies with his critically acclaimed film “Dor”, Kukunoor revealed.

Paritala Ravi’s henchman Chaman surrenders

Hyderabad, August 03: The staunch follower and one of the most trusted lieutenants of former Telugu Desam Party MLA from Penukonda, Paritala Ravindra, Chaman on Tuesday surrendered before the Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy at his office.

Fearing for his life, the slain TDP MLA’s trusted lieutenant had gone into a self imposed exile following Paritala Ravindra’s assassination in 2005 and his whereabouts were unknown till now.

According to reports, Chaman had gone underground in Belgaum in Karnataka state immediately after the assassination of Paritala Ravindra.

Isolated heavy rains forecast for Coastal Andhra

Hyderabad, August 03: The Met Office on Tuesday said that isolated heavy rain may occur in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam of Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 48 hours while Telangana region receive isolated rain during the same period.

The Met office added that moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers may occur at many places in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari of Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Do not use T for mileage: Mallu

Khammam, August 03: Expressing confidence that the Centre will take a decision on the separate Telangana statehood demand as per the Constitutional norms and end the uncertainty in the state, Assembly Deputy Speaker Mallu Batti Vikramarka on Tuesday called upon political parties not to use the Telangana state issue to obtain mileage.

Talking to reporters at Gokinepalle in Mudikonda mandal in Khammam district, the Deputy Speaker appealed to political party leaders not to make inflammatory statements, thereby provoking the people and disturbing the law and order situation.

BVR tells KCR to refrain from provocative remarks

Vijayawada, August 03: Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary BV Raghavulu on Tuesday told Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao not to further vitiate the already surcharged atmosphere in the state by making statements that he would end life by consuming poison if the Centre fails to take a decision on Telangana state.

Officials told to oversee NREGS for farm labourers

Hyderabad, August 03: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday directed Rural Development Department Commissioner Jayalakshmi to visit the Godavari districts to oversee the works to provide employment under MGNREGS to the agricultural labourers in case of non-cultivation of Kharif in some areas in those districts.

It may be recalled that the officials of East Godavari district have already identified Rs 50 crore worth works under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in 13 Mandals.

Teesta Setalvad gets anticipatory bail

Ahmedabad, August 02: Social activist Teesta Setalvad of the Citizens for Justice and Peace was Tuesday granted anticipatory bail by a court here in a criminal case filed against her by a former aide Rais Khan, a lawyer said.

Additional Sessions Judge S.B. Gajera granted her plea for anticipatory bail with the condition that in the eventuality of facing arrest she may deposit Rs.25,000 and avail the bail, said S.M. Vohra, her lawyer.

Setalvad filed the application over Khan’s allegation that she had fabricated evidence in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots.
