China, July 04: According to the business news website, Beijing approached a fund that buys stock from former Facebook employees to see if it could assemble a stake large enough “to matter.” Moreover, Citibank is rumored to be trying to acquire as much as $1.2 billion of stock for two sovereign wealth funds, one from the Middle East and the other Chinese. Business Insider reports a third source, from a “very influential” Silicon Valley investment bank, confirms that Citi is representing China.

Delegation of NRI organizations meets AI manager

Jeddah, July 4: A delegation comprising of various NRI organizations and individual personalities on Friday evening met Pravin Mistry, Air India’s manager for the Western Region of Saudi Arabia and explain to him various problems faced by the Indians. The delegation demanded better services and free baggage allowance for Zamzam water through Air India flights.

Woman forced to give birth on the pavement

New Delhi, July 04: In a shocking case of apathy in Kannauj, a woman is forced to give birth on the road after a hospital refused to admit her, allegedly because she didn’t have enough money.

The poor pregnant woman was allegedly denied admission in a district hospital in Kannauj, uttar Pradesh. She was forced to give birth on the roadside. The newborn survived.

The victim’s husband alleges the nursing staff demanded of Rs 15 hundred bribe which he could not afford. He alleges that they manhandled his wife and told them the foetus was already dead.

2G scam: Court to resume hearing today

New Delhi, July 04: The hearing in the 2G spectrum scam, which was held up due to the summer break in the district courts here, is all set to resume on Monday.

The high-profile accused in the case, including former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa and 11 others, will appear before special CBI judge OP Saini, who is exclusively dealing with the case after the Supreme Court’s directions.

The court had held the last hearing in the case on June 10.

Man sells daughter to sex trade

New Delhi, July 04: Another sex scandal has rocked Kerala. A man has been arrested for trying to sell his daughter to the sex trade in Kothamangalam.

Police said the fourteen-year-old victim was sexually exploited in cars and autorickshaws for the past three months.

The police were tipped off by an anonymous caller and it was then that they nabbed the girl’s father. Two other men were also arrested in the case.

The victim was rescued and taken to a government hospital.

Petaling Jaya, July 04: As many as 11,809 or 73% of all rape cases reported in the country involved children aged 18 and below, and in most cases the crime is committed by family members such as fathers, stepfathers and uncles.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar, who revealed the statistics, said from 2006 to 2010, 11,809 out of 16,159 rape victims were children, with 54% aged 16 and below, while another 19% were aged 16 to 18.

London, July 04: A painting by Leonardo da Vinci that reportedly sold for just £45 at an auction in 1958, has now been estimated to be worth a staggering £120 million. The oil on wood panel painting, named ‘Salvator Mundi’, or ‘Saviour of the World’, shows Christ with a raised right hand as if in blessing and his left hand holding a globe.

Although its existence was known for half a century, it had been attributed to a pupil of da Vinci, but now a group of experts has established that it was by the master himself.

Sex racket busted in Srinagar, 13 arrested

Jammu, July 04: In Srinagar The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police have busted a sex racket in Srinagar and arrested 13 persons, including four women.

According to J&K police, the arrests were made recently following a tip off. The flesh trade racket was allegedly being run from Hotel Nida in Iqbal Park, Srinagar.

Muzaffar Ahmad, investigating officer told Mumbai Mirror that 10 people were arrested from the hotel. “Three more were arrested later. Investigations and on and we expect more arrests,” he said.
