Hyderabad, July 25: The Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. Dinesh Reddy has met the Chief Minister, Mr. N Kiran Kumar Reddy in his Camp Office on Monday morning.

The DGP briefed the Chief Minister about the law and order situation in the state. The Chief Minister, reportedly, made some suggestions to the DGP.

Congress dismisses charges of ‘accused’ Raja

New Delhi, July 25: The Congress Monday dismissed the charges made by former communications minister A. Raja against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying that he is an ‘accused’ in the 2G case and the matter is subjudice.

‘The accused can say anything in his defence, it is a very sad day for Indian democracy if we start giving unnecessary reliance on the comments of an accused trying to present his case,’ Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said.

Delhi couple commits suicide after financial losses

New Delhi, July 25: A 55-year-old man who had suffered massive financial losses and his wife allegedly committed suicide at their home in north Delhi’s Ashok Vihar, police said.

Arvind Mathur, who worked as a finance manager in Jagjeey industry, and Rekha Mathur, 52, slashed their wrists, an official said. Their daughter found their bodies lying in a pool of blood at their Ashok Vihar Phase-1 residence.

New Delhi, July 25: Right-wing extremists’ bombs killing people: PC New Delhi: Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday lashed out at the RSS for its association with right-wing fundamentalist forces, saying the latter have made bombs which have exploded and killed people in the country.

Chidambaram said that is why the BJP is targeting selected ministers because the UPA government has quickened investigations into right-wing terror acts and proceedings in Ayodhya cases.

The minister said he could not think of any other reason.

Narasimha Rao responsible for Babri Masjid demolition, Cong a ‘circus’: Mani

New Delhi, July 25:  Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has said that former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao was to be blamed for the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid, as the act occurred when he was in office.

Talking to media persons in New Delhi on Sunday, Aiyar said that Rao had a conflict with Congress party over secularism.

TRS legislators again submit their resignations

Hyderabad, July 25: All 11 legislators of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) sent in their resignations to Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker Monday, two days after he rejected the resignations of over 100 lawmakers from the region.

The TRS lawmakers faxed their resignations to the office of the speaker. With this, the number of MLAs who have quit since Sunday rose to 15. Four rebel legislators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) tendered their resignations Sunday.

Uncle raped Surat teen for 3 years

Surat, July 25: A teenage girl was repeatedly raped by her own uncle for three years in Surat.

The girl had been living at her uncle’s house as her mother was unable to support her.

The incident came to light after the girl approached the police and registered a complaint against the uncle.

Seventeen-year-old Ayesha (name changed), a resident of Nava Kamela area near Salabatpura, filed a complaint against her uncle, Sarifshah Fakir, at Limbayat police station.

Decision on Karnataka after Lokayukta report: BJP

New Delhi, July 25: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said any decision on Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will be taken after it receives the Lokayukta report indicting him in a multi-crore mining scam.

‘I have spoken to Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and he said that as the party chief whatever I will decide, he will obey,’ BJP chief Nitin Gadkari told reporters here.

‘On the basis of perception, I never take any political decisions. When we get the Lokayukta report, we will take the right and appropriate action on the Karnataka issue,’ Gadkari added.

DMK leader surrenders in land grab cases

Chennia, July 25: DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister Veerapandi Arumugam, accused in two cases of land grab, Monday surrendered to police on the directions of the Madras High Court.

He was later brought before a local court in this Tamil Nadu city, around 325 km from Chennai, and sent to police custody.

The DMK leader will appear before the local court July 27 for getting bail.

2G: PM, Chidambaram should quit, says BJP

New Delhi, July 25: Reacting to former telecom minister A Raja’s claims that transactions made in the allocation of 2G spectrum were known to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and then finance minister P Chidambaram, BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Monday demanded their resignation.

Addressing a press conference here, Gadkari said both PM Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram should owe up the moral responsibility for what he termed as the biggest scam in the history of independent India.

India signs civil nuclear deal with S Korea

Seoul, July 25: India Monday signed a civil nuclear cooperation deal with South Korea, allowing a framework for Korean companies to participate in atomic power plant projects in the country.

The agreement was signed after a meeting between President Pratibha Patil with her South Korean counterpart Lee Myung-Bak.

South Korea has become the ninth country which had signed nuclear agreement with India after it got the waiver from the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group (NSG) in 2008.

The others are the US, France, Russia, Canada, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Argentina and Namibia, an official said.

Singer Amy Winehouse found dead

London, July 25: Troubled singer Amy Winehouse, who was struggling with her drug addiction, was Saturday found dead in her North London home, reports hollywood.com.

Emergency services responded to a call at 3:54 p.m. (GMT) but once officers arrived, they found her unresponsive.

Hollywood.com further reported that a statement released by the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05 hours today, Saturday 23rd July following reports of a woman found deceased.”

Man drinks petrol for 42 years

Beijing, July 25: Gasoline powers vehicles all around the world, but a sick Chinese man has been drinking the sticky liquid for 42 years under the illusion that it can relieve his physical pain, news agency Xinhua reported.

Chen Dejun, 71, lives by himself in shabby thatched cottage on a hill in Shuijiang township, Nanchuan district of southwest China’s Chongqing municipality. The short and bony man said he drinks 3 to 3.5 litres of gasoline every month, which he buys from a station at the foot of the hill, Xinhua reported.

Saudi to set minimum marriage age

Riyadh, July 25: Saudi Arabia intends to set a minimum age for girls allowed to marry under a new law intended to curb child marriages following a surge in such a phenomenon in the conservative Gulf Kingdom.

The ministry of justice is working on a regulation banning the marriage of female minors, most of which are forced by their fathers to marry much older men for dowry or other personal purposes, newspapers said.

Auto drivers to stage ‘blow horn’ protest

Hyderabad, July 25: Protesting against the rejection of Telangana MLAs’ resignations by the speaker, auto drivers will stage a bizarre ‘blow horn (horn bajao) protest on July 26 at state assembly at 11 am.

Telangana auto drivers JAC leader Amanullah Khan stated this in a press note and said that auto drivers will support the strike called by Telangana government employees. He said that government has failed in resolving long pending issues of auto drivers.
