Pak to send panel to India in 26/11 case

Islamabad, August 30: The Pakistan government is planning to form a commission that can visit India to record the statements of key witnesses and officials in connection with the Mumbai terror attacks.

“We will request the court to form a commission and that commission can go (to India) and record the statement of witnesses, including the magistrate and police officers who recorded the statement of (Ajmal) Kasab,” Malik told the reporters.

Kasab, the lone terrorist captured during the November 2008 attacks, has been sentenced to death by a court in Mumbai.

Mad Men, Modern Family takes top Emmys

Washington, August 30: The series “Modern Family”, a mockumentary about three Los Angeles families, won the prize for best TV comedy at the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards, held in Los Angeles on Sunday.

It was the third consecutive win for the 1960s advertising drama “Mad Men”, which charts the social changes of the 1960s through the prism of a New York advertising agency.

Curfew in parts of Kashmir

Srinagar, August 30: Curfew on Monday remained imposed in parts of Srinagar, Kupwara and Kralpora towns in view of the shutdown call by separatists across the Kashmir valley.

Restrictions were also imposed on the movement of people in Hyderpora and Budgam towns.

In Srinagar city, curfew was imposed in seven police station areas of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal, M R Gunj, Bemina and Qammerwari, police said.

SC issues notice to Ramalinga Raju

Hyderabad, August 30: The Supreme Court has issued notices to Ramalinga Raju after the CBI approached the apex court challenging the Satyam founder’s release on bail.

The Supreme Court has also served notices to Rama Raju, brother of Ramalinga Raju and former managing director of Satyam, and two other persons.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on August 18 granted bail to Ramalinga Raju, in a setback to the CBI’s efforts to nail him in the biggest corporate scam of the country.

‘Dabangg’ will prove lucky for Salman: Arbaaz

Mumbai, August 30: Bollywood actor, Arbaaz Khan, who turned producer with ‘Dabangg’, hopes that the character of ‘Chulbul Robinhood Pandey’ will prove lucky for brother Salman Khan.

The 44 year old actor, whose last hit film was ‘Wanted’, has not been lucky with his last three releases, ‘Main Aurr Mrs Khanna’, ‘London Dreams’ and ‘Veer’.

However, Arbaaz is confident that Salman will be able to recreate the magic of ‘Wanted’ through his production debut.

US: Israeli rabbi’s remarks offensive

Jerusalem, August 30: “We regret and condemn the inflammatory statements by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef,” US State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley said on Sunday.

“These remarks are not only deeply offensive, but incitement such as this hurts the cause of peace,” he added.

“As we move forward to re-launch peace negotiations, it is important that actions by people on all sides help to advance our effort, not hinder it,” Crowley said.

The 89-year-old Rabbi Ovadia Yosef denounced Palestinians as bitter enemies of Israel and called for all Palestinians to “perish from this world.”

Gadhafi gives lesson on Islam

Rome, August 30: Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi gave a lesson on Islam and copies of the Quran to a few hundred young Italian women as he arrived in Rome for his fourth visit in a year.

It was the second time the Libyan leader who travels with female bodyguards and fancies himself a self-styled feminist had staged such an event for Italian women, who were recruited by a modeling agency and paid an undisclosed sum to attend.

The global crime monitoring organisation has issued 656 red-alert notices against Indians or people of Indian origin in the past five years, generally for crimes committed in countries other than India.

A red alert or red corner notice obliges immigration and police forces of all member countries to arrest the concerned person and inform the authorities in his home country, or the country where the crime was committed.

Imam Abdul Rauf, who is heading plans to build a Muslim community centre near the site of attacks of 9/11 attacks in New York, asked the followers of all faiths to join hands against radicalism which he says exists in all religions.

Non-local candidates targeted again

Hyderabad, August 30: In Hyderabad The Telangana issue has erupted again, with some students of the Osmania University (OU) chasing away lecturers from outside Telangana region off the varsity campus.

The students insisted they should not participate in the evaluation of BEd answer sheets.

The OU student’s Joint Action Committee (JAC) staged a protest at the campus and gave an hour’s notice to lecturers from other regions to leave the campus.

After the deadline expired, the students beat up one lecturer and chased away three others.

Man eater squids devouring fish stock in Pacific

London, August 30: Millions of giant squids have been devouring fish stock and attacking humans in the Pacific Ocean, causing potential threat to marine ecosystem.
