Mumbai, August 04: With her new Hollywood film already a rage, Freida Pinto seems to be all over the place. Besides her improving acting skills, it’s her sartorial statements on the red carpet which are earning her more admirers with every successive appearance.

Of late, her legs have come in for some focused praise, some even going to the extent of calling them ‘the best in the business’. It certainly took some walking but the Slumdog star has certainly come a long way.

Baby cries before burial

Sao Paulo, August 04: Brazilian police say a newborn girl was saved from being buried alive when she started crying at a funeral home where she had been taken after doctors declared her dead.

A police statement says that the 14-year-old mother was seven months pregnant when she gave birth yesterday at the Santa Casa de Misericordia hospital in the city of Araxa.

Police say the hospital reported that the baby died moments after being born. The body was sent to a funeral home and as the undertaker was preparing it for burial, the girl started crying.

Bhopal Gas Tragedy: Court Admits Revision Petition

Bhopal, August 04 (Pervez Bari): A Bhopal court has accepted a revision petition and appeal filed by the Madhya Pradesh State Government, seeking enhancement of punishment to the accused of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the world’s worst industrial disaster.

According to sources the court of District judge Ms Sushma Khosla admitted the application and appeal and set the next date of hearing in the case for August 20. The court issued notices to India’s premier investigating agency Central Bureau of Investigation, (CBI), and all the eight accused in the case.

‘Palestine cause Muslims’ great battle’

Abu Dhabi, August 04: The speaker of the United Arab Emirates Federal National Council describes the issue of Palestine as the great battle of the Muslim world which should not be left in oblivion.

“Our great battle is the battle of Palestine,” Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair stated during a telephone conversation with Iranian Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijan late on Wednesday, IRNA reported.

‘Iran not after nuclear bomb’

Tehran, August 04: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says that the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program is solely aimed at peaceful purposes, and that it is not after a nuclear bomb.

“People who say Iran is moving toward the production of nuclear weapons are not Western scientists; they are Western politicians,” Ahmadinejad said in interview with Euronews TV channel on Wednesday.

The president said Iran’s production of 20-percent enriched uranium is for purely peaceful purposes and is used to produce radio medicines.

No Lokayukta notice yet, ready for probe: PSR

Hyderabad, August 04: Handlooms and Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao on Wednesday denied reports that the Lokayukta has sent notices to him in response to the petition submitted by seeking a probe into allegations levelled against him and his family members.

Dr Shankar Rao’s denial came amidst reports that the Lokayukta had taken not of the two page letter written by him.

The Textiles Minister however said that if he receives any notices from the Lokayukta, he will file the reply ten days before the due date.

CII team briefs CM on Partnership Summit

Free SMS traffic alerts service launched in city

Hyderabad, August 04: The Hyderabad Traffic Police has tied up with a website on Wednesday and launched a free Short Messaging Service to alert commuters about traffic jams, live traffic situations and referring alternate routes.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) CV Anand said that the SMS service is available to all citizens who possess a mobile connection.

TSJAC postpones bandh from Aug 5 to 8

Hyderabad, August 04: The Telangana Students Joint Action Committee on Wednesday announced that it has postponed its earlier call of a Telangana bandh from August 5 to August 8.

The bandh call was in protest against conducting of Sub-Inspectors recruitment examination by the state government without deleting Clause 14 F from the Presidential Orders.

Students JAC convener G Kishore made the announcement regarding the postponement of the bandh date after discussions with Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Chairman M Kodandaram at state Bharatiya Janata Party Office in Nampally.

Advantage opposition as govt in bind on 14 F

Hyderabad, August 04: As may be seen, the scrapping of Clause 14 F from the Presidential Order issued in 1975, has pushed the state government in a piquant situation.

The issue has bundled up almost every section of the separate Telangana statehood units, including the opposition leaders from Telangana region, who are crying hoarse for removal of cited order.

In one respect, the opposition has taken full advantage of the situation and has managed to corner the ruling party here, even as the Congress bosses are sitting in the distant New Delhi, effectively having deadlocked the issue.

Free transport, Medicines and other facilities for Pregnant women: Azad

New Delhi, August 04: As part of its effort to reduce maternal and infant mortality, the government has launched a new scheme for providing transport fare, free medicines and other facilities to pregnant women for delivery in hospitals, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Wednesday.

Replying to a discussion on a bill on the Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, the health minister said that it was for the state governments to implement the policy.

London, August 04: The wife of a doctor landed herself in trouble after mistakenly sending to her hubby a text message which she meant for her lover, Daily Mail reported.

The doctor threatened to kill his estranged wife after she accidentally sent him a text message intended for her lover, a British court heard.

Nurse Victoria Stacey wrote a message for a family friend with whom she was having an affair, which read: “How about another weekend in the Marriott Hotel in Birmingham?”

Monsoon vigorous in Coastal Andhra, Tekkalli receives 13 CM rains

Hyderabad, August 04: The Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad on Wednesday said that the southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh with rain occurring at most places over the region and at a few places over Telangana and Rayalaseema.

Due to this vigorous monsoon, Tekkali in Srikakulam district has recorded a very heavy rainfall of 13 CM, the Met office said. Besides this, heavy rainfall was also recorded at Dowlaiswaram in East Godavari district with 9 CM, Kakinada, Palasa and Sompeta (both Srikakulam district) 7 CM each.

Two school boys stabbed by juniors

New Delhi, August 04: Two government school students were Wednesday stabbed and seriously injured by their juniors outside their institution in south Delhi, police said.

Mehtab and Aftab, both aged 18, were stabbed in Sunlight Colony in the afternoon by two juniors who study in the same school and had a a grudge against them, police said.

“The assailants attacked the duo with a sharp edged weapon, possibly a knife,” the official added.

The injured victims were rushed to Jeevan Hospital, while the attackers managed to flee.

Baba held for rape

New Delhi, August 04: A member of an NGO which offered help to girls suffering from trauma was arrested in west Delhi for raping a teenaged tribal girl three months ago, police said Wednesday.

Baba Wam Dev Ram, 26, hailing from Jharkhand was operating NGO BB Tribal Welfare Society from north Delhi’s Rani Bagh area since he came to Delhi around seven years ago, said a police official.

Despite being threatened, the victim contacted police June 4 and Baba was arrested Tuesday from Punjabi Bagh area, said police.

179 men penalised for using women’s coach in Metro

New Delhi, August 04: About 179 men were fined for travelling in Delhi Metro coaches reserved for women, an official said Wednesday.

“A total of 174 were let off after fine and five were handed over to Delhi Metro Railway Police for failure to pay the fine,” a spokesperson of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which gives security cover to Delhi Metro, told IANS.

Never paid any bribe to anyone: Tata

Mumbai, August 04: Tata group Chairman Ratan Tata today rejected allegations of giving bribe to former telecom minister A Raja to secure 2G spectrum allocation and said charges being made in the court proceedings were an attempt at diversion.

Facing questions from a shareholder at the AGM of Tata Steel company, he said unfortunately there are no defamation laws in the country and one can say anything in court and get away with it.

Hyderabad, August 04: Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao and senior educationist and MLC Chukka Ramaiah faced some embarrassing moments when they came to express solidarity to ‘Deeksha’ of Telangana Teachers Joint Action Committee at Indira Park on Wednesday, when they were shown slippers and heckled.

Centre releases Rs 409 cr for 353 model schools in state
