Mother, 6 kids killed in Somali violence

Mogadishu, August 27: A mother and her six sons were caught in the crossfire and killed on Thursday, brining the death toll in Mogadishu to over 100 since fighting broke out on Monday.

Another 15 people were injured as the two sides exchanged heavy artillery and mortar fire near the Bakara market, where many businesses have decided to close shops.

The latest wave of bloodshed claimed 31 lives on Tuesday alone after al-Shabab fighters stormed a hotel near the presidential palace in Mogadishu.

Tehran, August 27: “Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is a victory for Iran and indicates that Iranians do their best to achieve their peaceful objectives but the US and Israel are not ready to accept this achievement”, said Lt. General Hamid Gul in an interview with Iran’s Fars News Agency.

Gyaneshwari Exp disaster: Key suspect killed in encounter

Jhargram, August 27: Top Maoist leader a key suspect in the Gyaneshwari Express train disaster, Umakanto Mahato, has been killed by joint forces in West Bengal’s Jhargram district.

Mahato was killed in an overnight encounter at Mohanpur forest, about 30 km from Jhargram.

He was a leader of Maoist-backed People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) and was wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Gyaneshwari Express accident.

Ekta Injured After Fall In a Mumbai Pothole

Mumbai, August 27: TV soap queen Ekta Kapoor has cracked her wristbone, rendering her right hand usable for the time being. She fell into a pothole in Mumbai, says a media report.

On Tuesday morning, the report said, Ekta was jogging near her home in Juhu alongwith her bodyguards in tow, when, trying to jump over a bigger pothole, she tripped on the rubble and injured her right hand which took the entire weight of her fall.

7 year old girl raped & murdered

Karimangar, August 27: In a bizarre incident, a seven-year-old girl was raped and murdered in the Jayaprakash Nagar of Sircilla in the district.

According to the police, the victim Kaveri, daughter of Vasanta and Padmanabham, living in the colony was found missing since Wednesday evening. When their searches failed, they complained to the police, with the help of the media on Thursday morning.

Visakhapatnam, August 27: As expected, Praja Rajyam Party functionaries on Thursday unanimously re-elected K Chiranjeevi as party president at the ongoing plenary session in the port city.

Hyderabad, August 27: Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas on Thursday stated that the party would observe the first death anniversary of former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy at all district headquarters on a grand scale.

Talking to media persons after reviewing the arrangements being made for the first death anniversary of the former chief minister at Gandhi Bhavan with party workers, Mr Srinivas said that the party would observe the solemn occasion at 10.30 am on September 2 at the party headquarters.

According to the South Central Railways, the Falaknuma-Lingampalli MMTS train was among the 21 ‘Matribhoomi Trains’ ladies specials introduced by Union Railways Minister Mamata Bannerjee during her Railway Budget for the financial year 2010-11.

Govt seeks NDRF teams over possible floods

Hyderabad, August 27: In view of the deteriorating flood situation in the state, the Disaster Management Commissioner on Thursday requested the National Disaster Management Authority to send two NDRF teams to the state as a precautionary measure.

PM to lay foundation stone for BHEL-NTPC JV on Sept 1

New Delhi, August 27: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will formally lay the foundation stone for the BHEL-NTPC joint venture at Mannavaram in Chittoor on September.

Sources said that the Prime Minister’s schedule has been finalized after being postponed many times due to various reasons.

Mr Manmohan Singh will visit Tirumala on the morning of September 1 and offer special puja to Lord Venkateswara before proceeding to Mannavaram.

He would then lay the foundation stone for the for the BHEL-NTPC joint venture project to manufacture electrical equipment.

Pathans family told to comply with court orders

Gandhinagar, August 27: The Gujarat High Court Thursday directed the family of cricketers Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan to hand over possession of a disputed property to their tenant.

The court said it will hear Pathans’ plea only after they comply with a trial court’s order to restore the possession of the property to the tenant, allegedly evicted forcibly May 7.

The present petition was filed by the cricketer’s mother Shamimbanu Pathan challenging Vadodara Sessions Court’s order which directed her to entrust the possession of a property in Tanishk Complex to tenant, Kalpana Rochani.
