17400 crack EAMCET but fail in intermediate

Hyderabad, July 4: This is the strangest predicament for more than 17 thousand students in the state. 17400 have qualified for admission in the Engineering and Medical Courses in the EAMCET 2011 but have failed in the intermediate examinations. Interviews for APPSC Group-I only

Hyderabad, July 4: State government is mulling over relieving all the recruitments of AP Public Service Commission from interviews except only for APPSC Group-I. This is recommended by Satyanarayana Commission to the AP Government formed after allegations of irregularities during selection process.

Committee has decided that only APPSC Group-I requires an interview in which candidates personality and decision making will be assessed while other competitive exams will have selection process only through written test.

Committee feels that interviews for other services are useless.

Problems continue despite developmental activities in old city

Hyderabad, July 4: Digging work is in progress in various places of old city for laying pipelines. At some places nearly one month has elapsed since the work is finished but the roads have been still left potholed. As a result with even the slightest rain the water is getting clogged into the pits. The vehicle riders face various hardships traveling on the jagged roads. The bumpy ride sometimes leads to accidents.

72 MLAs resign over Telangana

Hyderabad, July 04: The Telangana statehood issue is on the boil again with all the 33 Telugu Desam Party MLAs and 35 Congress MLAs submitting their resignation to Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday demanding the division of Andhra Pradesh and the formation of a separate state.

GHMC seizes plastic bags worth 1 crore

Hyderabad, July 4: Enforcement team of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, by carrying out raids at several places seized 1425 kilogram polythene bags whose weight is less than 40 microns.

According to additional commissioner Municipal corporation Saleem Basha, plastic bags worth 1 crore have been seized from a godown at Katedhan. Apart from that carrying out raids in city limits one thousand kilo plastic bags were seized.

GHMC officials have rejected the plea of businessmen in which they demanded to exclude plastic sheets and cover material from ban.

Shabbir flays Keshav Rao’s remark against Azad

Hyderabad, July 4: Former Minority Welfare Minister Mr. Mohammad Ali Shabbir strongly criticized the Rajya Sabha MP Keshav Rao’s remark against general secretary AICC and incharge Andhra Pradesh Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and said that Keshav Rao has violated party discipline.

Mr. Mohammad Ali Shabbir said Mr. Keshav Rao on one side claims to be a senior Congress leader but on the other hand he has violated the instructions of party high command and used unparliamentary words about Ghulam Nabi Azad.

15 hrs fasting this Ramadan in UAE

Dubai, July 04: A minimum fasting duration this Ramadan, which begins on August 1, would be 14 hours, with the initial few fasts being as long as 14 hours 50 minutes.

As expected during peak summer of August the temperature throughout the month would range between 40 to 45 degrees Celcius.

The first ten days of the holy month would see the fasting duration come down from 14 hours 50 minutes to 14 hours 28 minutes. This would further reduce in the next ten days with the 20th day of fasting being of 14 hour 15 minutes.

Controversial UP maulana to face judgment day on July 23

Meerut, July 04: The fate of Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi, the controversial vice-chancellor of leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom, Deoband will be decided at a meeting of the seminary’s majlis-e-shoora, or the governing council, on July 23. Vastanvi had triggered a controversy soon after his appointment in January with his alleged remarks praising Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

He had reportedly said Muslims should forget the communal riots of 2002 and move on.

Vastanavi later denied the allegations, saying he was misquoted.

Telangana issue: Jagan loyalist MLA quits

Hyderabad, July 04: Rebel Congress MLA Konda Surekha on Monday resigned from her post in line with the decision taken by her party colleagues demanding creation of Telangana state.

Ms. Surekha, who is currently sailing with YSR congress party, met Assembly Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and submitted her resignation.

She represents Parakala in Warangal district, the hotbed of Telangana agitation.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy also submitted his resignation to the deputy speaker on the statehood issue.

Maoists blast tracks; goods train service disrupted in Orissa

Rourkela, July 04: Maoists on Monday damaged railway tracks by setting off landmines in Orissa’s Sundargarh district bordering Jharkhand, where the ultras have called a 24-hour bandh.

The landmines damaged the tracks at two places in the Saranda forest areas bordering Jharkhand, about 80 km from here, GRP sources said.

The goods train service which transports iron ore to the Rourkela Steel Plant has been suspended.

