Hyderabad, August 28: Shab-e-Qadr was observed with religious fervour across twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Largest congregations were seen in old city areas. Markazi Jalsa Shab-e-Qadr was conducted by Milad committee at Khilwat ground while a grand jalsa Shab-e-Qadr was held at Jamia masjid Chowk by Amarat millat-e-Islamia.

I felt happy that despite deadly distances of Delhi, at least some friend of mine thought that he could break fast in our house. You are aware that I live in Delhi almost lonely. The area I live is very far from the places where the real gatherings of pomp and show of Ramazan could be seen. People continue eating something or the other after Iftaar. I mean the areas of Old Delhi and Jamia Milliah Islamia. When one visits these places, his faith becomes refreshed.

Gaddafi’s underground tunnels found

Tripoli, August 28: Libyan opposition fighters have found a network of tunnels and bunkers underneath the capital of Tripoli, belonging to the fugitive Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The tunnels stretch from Gaddafi’s Bab al-Aziziya compound all the way to the city’s international airport as well as the Rixos hotel, where some 30 journalists had been held hostage for five days by regime forces, CNN reported on Friday.

Some 700 meters of the network has so far been cleared by the opposition fighters.

Scientists discover diamond planet

Melbourne, August 28: Australian scientists say they have found an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard.

“The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon — i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun,” said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

‘Fukushima zone off limit for decades’

Tokyo, August 28: The Japanese government has warned that areas near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant could remain uninhabitable for decades due to high radiation leaked into the environment.

In a meeting with local officials on Saturday, the Tokyo government estimated that it could take more than 20 years before residents could safely return to areas with current radiation readings of 200 millisieverts per year, and a decade for areas at 100 millisieverts per year, Reuters reported.

New Delhi, August 28: “I am not the biggest hero, Anna (Hazare) is the real hero,” said superstar Aamir Khan on Saturday as he pledged support to the activist’s fight for a strong anti-corruption law.

Khan’s remarks at Ramlila Maidan came as a key Hazare aide Kumar Viswas described the actor as the biggest hero of the country who has lent his support to the movement.

Regaling Hazare’s supporters by singing “Mitwaa…” from his superhit movie ‘Lagaan’, Khan requested the 74-year-old activist to call off his fast as they needed him for leading the countrymen in further struggle.

20-year-old youth murdered in Bahadurpura

Hyderabad, August 28: A 20-year-old youth died of a head injury that he suffered after being hit by an iron rod by his friend in Bahadurpua on Friday night.

According to Bahadurpura inspector G Bhiksham Reddy, the deceased Shaik Saddam, used to work as welder along with three other workers – Rahmat, Mohammad and Umair in a shop owned by Quddu in Bahadurpura. On Friday night, Rahmat and Umair started quarrelling on some petty issue. Saddam and Mohammad tried to intervene and pacify them. But in a fit of rage, Rahmat hit Saddam with an iron rod on head causing serious wound.

New Delhi, August 28: It is all happenning at the Ramlila Maidan: children lost and found; purses returned and found empty; and cell phones blinking unattended in the dark.

In the blaring noise of patriotic songs and sloganeering crowds, 40-year-old Harish Yadav from Bihar breaks into tears when he narrates how he lost his eight-year-old son at the spawling yet crowded ground, venue of Anna Hazare’s hunger strike for the last 12 days.

Yadav found his son with the help of volunteers after an hour of frenetic search.

Rain disrupts normal life across AP

Anna to end fast Toady, says only half battle won

New Delhi, August 28: After 12 days of fasting for an anti-corruption law that galvanized tens of thousands across India, Anna Hazare announced Saturday night that he will call off his protest at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Looking weak but sounding jubilant, Hazare, 74, told the cheering crowds at Ramlila ground that he would end his hunger strike now that parliament had taken the first step to frame a strong Lokpal bill.

Pak court orders confiscation of Musharraf’s assets

Islamabad, August 28: An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan Saturday ordered confiscation of property of former president Pervez Musharraf for his failure to appear before the court in the 2007 murder case of ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto, court officials said.

The court has already declared Pervez Musharraf as an “absconder” in the assassination case of Benazir Bhutto as he has not agreed to clarify his position in court despite several notices, Xinhua reported.

Gaddafi’s guards raped kids: Amnesty

London, August 28: Prison guards loyal to Muammar Gaddafi raped child detainees, human rights group Amnesty International has said.

Amnesty also accused some Libyan rebels of attacking children and imprisoning migrant workers, says the Daily Express.

The group has compiled a dossier of reported abuse from interviews with prisoners and survivors of the civil war.

It said it found evidence of child rape in Tripoli’s Abu Salim prison while under Gaddafi’s control.

Two boys told their prison mates they had been raped on numerous occasions by a guard.
