IVRCL bags orders worth Rs 893-cr

Hyderabad, May 30: IVRCL Limited (IVRCL) on Monday said it has bagged orders worth Rs 893 crore for water, building, transportation and power projects.

The company’s water division bagged orders worth Rs 294.74 crore from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, the company said in a release issued here.

Scientists a step closer to reading your mind!

London, May 30: A team of scientists from the Centre for Innovation in Neuroscience and Technology at the University of Washington is one step closer to mind read, peering into the deepest recesses of the brain to watch words forming.

The finding could one day allow those with severe disabilities to ‘speak’.

Using electrodes, the researchers found the area of the brain that is involved in creating the 40 or so sounds that form the English language.

Baba’s mahasamadhi to be ready in July

Hyderabad, May 30: The works for the construction of the Mahasamadhi of Sathya Sai Baba began on May 27 and it will be ready for darshan by next Guru Poornima in July.

Though the samadhi is reported to be of normal size, it will be made unique with the marble platform that will cover it. A marble statue of Saibaba in a sitting posture with Abhaya Hastam will be put up there.

Bangladesh woman cuts off ‘attacker’s’ Sex organ

Dhaka, May 30: Police in southern Bangladesh say a woman cut off a man’s peniss during an alleged attempt to rape her and took it to a police station as evidence.

The incident took place in Mirzapur village, Jhalakathi, about 200km (124 miles) south of the capital, Dhaka.

Monju Begum, 40, a married mother of three, told police that neighbour Mozammel Haq Mazi forced his way into her shanty and started assaulting her.

Mr Mazi, who denies the accusation, has been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Dutch anti-Islam politician ‘never goes too far’: lawyer

Dutch, May 30: Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders often “went far” in his criticism of the Muslim religion, but he never overstepped acceptable boundaries, his lawyer said in court Monday.

“He goes far, but he never goes too far,” lawyer Bram Moszkowicz told the Amsterdam district court where the flamboyant politician faces hate speach charges.

“He doesn’t speak out because it’s funny. He speaks out over the gravest danger facing our Western civilisation: an increased Islamisation,” Moszkowicz told judges.

Bishop calls Islamic billboards offensive

Sydney, May 30: A Catholic bishop has slammed controversial Islamic billboards for being “provocative and offensive” and he’s calling for them to be removed from prominent locations across Sydney.

The billboards carrying the slogan `Jesus: a prophet of Islam’ were erected late last week in Darlinghurst, Rozelle and Rosehill.

They have been paid for by Islamic group MyPeace, which wants to encourage Christians and Muslims to find common ground by raising awareness that Islam believed in Jesus Christ.

New Scheme for Pregnant women in AP

Hyderabad, May 30: The State Government will soon take up “Janani” scheme under which nutritious food of 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of salt and 1 kg of Dal will be supplied to each pregnant women for 10 months.

The decision come out at the Chief Minister’s review meeting on health department. At the meeting, the Chief Minister has also taken a major decision for strengthening of government hospitals and health services.

Saudi new law for expat Visas

Manama, May 30: Saudi Arabia will soon put a six-year cap on the residency of foreigners in the country, the labour minister has said.

The decision will be part of ten programmes the Saudi government is planning to implement in order to regulate the local labour market, Adel Al Faqih said, Saudi daily Al Watan reported on Monday.

Companies will be given five months after the implementation of the labour reforms programme to regularise their situation, the minister said.

The reforms will aim at boosting employment opportunities for Saudis and increasing their competitive edge.

Raped Saudi man turns out to be a girl!

Riyadh, May 30: Doctors and police in Saudi Arabia got the shock of their life when a presumed man brought to hospital after being raped turned out to be a girl.

Police had found the man tied up and bleeding in a deserted area near the western town of Taif and rushed him to hospital after he told them his friends raped him and left him to die.

On arrival at hospital, the 24-year-old person told them he is a boy and that some of his friends kidnapped him to that area and had oral sex with him after tying him up. Police had suspicions after the person gave them a wrong name.