Buses between Rourkela and Jharkhand also went off the roads.

The tracks were being repaired after the GRP, RPF and Railway Engineering staffs went to the spot.

Girl on sale for Dh5,500 in Ajman

Ajman, July 04: Two Asian men are on trial for allegedly trying to sell a girl for Dh5,500. The Ajman Public Prosecution referred the duo to Ajman Criminal Court on charges of human trafficking, reported local media.

Meanwhile, the girl is accused of violating labour laws by working for the suspects without permission from her sponsor.

Ajman Police set up a trap to nab the culprits following reliable information that an Asian man has been running a prostitution ring from an apartment in Sharjah where he held several women and that he was willing to sell one of them.

Diabetes medicine risk of bladder cancer

London, July 04: The Drug Administration of Viet Nam (DAV) has confirmed that pioglitazone, which is an ingredient in medicines used to treat diabetes, can increase the risk of bladder cancer.

DAV Director Truong Quoc Cuong said the French Medicine Agency (Afssaps) decided last Thursday to suspend the use of medicines containing pioglitazone, including Actos and Competact, while awaiting final results of a review of their benefits and risks.

SC order on black money today

New Delhi, July 04: On its opening day after the summer vacation, the Supreme Court will pass interim orders on the black money issue on Monday.

The Supreme Court will pass order on revealing names of 26 Indians who kept black money in LGT bank. The Centre had opposed revealing the names of 26 account holders saying it would violate bi-lateral agreement.

The black money issue is haunting the government for the last couple of months since the Supreme Court is closely following what the government is doing to track black money stashed abroad.

13 Al Qaeda militants killed in Yemen

Saana, July 04: At least 13 Al Qaeda militants and 10 soldiers were killed when the militants launched an attack at military troops in Yemen Sunday, army officers said.

The attack took place in the southern province of Abyan. Dozens were injured from both sides, the officers told Xinhua.Clashes were still going on in various parts of the Al Qaeda-seized Zinjibar city.

Fierce battles erupted late Friday between Al Qaeda militants and troops of the 25th Mechanised Brigade stationed in the outskirts of Zinjibar, More than 50 soldiers have been taken as hostages, they said.

17 children injured in grenade attack on school at Afghan

Kabul, July 04: A suspected militant on a motorbike threw a hand grenade at the gates of a school in north Afghanistan today, injuring 17 children, the interior ministry said in a statement.

The incident took place in Maimana, the main city of Faryab province, the ministry said, adding that the children had been taken to hospital, with two in a serious condition.

“Seventeen school students were wounded when a terrorist gunman riding a motorbike threw a hand grenade at the main gate,” said the statement, which condemned the attack.

Nirupama Rao moved by Pakistan’s change of heart on terrrorism

New Delhi, July 04: Last month’s foreign secretary-level dialogue with Pakistan seems to have given India a genuine ray of hope.

In a significant statement, foreign secretary Nirupama Rao has said that the “prism” through which Pakistan sees terrorism “has definitely been altered”.

When asked during a TV channel interview whether there has been a change in Pakistan’s attitude, Rao said: “I think the prism through which they see this issue (terrorism) has definitely been altered… I see that as an outcome that we must take note of, that we must take cognisance of.”

I’m not ready to return to films yet: Jeetendra

Mumbai, July 04: Although his contemporaries are still active in films, veteran actor Jeetendra is not in a mood to act any time soon.

Jeetendra was last seen in a full-fledged role in “Kucch To Hai” (2003) and made a special appearance in a song in “Om Shanti Om” (2007).

“When I feel like acting again, I’ll definitely do a film. Right now I’m just not in the mood,” the 69-year-old thespian told IANS in an interview.

Srikkanth panel’s surprise young India pick his son

New Delhi, July 04: The BCCI’s senior selection committee, headed by former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth, has picked his son, Anirudha Srikkanth, as part of India’s Emerging Players squad which will play a series of three-day games in Australia next month.

The Tamil Nadu opener had a below average season last year, as his 251 runs from 9 innings didn’t even see him in the Top 50 Ranji Trophy run-getters. In the one-dayers, he was 27th on the list with 210 runs. He scored a couple of 50s for Tamil Nadu and one half-century for Chennai Super Kings at the IPL.
