Mumbai, August 31: Katrina may have back out from a film when she realised that Priyanka has got the meatier role to play sometime in past, but when it came to paying homage to the King of the pop, the two forgot all the rivalries and are looking forward to do an album together for Ganesh Hegde.

Choreographer Ganesh Hegde has performed for the opening act of the legendary Michael Jackson’s History tour in Mumbai in 1996 and now he is all set to celebrate 52nd birth anniversary of the King of Pop’s. Apart from the warring babes, the album also features Hrithik Roshan.

‘Tehran reactor fuel ready in a year’

Tehran, August 31: He also stressed the country’s need for 20 percent-enriched uranium required for civilian purposes and noted that Iran has been forced to produce 20 percent-enriched uranium for medical and therapeutic purposes, IRNA reported him as saying on Monday.

Aravind Rao appointed new DGP

Hyderabad, August 31: The state government on Monday appointed Senior IPS officer Aravind Rao as Director General of Police.

According to sources, the government appointed Aravind Rao as new DGP of the state as the present DGP R R Girish Kumar is set to retire on August 31.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Monday issued orders in this connection. Mr Aravind Rao is likely to take charge on Tuesday.

Mr Aravind Rao is presently serving as the Anti Corruption Bureau Director General.

A 1977 batch IPS officer, Mr Arvind Rao has good track record in the police department.

SI killed in road mishap

Vijayawada, August 31: A Sub-Inspector of police was killed in an unfortunate road accident which occurred at Kesara in Krishna district on Monday.

According to reports, Sub-Inspector D Karthik attached to Kolcharam police station in Medak district was travelling in an Indica when it hit a tree and turned turtle.

Another person, as yet unidentified, was left injured in the mishap.

The reason behind the mishap appears to be that the driver lost control over the vehicle. Passersby informed the police who reached the spot and shifted the victims to hospital.

ACB raids Revenue Inspector, DA over Rs 3 cr unearthed

Hyderabad, August 31: Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths on Monday conducted raids on the residences of the Hyderabad Estate Office Special Revenue Inspector and unearthed assets worth over Rs 3 crore from the official.

According to reports, the ACB sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on the Estate Officer Akbar Ali Khan’s residence in Nampally and also at his office in Khairtabad.

These raids were conducted simultaneously, officials recovered illegal property worth more than Rs 3 corer in their raids.

Rameshwar Rao elected HMWSSB EA chief

Hyderabad, August 31: G Rameshwar Rao was declared elected as president of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Engineers Association and Mr D Nagabhushanam as his deputy in the elections which were held on Sunday.

According to a statement released by the HMWSSB EA, Mr Rameshwar Rao garnered 163 votes while Mr Nagabushanam gathered 140 votes.

The elections, held within HMWSSB premises saw T Naveen Reddy with 150 votes and MB Praveen Kumar with 158 votes being elected as the other vice-presidents.

Jaganmohan will not leave party: Mekapati

Guntur, August 31: Narasaraopet Member of Parliament Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy on Monday said that he did not foresee any possibility of Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy leaving the Congress party and forming his own splinter party.

Sec 144 imposed in Chirala over YSR statue installation

Ongole, August 31: Police on Monday imposed section 144 in Chirala Town in Prakasam district following the dispute over the installation of a statue of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on government land.

According to sources, police have arrested 26 supporters of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Sunday when they tried to install the statue on a government land in Chirala town.

Chirala police also arrested one Ravi Kumar alias Jinda, a rowdy-sheeter for attempting suicide over the issue.

The arrests were made as they violated the prohibitory orders in force, police said.

BJP disrupts RS over ‘CBI misuse’

Ahmedabad, August 31: Revisiting the issue of “misuse of the CBI”, the BJP on Monday disrupted the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha, briefly demanding a discussion in the light of senior Gujarat IPS officer Geeta Johri’s claims that the agency was “pressurising” her to name some top political leaders in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.

As soon as the House met, Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley demanded a discussion on the “functioning of the CBI and the entire politicisation of that functioning”. Congress members, led by Praveen Rashtrapal, immediately objected to the demand.

Law for SCs, STs could be strengthened: PC

New Delhi, August 31: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday called for institutionalising of oversight mechanisms at the grassroots level to prevent atrocities against Dalits and tribals even as he asserted that laws dealing with the issue could be strengthened. Responding to a debate on increasing atrocities against SCs and STs in the Lok Sabha, he said regular monthly meetings on the specific issue between the SP, DM, Public Prosecutor and judges of lower judiciary would go a long way in curbing such crimes.

Former minister attacked in UP

Uttar Pradesh, August 30: Samajwadi Party leader and former UP minister Amir Alam Khan escaped unhurt when some unidentified persons fired at his residence here in the wee hours on Monday.

The assailants, who came in a car, fired five rounds at the house located in Nazar Colony at around 0200 hours, police said.

The bullets shattered window panes of the house with some of these getting planted in the walls of Khan’s bedroom, they said.

Khan fired from his licensed pistol at the attackers forcing them to flee.

Maoists released kidnapped BDO

Muzaffarpur, August 30: Block Development Officer (BDO) of Tariyani in Sheohar district, Manoj Singh was today released by the Maoists, a top district police officer said.

Singh was freed by the ultras at an isolated place near Turkey village on NH-30 in Muzaffarpur district this evening, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinod Kumar said.

The BDO was hale and hearty, he added.

Singh was kidnapped by armed Maoists from Ladhoura village in the district yesterday where he had gone to supervise preparation of election photo identity card.

Rupee ends 2 paise lower V dollar

Mumbai, August 30: The Indian rupee pared early gains to end 2 paise lower at 46.91/92 against the US dollar today, despite dollar weakness overseas, on month-end demand for the American currency from importers.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the domestic unit opened strong at 46.76/77 a dollar from last weekend’s close of 46.89/90 and touched a high of 46.75.

However, it later dropped to a low of 46.93 before settling the day at 46.91/92.

Nuclear bill passed in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, August 30: The nuclear liability bill has been given green signal by the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Minister of State for Science and Technology Prithviraj Chavan said nuclear power was not a panacea for India’s energy needs but it was an option which could not be ignored.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reiterated that it will support the bill.

“Nuclear energy is not a panacea, but it is an option which we cannot afford to overlook,” said Chavan.

The Lok Sabha passed the bill with 18 amendments Aug 25, with near unanimity.