Mumbai, May 30: Imran Khan and Monica Dogra lost their pants for an ad that aired yesterday. Don’t get any ideas now. IK plays a shy boy next door in the ad while Monica plays a mischievous onlooker at a launderette.

The actor and the singer/actress (she debuted with Dhobi Ghat) recently shot for the first ad in the campaign, which seeks to proclaim the brand transition of a line of products for a leading denimwear company.

This is Monica’s first ad and she has also sung the jingle used for the ad.

Muscat, May 30: An Indian expatriate father is hanging on to the last ray of hope a liver transplant to save his four-year-old boy from cirrhosis.

However, Mohammad Zakir has exhausted all his savings in his fight against the disease to cure Mohammad Zaid in the last two and half years.

From the day doctors at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital told him that a liver transplant is the only option, the assistant pharmacist with the government hospital in Ibra is wondering where he will get more than 20,000 Omani riyals for the operation.

Pak court declares Musharraf fugitive

Islamabad, May 30: A Pakistani anti-terrorism court on Monday declared former president Pervez Musharraf a “proclaimed offender” or fugitive for failing to cooperate with investigators probing the 2007 assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto.

Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed of the Rawalpindi-based court declared Musharraf, currently living in self-exile outside Pakistan, a fugitive on the request of the Federal Investigation Agency.

Hindu family cremates Muslim woman by mistake

Jaipur, May 30: IT WAS a tragedy of error for two families — one Hindu and another Muslim — as bodies of two female burn victims got swapped in a hospital in Jaipur.

The Hindu family cremated the body of Ayesha Begum, 30, on Friday. The two women — Ayesha and Sundari Sain, 30, wife of Sunil Sain — had sustained 80 per cent burns caused by the bursting of stoves at their homes. They were admitted to Sawai Man Singh Hospital.

London, May 30: Taliban co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar leaked the whereabouts of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden to American investigators under a “deal” in which US promised to withdraw its troops from the militant group’s strongholds in Afghanistan, a media report has claimed.

The details of the extraordinary “deal” emerged after a confidential American briefing was found at bin Laden’s hide-out in Pakistan’s garrison town of Abbottabad, the Sunday Mirror reported.

Three of family drown in city lake

Hyderabad, May 30: A Sunday outing to a lake turned tragic for a family from Bandlaguda when three of them drowned in the water body at Pahadesharif.

On Sunday morning, Usma Begum of Ghouse Nagar along with her sister Hazeera Begum, 17, aunt Shabana Begum, uncle Faheem, 45, their son Arbaz, 11, and another family member, Shabana, 14, went to Ibrahimsagar lake in Jalpally.

CBSE Std-X results may be out today

Mumbai, May 30: The CBSE Std-X results for the Chennai region, which covers Maharashtra and nine other states and union territories, are likely to be declared at 3 pm on Monday.

“We are still not very sure. There is a possibility that the results of the Chennai region will be declared on May 30. Dead body found in Asmangadh

Hyderabad, May 30 (Siasat News): Sayeedabad police has found a dead body of 28-year-old person from Asmangadh who was identified as Veenu of Malakpet.

The dead body was found near a wine shop. According to the police, the deceased Veenu had not reached to his house since last two days and his relatives were worried.

Police Sayeedabad has registered a case and further investigations are on.

Srinagar, May 30: A college student jumped into the Chenab river in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir after she was harassed by police for having tea with a young man who studied with her, locals alleged Monday.

The body of the girl, in her 20s, has still not been recovered.

Rashida Bano was having tea with Najab Din at a tea stall on the bank of Chenab in Pul Doda town, some 165 km from here, Sunday.

TRS hits out at TDP stand on Telangana

Hyderabad, May 30: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has taken a strong view of Telugu Desam’s position on separate Telangana at the Mahanadu and blamed the latter for washing its hands off the issue by turning the focus on Central government.
