Mumbai, August 29: Pair of Parvati Singhal and Kapil Sharma pipped famed comedy couple Krishna and Sudesh Lahiri to bag the Comedy Circus Ke Superstar title.

The Pratigya girl ‘Parvati’ and Kapil defeated best pair of the Sony’s Comedy Circus ke superstar to become Comedy king.

Parvati and Kapil overwhelmed the judges with their act and received praises for their unprecedented humour. The duo received 10 out 10 points from the judges.

Ali Asgar also managed to grab third place in the stand-up comedy show.

Volcano erupts in Indonesia

Indonesia, August 29: For the first time in 400 years, a volcano erupted on the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Sunday.

The volcano shoots black smoke and ash up to 1,500 metres into the air and thousands of residents evacuated.

Mount Sinabung in the Karo district of North Sumatra province thundered to life shortly after midnight, shooting lava and other volcanic materials from its crater.

It was a sigh of relief for Suresh Kalmadi and Delhi government when renowned Music Director AR Rahman launched the Commonwealth Games Theme Song ‘Swagatham’.

In a gala ceremony at Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon, Rahman crooned “Hey-o, khelo jeeyo, let’s go… yaaro India bula liya”.

The CWG 2010 theme song had been downloaded thousands of times just after its inauguration on Saturday evening.

Match fixing ghost returns to haunt Pak cricket

Islamabad, August 29: Match fixing ghost once again returned to haunt the Pakistan cricket.

As many as seven Pakistani players, including skipper Salman Butt are under scanner following arrest of a bookie by British Police.

Acting on a sting operation conducted by a leading British tabloid, police arrested a fixer Mazhar Majeed on suspicion of match fixing in the last Test against England at Lords.

According to the English tabloid, Pakistani pacer Md Aamer and Md Asif blatantly delivered three no balls.

Govt offers cash to Naxals who surrender

New Delhi, August 29: Having achieved limited success in defeating the Maoists militarily, the government is now dangling attractive monetary rewards to those Naxalites who are willing to surrender with arms.

The Centre has asked Maoist-affected states to draw surrender policies similar to the one announced by it about a year ago that includes a package of nearly Rs two lakh if the Naxalite comes with arms.

Woman, her father, brother get lifer for killing her husband

New Delhi, August 29: A Delhi court has sentenced a woman, her father and one of her brothers to life imprisonment for killing her businessman husband in 2005 to avoid returning Rs 10 lakh borrowed from him. Additional Sessions Judge Virender Kumar Goyal also imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 each on Anju Verma, her father Purushottam Lal and her brother Baljinder Singh after holding them guilty of murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence under the IPC.

CP asked to probe officials for misleading HC on Sharma parole

New Delhi, August 29: The Delhi High Court has directed the city Police Commissioner to conduct a probe against some department officials for misleading the court on a parole plea of former Youth Congress leader Sushil Sharma, sentenced to death for killing his wife Naina Sahani 15 years ago.

The court took strong objection to the stand taken by a senior police officer who had favoured parole for Sharma which was contradictory to the stand of Delhi government which had rejected the plea of the former leader.

Azad wasn’t killed at point blank range: AP police

Hyderabad, August 29: The Andhra Pradesh police has denied that Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad was killed at point blank range.

Andhra Pradesh police chief R.R. Girish Kumar denied on Saturday that Azad was killed in a stage-managed gunfight and termed it as a “real and genuine” one.

Karachi, August 29: Pakistan cricket has been once again rocked by fixing scandal with team management in England confirming that some players were under investigation by Scotland Yard for having taken bribes for spot-fixing in the ongoing Lords Test.

“Scotland Yard detectives had visited the team hotel where they had taken statements of captain Salman Butt, fast bowlers Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Aamir, and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal,” Pakistan team manager, Yawar Saeed told PTI from London.

About which the actress says that since she has done no films in India it’s hard for people to accept her as an actress. She believes that they either don’t really know who she is or probably don’t take her too seriously.

As per government, police informers are paid for their daredevilry but the out of nowhere police has raised a bogus informer in the name of Amitabh Bachchan that says he is getting details about Maoists’ activities.

The Secret Service Fund scam involves Rs. 8 crore and million dollar name in it. The alleged scam was exposed in July by an informer who was made to receive payments under the assumed name of the megastar.

ACB raids teacher house, unearth unaccounted wealth

Nalgonda, August 29: Anti Corruption Bureau officials on Saturday conducted raids on the residence of a Secondary Grade Teacher after unearthed movable and immovable property worth around Rs one crore.

The ACB raids began after the agency was tipped off that the SGT, identified as Ravinder Reddy, has amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to ACB sleuths, the raids revealed that Ravinder Reddy owned four independent houses and eight flats in Hyderabad and Suryapet.

Ravinder Reddy is a resident of Kudukudua in Chivvemla mandal.

‘Cops killed Kargil braveheart in fake encounter’

Bhopal, August 29: A Congress leader has alleged that her husband Amjad Khan, a former Army jawan who had fought in the Kargil conflict, was killed by Madhya Pradesh Police in an alleged fake encounter for medals and promotions.

“My husband was killed in cold blood by the Bhind Police to get medals and promotions,” Yasmin Khan said at a press conference in presence of Congress leaders at party’s office in Bhopal on Friday evening.

Mumbai, August 29: Hema Malini’s daughter Esha Deol has shown her anger against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who has been alleged to have not paid her dues for the movie Darling. She has even filed a complaint against RGV for the same.

A friend of Esha was quoted saying that the actress waited for a long time for Ram Gopa Varma to clear the dues but he did not respond even after repeated reminders.

One year back, Esha also filed a complaint in the Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) and the filmmaker even did not reply to the letters from the association.

‘I joke that a big juicy steak is my beauty secret. But seriously, I love red meat. I was a vegan for a long time, and it nearly killed me. I found I was not getting enough nutrition,’ she said.
