Moore and Adams adopt new dog

London, December 04: Hollywood actress Mandy Moore and rocker husband Ryan Adams have adopted a new pet dog.

The couple already had a dog and two cats from their local animal shelter, but the stars decided to give another rescued dog a home.

“Over Thanksgiving we adopted another dog. We have a dog ‘Joni’ and two cats, ‘Theo’ and ‘Vincent’, and ‘Jackson’, we just adopted, all of our animals are rescued,” famalefirst.co.uk quoted Moore as saying.

Obama pays surprise visit to U.S. troops in Afghan

Kabul, December 04: President Obama fled the politics and bad economic news in Washington on Friday for the safety of war-torn Afghanistan, where he brought the U.S. forces some holiday cheer.

He got a rousing reception in return.

“I’m not here to give a long speech,” a beaming Obama told the 3,850 military personnel jamming a hangar at Bagram Air base. “I want to shake as many hands as I can.”

Then Obama proceeded to thank them for their service and to reassure them that “the American people are united in support or you and your families.”

Pak cleric offers reward to kill Christian woman

Islamabad, December 04: A cleric in Pakistan has offered a reward of Rs.500,000 for anyone who kills a Christian woman sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet Mohammed.

“I will give Rs.500,000 to a person who will kill Aasia,” said Maulana Yousaf Qureshi, the prayer leader of the historic Mohabbat Khan Masjid in Peshawar.

He made the remarks during a rally of the Jamaat-e-Islami party Friday to protest against calls for amendments in the controversial blasphemy law and Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer’s efforts to have the woman pardoned, reports Daily Times.

Sarkozy to arrive in Bangalore

KUDA officer in ACB net

Hyderabad, December 03: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths caught a government official with disproportionate assets worth more than Rs 75 lakh in Warangal today. The sleuths conducted searches on Advocate’s Colony residence of the planning officer of Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) in Warangal, E Ajit Reddy, today and unearthed assets worth Rs 75 lakh.

Simultaneous searches were conducted in his office, residences of his friends at Hanamkonda and also at his native place Andukunthanda village in Chityal mandal, Warangal district, an official release said.

New Delhi, December 03: Talking tough, the government today rejected the proposal by domestic airlines for a massive fare hike and warned them of penalty and other action if the last-minute ticket prices were higher than average ahead of the high-demand Christmas-New Year break.

Asserting that the government can’t remain a mute spectator to the move by the air carriers, civil aviation minister Praful Patel said there can be “no justification” for airlines to hike fares in an “arbitrary manner”.

High alert in Telangana as Maoists make a comeback

Hyderabad, December 03: Police went on high alert in north Telangana on Friday as Maoists returned to the region after lying low for several years, killing three people and abducting another three since Thursday.

Police forces, including personnel of the elite anti-Maoist Greyhounds, began combing operations on Friday in Eturanagaram forests of Warangal district and also in Karimnagar, where the extremists made their presence felt by killing three people, including a small-time political functionary by branding him a police spy.

Minor boys, girls caught smoking at hookah bar

Hyderabad, December 03: Hookah centres allowing minors to enjoy a smoke have now come under the scanner of city police. Police caught 18 minors, including a couple of girls on Thursday at a hookah centre, enjoying a puff. A case has been booked against the management of the hookah centre. All nabbed youngsters are kin of top businessmen, doctors and a politician and they had bunked college to enjoy a hookah session, police said.

Resignation of Jagan from Lok Sabha accepted

New Delhi, December 03: The resignation of rebel Congress MP from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh, YS Jaganmohan Reddy has been accepted, Speaker Meira Kumar announced in the Lok Sabha on Friday.

Kumar said Reddy’s resignation has been accepted with effect from November 29.

“I have to inform the House that I have received a letter dated November 29 from YS Jaganmohan Reddy, an elected member from Kadapa parliamentary constituency of Andhra Pradesh resigning from the membership of the Lok Sabha. I have accepted his resignation with effect from November 29,” she said.

‘3,000 houses in way of Metro rail’

Hyderabad, November 03: Before taking up the prestigious Rs 12,132 crore Hyderabad Metro Rail project, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has started preliminary works like carrying out topographical survey on the Miyapur to LB Nagar corridor.

The Metro is expected to handle 15 lakh passengers every day in 2014 and 22 lakh in 2024.

A few months ago, L&T took up soil testing from Nagole to Shilparamam corridor.

Abdul Nasser Madani’s case committed to sessions court for trial

Bangalore, December 03:PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial bomb blasts case, would now stand trial before the sessions court.

The first additional chief metropolitan magistrate Venkatesh Hulagi today passed the order committing the case to session court.

The ACMM court also furnished copies of the chargesheet to the 19 accused arrested, including Madani.

Madani was arrested from his orphanage-cum-madrasa in Anwarassery in Kerala on August 17 and subsequently brought to Bangalore.

The blasts in July, 2008 left one dead and 20 others injured.

Saudi King to undergo more surgery in US

Riyadh, December 03: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah is to undergo more surgery on his back in US on Friday, the royal court said.

King Abdullah flew to New York City on November 22 and was operated on two days later at New York Presbyterian Hospital for a debilitating herniated disc complicated by a haematoma that put pressure on his spine.

The court had said that the first operation was a success and that the King walked on his own inside the hospital shortly afterwards.
