Moderate to heavy showers predicted for state

Hyderabad, July 28: The Met Department on Wednesday said that moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and may occur over Rayalaseema.

The Met departments further warned that isolated heavy rain would occur over Telangana and in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and may occur over Ralaseema during next 48 hours.

Consensus not possible on T: Seethakka

Hyderabad, July 28: Telugu Desam Party MLA from Telangana Seethakka on Wednesday opined that it was very difficult for various parties to arrive at a unanimous opinion on the controversial separate statehood issue.

Timing of strike not right, please reconsider: Botsa to employees

Hyderabad, July 28: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Wednesday appealed to Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee to reconsider its decision of resorting to a mass strike from August 17.

Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, the PCC chief said that the employees’ decision to go on a mass strike was not right since it was taken at a time when High Command was consulting Telangana and Seemandhra leaders to arrive at a consensus on the controversial separate statehood issue.

Chiru’s son-in-law finally surrenders before Court

Hyderabad, July 28: Months after being underground, Sirish Bharadwaj, the younger son-in-law of actor-turned-politician and Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi surrendered himself before the Nampally Criminal Courts on Wednesday.

After his surrender, Sirish was remanded to 14 days police custody. Following the Court directions, the police have shifted him to Chanchalguda Jail. Earlier, the City Crime Station police filed a petition in the court seeking his custody for five days.

Impossible to achieve unanimity on T: Errabelli

Hyderabad, July 28: A day after Union Home Minister P Chidambaram sought unanimity and cooperation of all political parties in solving the controversial statehood issue, Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Wednesday stated that it was impossible to achieve unanimity on the Telangana state issue.

Talking to media persons at Telugu Desam Legislature Party Office, Mr Dayakar Rao said that, “it is very difficult to achieve consensus on the issue. The only possible solution before the Centre is to invoke Article 3 of the Constitution and solve the issue.”

Barkas Govt school Wall collapse,5 girl students injured

Hyderabad, July 27: At least four students, among the 5 who were left injured in a freak accident at the Government Girls High School, Barkas, were admitted to the Owaisi Hospital, Kanchan Bagh on Wednesday.

The doctors at the hospital said that the condition of the four girls was stable, but added that they were being monitored after receiving deep cuts on their heads.

Dead man wakes in morgue fridge

Nairobi, July 27: A 50-year-old woke up in a body bag after his family found him unconscious and thought he had passed away.

The man who spent about 21 hours on a corpse trolley, had had a severe asthma attack, reports The Sun.

He started screaming upon waking up and scared the lives out of the mortuary staff, who thought he was a ghost and fled from the scene. The man was freed later.

Khar to visit Ajmer Shrine on Thursday

New Delhi, July 27: Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar will visit the Sufi pilgrim centre of Ajmer in Rajasthan Thursday, official sources said.

Khar will leave New Delhi Thursday morning by a special flight to Jaipur. From there she will proceed to Ajmer to pay obeisance at the mausoleum of Sufi saint Hazrat Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti, the sources added.

The shrine, dedicated to the Sufi saint who came to Ajmer from Persia in 1192, attracts thousands of pilgrims throughout the year.

On return to Jaipur after the pilgrimage, Khar will fly to Islamabad.

Balasore, July 27: Entangled in the web of rising prices of raw materials, the fishing net weavers are finding it hard to make a living out of the profession in the northern parts of the State.

Families engaged in the profession of knitting nets suffer silently in the absence of marketing facilities. A piece of fishing net which was available for `200 a couple of years back, is now priced between ` 450 and ` 500. A decade ago the hand-woven nets were being sold for less than ` 100.

Students visit orphanage

Bhubaneshwar, July 27: The students of DPS-Kalinga on Tuesday visited the Mother Teresa Orphanage here to hand over donations to the inmates collected through their Good Samaritan Foundation.

Desperate farmers keep dying yet again

Sambalpur, July 27: With drought looming, three suicide cases of farmers have shaken the community sending a grim reminder of the impending situation.

On Sunday, Dhananjaya Pradhan (35) of Sarla village in Bargarh district allegedly attempted suicide. He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital only to be declared brought dead. A day later, another farmer, K Chakrabarty Rao (45) of Talpadar village in Dhankauda block of Sambalpur district consumed pesticide.

Tata Teleservices: Net loss is Rs.119.32 crore

New Delhi, July 27: Telecom service provider Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Ltd Tuesday posted a net loss of Rs.119.32 crore for the quarter ended June 30.
The company had a net profit of Rs.557.88 crore in the like period of the previous financial year, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The net sales, however, stood at Rs.584.98 crore during the quarter under review as against Rs.552.2 crore during the like period last year.
At Bombay Stock Exchange, the shares of the company closed 3.07 percent lower at Rs.22.10.

MRPL posts six-fold increase in profit

New Delhi, July 27: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), Tuesday posted a six-fold increase in net profit at Rs.172.7 crore for the quarter ended June 30.
The net profit during the like period in the previous financial year was Rs.28.46 crore.

Net sales stood at Rs.13,369 crore in the quarter under review, up 70 percent as compared to Rs.7,877.5 crore during the corresponding period.

TN firm to cultivate cotton, soya in Ethiopia

Chennai, July 27: Coimbatore based start-up venture Sara Cotton Fibres Private Ltd plans to cultivate cotton and soya in 25,000 acres in Ethiopia and also set up a cotton ginning facility in the African country.

“We will grow long staple cotton on the 25,000 acre land leased for 25 years in Ethiopia. The land in a single stretch is along the Omo river there. We have raised $6.4 million through a mix of debt and equity,” chief financial officer K.S. Sundhar Rajan told IANS over phone from Coimbatore.

MARG bags Gujarat power project’s work

Gandhinagar, July 27: Chennai-headquartered diversified infrastructure organisation MARG Ltd. has won an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work order valued at Rs.237.58 crore from Bhavnagar Energy Company Ltd. in Gujarat, an official said Tuesday.

The work order includes a sea water intake, outfall and circulating water system for the 2X250 MW lignite-based thermal power plant at Padva, in Bhavnagar district. The time frame for completion of the project is 24 months.
