The details about the bride are not yet known. But it is an arranged marriage for Bollywood’s resident Casanova who in his words, likes to flirt with anyone in a skirt. Vivek’s bride-to-be has been chosen by his parents Suresh and Yashodhara.

CBI arrests three for cheating bank

Mumbai, August 02: Three persons were arrested here by the CBI for allegedly cheating a nationalised bank to the tune of Rs ten crore by producing forged Letters of Credit (LC). Those arrested are Anoop Roy, Director of Krishna Corporate Services Pvt Ltd, Akhilesh Pandey, Proprietor of Meroo Polymers and Satish Pujari, Director of Micro Bit Associates Pvt Ltd, CBI said.

300,000 without water in China

China, August 02: Pipelines damaged due to floods in Tonghua city in China’s Jilin province left 300,000 people without water in the city .

According to Wang Ruimin, head of the public utility bureau in Tonghua, four water pipelines had been damaged since Sunday, cutting water supply to the whole city.

Wang said the bureau has mobilised 300 workers to repair the pipelines, but no deadline could be given as to when water supply would be resumed. He said flood water had gushed into Tonghua’s water plant at the Changliu reservoir after a section of the embankment was breached Saturday.

Iran warns Israel against waging war

Tehran, August 02: Iran’s foreign minister has warned the Zionist regime of Israel and its allies against waging a war in the Middle East, saying any possible war in the region will not be ‘limited.’

Manouchehr Mottaki told the Iranian Arabic language satellite channel Al-Alam late Sunday that certain moves and threats by the Zionist regime against Lebanon and Syria indicate Tel Aviv intends to launch a war in the region, reported Fars News Agency.

“If Israel and its supporters wage such a war, they will have made a big mistake,” the top Iranian diplomat added.

Murder case registered in killing of wife of UP BJP leader

Muzaffarnagar, August 02: An FIR has been lodged here against unidentified assailants in the alleged murder of Revati Singh, wife of senior BJP leader Hukkum Singh, police said Sunday.

The body of Revati (75), wife of BJP deputy leader in Uttar Pradesh Assembly Hukkum Singh, was found in the bedroom of her Gandhi Colony house yesterday and circumstantial evidence indicated that she was murdered, Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal had said.

Hukum Singh, an MLA from Kairana, was in Lucknow at the time of incident.

CBI Denied Transfer Of Shorabuddin Case Outside Guj

Ahmedabad, August 02: The CBI said on Monday it had not asked the Supreme Court to shift the controversial Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case outside Gujarat in its probe status report, an issue that had drawn a sharp reaction from Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“We have not asked the Supreme Court to transfer the (Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter) case outside Gujarat in the status report submitted by us,” senior CBI lawyer K.T.S. Tulsi told a court during the hearing of bail plea of former Gujarat minister Amit Shah in the case.

Newly-elected TRS legislators take oath

Hyderabad, August 02: Eleven legislators of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), who were elected in the by-polls last week, Monday took oath as members of the Andhra Pradesh assembly.

Assembly Speaker N. Kirankumar Reddy administered them the oath in the assembly premises. Earlier, the legislators paid tributes to ‘martyrs’ of Telangana at Gun Park in front of the assembly building.

Somali pirates hijack Panama-flagged cargo ship-EU

Somalia, August 02: Pirates hijacked the Panama-flagged MV Suez cargo vessel with 23 crew on board early on Monday, the European Union naval force said.

EU Navfor said in a statement that the 17,300 tonne ship carrying cement bags came under small arms fire while sailing in a recommended shipping lane. It said the crew were from Egypt, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India.

The London-headquartered International Maritime Bureau said its piracy reporting centre in Kuala Lumpur logged a total of 196 pirate incidents globally from January to June 2010.

10 cops suspended, five others held for attacks on lovebirds

Raipur, August 02: The Chhattisgarh government suspended 10 policemen Monday, a day after several girls and boys were attacked by activists of Hindu right wing group Dharma Sena opposed to Friendship Day celebrations in capital Raipur. Five people have been arrested.

The decision was announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the assembly amid an opposition protest over the issue.

One more arrested in Kerala lecturer attack case

Aluva, August 02: One more activist of radical outfit Popular Front of India has been arrested in connection with the July 4 attack on a lecturer, whose hand was chopped off for allegedly preparing an inflammatory question paper.

With this, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to 14.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the attack, arrested 38-year-old K M Ali from Mulavoor near Muvattupuzha Sunday.

Rockets hit Israel and Jordan ports; 4 hurt in Aqaba

Jerusalem, August 02: A suspected short-range rocket salvo from the Egyptian Sinai, an area where Islamist militants have operated in the past, struck Israel’s and Jordan’s Red Sea ports on Monday, Israeli police said.

A Jordanian Interior Ministry source said four civilians were injured, one seriously, when a rocket hit an hotel area in its port of Aqaba.

There was no word of casualties in the Israeli port of Eilat, police said, but a source at Jordan’s Interior Ministry said four civilians had been injured in its city of Aqaba.

Dhaka Islamist leaders jailed for 1971 `war crimes’

Dhaka, August 02: A tribunal Monday ordered that four top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) be jailed in connection with the “war crimes” committed during Bangladesh’s 1971 freedom movement.

This was the first ruling given by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal that is trying Islamist militants accused of rape, loot and murder of thousands of unarmed civilians in the run-up to the movement that led to separation from Pakistan.

Permanent commission for women being mulled: Indian Army

New Delhi, August 02: The government Monday told the Supreme Court that it would consider giving permanent commission to women officers serving as short service commission officers in the legal and education branches of the Indian Army.

The government has sought two months time to implement its undertaking.

An apex court bench headed by Justice J.M. Panchal stayed the contempt proceedings against the defence ministry arising out of a Delhi High Court verdict directing the grant of permanent commission to women officers in the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.

Bombay HC defers Kasab’s case to Aug 12

Mumbai, August 02: The verdict of the trial court awarding death sentence to Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 terror attack case came up Monday for confirmation before the Bombay High Court which adjourned the matter to August 12.

Justices Ranjana Desai and Vijaya Tahilramani deferred the matter after public prosecutor Pandurang Pol informed that the state would file an appeal within a week against the acquittal of Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Shaikh in the same case.

New Delhi, August 02: The week-long impasse in Parliament over price rise ended Monday with the opposition giving up its demand for voting and agreeing to pass a resolution after discussion expressing concern over the issue in both Houses.

As per the consensus reached at an all-party breakfast meeting convened by Leader of the House in Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee, the Lower House will discuss the issue tomorrow. This will be followed by Speaker Meira Kumar reading out a resolution expressing “sense of the House” on the price rise issue.
