Six suffer dog bite in Chittoor district

Chittor, May 28: A mad dog went on a rampage biting six people in Mahal in Kalikiri mandal on Friday evening.

According to information, the injured were admitted in the local sub-centre (PHC) for treatment. The incident caused anxiety among the district officials camping in Kalikiri, 10 km away from Mahal, finalising the arrangements for the chief minister’s visit on Saturday.

Remove Selfish Ministers, says Textiles minister

Hyderabad, May 28: Textiles minister P Shankar Rao on Friday created a flutter saying that several selfish ministers were in N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Cabinet and they should be removed.

Speaking to reporters at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) office, he said the selfish ministers were looting public money. He gave several hints that the chief minister would reshuffle his Cabinet soon to render social justice to all sections. The chief minister is still continuing with YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s Cabinet after making some minor changes.

Move to reduce Backward Classes quota opposed

Prisoner dies of cardiac arrest

Srikakulam, May 28: A prisoner, who had been brought from Visakhapatnam Central Jail to Srikakulam District Jail for jail works recently, died due to cardiac arrest at Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), here in the early hours of Friday.

According to Superintendent of District Jail Vasanth Kumar, 38-year-old PL Lakshmi Narayana (38) belonging to Polaki mandal was convicted for murder due to family dispute.

Nine minors rescued, three arrested

Guntur, May 28: Nine children were rescued while they were being forcibly taken to Chickballapur in Karnataka by Prasanthi Express on Thursday night by three youths. Some co-passengers who got suspicion over the youths’ high-handed behaviour towards the children, alerted the railway police who swung into action and rescued the kids.

Jupally Krishna Rao may resume yatra from June 1

Hyderabad, May 28: Endowments minister Jupally Krishna Rao is likely to resume his Prajabhiman Yatra in Mahaboobnagar district from June 1 to press his demand for formation of Telangana state.

The yatra, which began on April 28 and has covered several villages in six Assembly constituencies in the district, was put on hold following the arrest of Krishna Rao and his ministerial colleague DK Aruna on May 20 when the latter objected to the yatra’s entry into her Gadwal constituency.

TDP presents a deficit budget at the Mahanadu

Hyderabad, May 28: After being seven years in the opposition, the Telugu Desam presented a deficit budget at the Mahanadu on Friday.

As per the income and expenditure statement for the year that concluded on March 31, the party had a deficit budget of Rs 91.55 lakh.

However, the total net assets of the party stood at Rs 16 crore. The party netted Rs 5.06 crore from membership and donations, Rs 1.05 crore from interest, Rs 2.40 lakh from rent.

Woman dies in clash

Srikakulam, May 28: In a clash between two groups of villagers over possession of a piece of land at Suryanarayana Puram village of Laveru mandal in the district, an old women died and seven others sustained sustained injuries last night.

CM leaves for Chittoor District tour

Hyderabad, May 28: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has begun efforts to set the house in order in his native district of Chittoor.

During his two-day visit to his native village Nagirepalli beginning on Saturday, Reddy is expected to break the ice with his political adversaries.

This apart, he is likely to meet people of his village and his Pileru constituency.

After staying in his village for two days on May 28 and 29, he will reach Tirumala on May 29 and stay at the Padmavathi Guest House for the night where he will meet all the dissident MLAs from the district.

Nagam asks Andhra leaders to bolster his fight

Hyderabad, May 28: The suspended TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Friday sent a 28-page letter to all the MLAs, MPs and MLCs who have been demanding for Samaikya Andhra.

In his letter, Nagam explained that injustice has been done to Telangana and asked Andhra leaders to cooperate with him in bifurcating the state. “Let us divide like brothers and compete with each other in terms of development,” he said.

OUJAC students try to disrupt Mahanadu

Hyderabad, May 28: The Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) made a bid on Friday to disrupt the Telugu Desam’s Mahanadu programme at Gandipet but were allegedly thrashed by party activists. In retaliation, suspected OUJAC students attacked the Reliance Fresh outlet at Vidyanagar and vandalised the premises.

The OUJAC had reportedly threatened to disrupt the Mahanadu demanding the TDP to spell their stand on a separate Telangana. A huge posse of policemen were deployed at the venue, anticipating trouble from pro-Telangana activists.

GHMC meet on school fire safety

TDP leader found dead in Vijayawada hotel

Vijayawada, May 28: Madira Educational Institutions chairman and Telugu Desam leader Madira Brahma Reddy (55) was found dead in a hotel room here on Friday.

Governorpet police believe that Reddy committed suicide by consuming pesticide.

Reddy, a native of Kodad in Nalgonda district and resident at Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad for several years, arrived in the on Wednesday.

They raped my pregnant wife

Nagpur, May 28: In a shocking incident that gives the city a bad name, a 6-month pregnant woman was raped by two men who were remotely known to her husband, at the MIDC in Hingna on Tuesday night. The two culprits, Durgesh Tiwari and Sandeep Dhore, first spiked Rajan’s drink to knock him senseless and then took turns to brutally savage 20-year-old Mona (both names changed).

The cops have nabbed Tiwari while Dhore is absconding.

Blue Cross to vaccinate 6,000 stray dogs

Hyderabad, May 28: “Hyderabad is going to become a rabies-free city in the next two years,” said Amala Akkineni, founder of the Blue Cross Society of Hyderabad said.

The NGO has taken up a month-long campaign to vaccinate 6,000 stray dogs through the Animal Birth Control and Rabies Vaccination programme.

Blue Cross will also work with other animal welfare organisations to create awareness about the campaign. “The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has agreed to vaccinate 5,000 more animals,” said Amala.

Two held for duping students

Hyderabad, May 28: Two con-men who were cheating engineering students by introducing themselves as the recruiters of IBM, the prominent software company, were nabbed by Cyberabad police on Friday.

Police said Aryapaka Prabhakar and Anumula Praveen approached Jayamukhi college of Engineering and Vaghdevi Engineering College in Warangal district posing as employees of IBM. After conducting campus interviews, Prabhakar and Praveen collected lakhs of rupees.

NIT director takes charge

Warangal, May 28: Professor K Srinivasa Rao, who was appointed as director of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, assumed charge today from in-charge director K Srimannarayana.

Prof Srinivasa Rao is an alumnus of the NIT. The new director vowed to transform the NIT into a model institute in the next six months. He promised to improve basic amenities in the institute and give priority to research.
