Jagan campers dare CM to seek trust vote

Hyderabad, January 28: Taking strong exception to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s recent remarks against late YSR’s family members, former Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy’s loyalists and former ministers and MLAs today challenged the chief minister asking him to prove his majority by seeking a trust vote in the Assembly.

CM to visit Anantapur for Rachabanda on Jan 30

Anantapur, January 28: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will visit the district on January 30 to participate in Rachabanda at Garladinne mandal headquarters, according to district collector B Janardhan Reddy. The district officials are making arrangements for the chief minister’s visit and inspected the Helipad arrangement at Garladinne ZP High School.

Meanwhile, the ruling party MLAs and other people representatives are working to congregate crowd for Kiran Kumar’s maiden visit to the district as the chief minister.

3 students killed as bus overturns in Andhra

Hyderabad, January 28: Three students of an engineering college were killed and 20 others were injured when a bus they were travelling in overturned near Tirupati town in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district Thursday evening, police said.

The bus belonging to state-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) was going to Tirupati from Madanpalli. It overturned near a railway crossing at Srinivasa Mangapuram near Tirupati.

Three students of an engineering college were killed and 20 others, most of them students, were injured.

Founder of Tri-Valley charged with visa fraud

Washington, January 28: Susan Xiao-Ping Su, founder of the “sham” Tri-Valley University in California which has mostly students from Andhra Pradesh on its rolls, has been charged with running an elaborate immigration fraud, netting millions of dollars from foreign nationals hoping to migrate to the US.

The fate of the university’s 1,555 students, 95 per cent of whom are from India and mostly Andhra Pradesh, remains unclear amid reports that some of them being questioned after raids by the US Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) last week.

CBI questions Raja’s aide in 2G scam

New Delhi, January 28:CBI today questioned Sadiq Pasha, a close aide of former Telecom Minister A Raja, in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

Official sources said Pasha was questioned by the agency about his links and possible business deals with the former minister.

Pasha owned certain firms which had alleged links to certain relatives of Raja. Pasha’s firms were also raided by the CBI late last year.

His firm is also under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate as part of its probe into the scam.

BJP activist’s torture claims concocted, says police

Srinagar, January 28:The claims of kidnapping and torture made by a BJP woman activist in Budgam district of Kashmir took a new turn late tonight as police said investigations have revealed that she had concocted a politically-motivated story.

“The details of the cellular phone towers on the SIM cards used by the woman show that she was present in Bemina area of the city throughout the period she claimed to be in custody of her alleged kidnappers,” a police spokesman said.

ITBP jawan killed in Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, January 28:A jawan of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was today killed in a Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, police said.

The incident took place when Maoists opened fire on a joint party of the district police, Chhattisgarh armed force and ITBP near Khunera village in Ambagad police limits, IGP R K Vij said.

The Maoists attacked the contingent around noon, which was on an anti-Naxal operation in the area, leaving an ITBP jawan dead, he said.

The deceased jawan was identified as Bhoop Singh, who died on his way to Raipur district hospital.

JNTU, Synopsis to launch new software design programme

Hyderabad, January 28:Synopsys, the US-headquartered world leader in software designing, and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in Hyderabad Friday signed an agreement to establish microelectronics programme at the JNTU.

The programme is aimed at training local talent and providing highly skilled specialists that can address the complex design requirements of semiconductor industry companies, an official said.

Vegetable prices finally reduces

Hyderabad, January 28: Sandhya Purohit was found carrying bags full of vegetables at a local super market.

She seemed quite happy with the current price of vegetables.

“In the last few weeks, price of vegetables have been soaring. We surely did not reduce our purchases, but now that prices have come down, it isn’t burning a hole in our pockets,” opined Sandhya, who works at a printing press. She also prefers buying vegetables from a supermarket than local vendors even though prices at a supermarket are relatively higher. “It is a lot more convenient,” she added.

Leopard stays out of sight

Hyderabad, January 28: The leopard sighted in city outskirts has probably moved onto another territory, according to forest officials.

Since the last two days, there has been no sign of the wild cat in and around Chary Nagar, where it was first sighted about a week back.

Failing for two days to lure the four-year-old leopard with a dog bait, forest officials have decided to change the bait to a goat. A 12-member team has been on night vigil since the last three days.

“While dogs are known to be a prefer red prey, the leopard has not returned.

US firm chosen as consultant for metro project

Hyderabad, January 28: The state government has selected M/s Louis Berger Consulting Pvt Ltd, a US based consultancy company as the independent engineer for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

From a list of six pre-qualified consultancy companies, two companies M/s Louis Berger and M/s Mott MacDonald Pvt Ltd had got qualified at the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage with their financial offers of Rs 83.60 crore and Rs 93.89 crore respectively.

The consultancy contract cost of Rs 83.60 crore will be shared equally by HMR and the concessionaire L&T.

Land allotment to sons a mistake: Yeddyurappa

New Delhi, January 28: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday admitted that he had committed a “mistake” by alloting land to his sons but appeared defiant about the act being “immoral or illegal”.

“If land is there you can offer it to anybody. My mistake is I allotted land to my son. If court takes a decision, let them take back the land,” Yeddyurappa told Headlines Today.

Missing businessman murdered

Hyderabad, January 28: The mystery behind a milk businessman from Bholakpur who went missing two weeks back was unraveled today. Police said the businessman, N Dayanand Yadav (21) was kidnapped and later murdered by his rivals. His body was dumped in the river Musi on the outskirts of the city and is yet to be recovered.

According to police, Dayanand was friends with a youngster, B Srinivas, who was also a milk businessman a few years back. Two years ago, the duo had a quarrel over a petty issue but it was sorted out with the intervention of local community leaders.

Rights forum rejects police’s encounter claim

Hyderabad, January 28: Human Rights Forum (HRF) today alleged that CPI (ML-Praja Prathigatana) party’s Khammam district secretary Pratap Reddy alias Suresh was not killed in an encounter as claimed by the police but was shot dead by the police in a cold-blooded manner.

Suresh was killed in an alleged encounter with the police near Boosaraayi village in Khammam on January 23.

Ravi Teja’s brothers abuse mediamen

Hyderabad, January 28: Film actor Ravi Teja’s brothers, Raghu Babu and Bharath, are in the news and again for wrong reasons. A complaint has been lodged against the duo for allegedly threatening and misbehaving with media personnel at the Central Crime Station (CCS) office in Basheerbagh today.

The duo came to the CCS office, as part of their regular attendance before police – a condition set by the court for granting bail in the drugs case registered against them.

The duo were caught, earlier, by the CCS while in possession of drugs.

Telangana activists disrupt CM’s public meet

Hyderabad, January 28: Telangana activists went on the rampage on Friday, pelting stones at a public meeting addressed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and damaging 15 vehicles in Nalgonda district of Telangana region.

A few policemen, including a deputy superintendent, were injured when protesters resorted to throwing stones at a meeting the chief minister was addressing as part of “Racchabanda”, a government programme aimed at taking the administration to the doorsteps of people.
