Mumbai, February 27: There is no romantic angle to the movie “Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, ” award-winning actress Konkona Sen Sharma says about her new film.

“Though Ajay and I play the role of a married couple in the film, there is no romantic angle; it’s about the comedy that happens while trying to get relief from a person who comes as a guest and shows no signs of leaving, ” said Konkona after the music launch of “Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?” here.

Ashish Chaudhary goes off alcohol, sweets

Mumbai, February 27: Actor Ashish Chaudhary, best known for his comic roles, says he has stayed away from unhealthy food and drinks for two months.

“Two whole months of no alcohol, no carbohydrates, no sweets, no Diet Cokes…and it continues. The body feels like a temple, ” Ashish posted on Twitter.

Ashish was seen in films like “Daddy Cool”, “EMI” and “Dhamaal”.

Mumbai, February 27: Oscar-winning British actor-filmmaker Ben Kingsley is all praise for Indian women directors Nandita Das and Leena Yadav. But he now wants to make his own film in India instead of doing more Bollywood movies.

“I’d like to make a film of my own in India, (but) you are not going to see me in a mainstream Bollywood film, ” Kingsley, 66, who stars as a mathematical genius in Yadav’s “Teen Patti”, told over phone from London.

PCB boss says none of the present national players involved in match fixing

Karachi, February 27: With reports of wicket keeper Kamran Akmal’s involvement in match fixing already making Pakistani media abuzz, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt dropped another bombshell, saying that at least two national players are suspected of match fixing.

It would be “foolish to say that no match-fixing takes place,” Butt said, talking to media persons during a press conference.

Police seek 26/11 court nod to dispose of seized RDX

Mumbai, February 27: Police have sought permission from a special court to dispose of around 24 kgs of RDX recovered from the 26/11 target terror target spots.

“We have made an application seeking to dispose of the RDX but the court is yet to pass an order on our plea,” Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said.

The RDX was recovered from three unexploded IEDs — one outside Taj Mahal Hotel, another near Gokul Restaurant and the third from an unclaimed baggage at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).

The seized explosive was placed before the court as evidence.

PM Manmohan Singh to leave for Saudi Arabia today

New Delhi, February 27: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will leave for Saudi Arabia on Saturday on a three-day visit at the invitation of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz.

During his three-day visit from February 27 to March 1, Dr Singh will be accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur.

Other members of the Prime Minister’s delegation will include Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora, Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor and a number of senior officials.

Fire mishap on INS Sindhurakshak due to explosion in battery

New Delhi, February 27: The fire mishap on INS Sindhurakshak in Visakhapatnam that left a sailor dead and two others injured was caused by an explosion in its battery compartment, Navy officials said here on Saturday.

Sindhurakshak, a Russian-origin Kilo class submarine, was in the Visakhapatnam harbour for a routine maintenance when the mishap occurred last evening.

“It was due to a defective battery and Leading Electrical Technician Kump Dand was killed,” the official said.

Merseyside, February 27: Let alone facing verbal attacks over their headscarf, female Muslim students in Liverpool are denied bus drives for wearing hijab, reported.

“They should not push their own personal prejudices on young people,” Amina Ismail, a Muslim community leader, said.

Ismail said hijab-clad students at West Derby’s Holly Lodge Girls’ College in Merseyside are being insulted by racists at bus stops over their headscarf.

Family killed in road mishap

Kurukshetra, February 27: Four persons of a family, including a three-year-old girl and two women, were killed and 12 others injured when an auto rickshaw, in which they were travelling, hit a truck on the Ladwa-Shahbad road, police said today The deceased have been identified as Palak(3), Bimala, Nattho and Parameshwar (45) who hailed from Sherpur village in Karnal district. They were returning from Bahlolpur near Ladwa, 30 kms from here, when the incident occurred last night, they said.

The injured have been hospitalized.

Special plane to fly back bodies from Kabul

New Delhi, February 27: India on Saturday sent a special aircraft to Afghanistan to bring back bodies of its nationals, including Army officials, who were killed in suicide attacks in Kabul on Friday.

A Boeing 737-200 aircraft from the Palam-based Communication squadron took off from here today to bring back all dead bodies and those injured, IAF officials said here. The aircraft is carrying a team of medical officers and medicines.

February 27: India’s most celebrated artist Maqbool Fida Husain, who has been under attack from sections of the Hindu right, has accepted Qatar’s offer of an honorary citizenship as having a “sense of belonging” was important at this stage of his life, said his son Owais Husain, who added that his father “missed home in India terribly”.

SC asks AP to explain deployment of ‘Greyhounds’ in Osmania

New Delhi, February 27: The Supreme Court today sought an explanation from the Andhra Pradesh government as to why it had deployed the elite anti-Naxalite force ‘Greyhounds’ to quell the students’ unrest in Osmania university, the hotbed of Telangana statehood agitation.

A bench of Justices G S Singhvi and Asok Kumar Ganguly also constituted a three-member committee comprising the state home secretary, Hyderabad police commissioner and the vice chancellor of the university to review on a day-to-day basis the atmosphere in and around the campus.

Mali Prophet Celebration Turns Deadly

Bamako, February 27: A deadly stampede crushed at least 26 people to death during a celebration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) at a famed mosque in Mali’s northwestern desert city of Timbuktu.

“There were 26 killed and 40 wounded,” Interior Ministry spokesman Oumar Sangare told Reuters by phone.

Local police earlier had said 15 died and 41 were injured.

The stampede occurred as thousands of Muslims celebrated Mouloud (Prophet’s birthday) at Timbuktu’s oldest Djingareyber mosque.

India, Saudi Arabia to deepen ties during PM visit

New Delhi, February 27: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh leaves for Saudi Arabia Saturday on a three-day visit during which the two countries will deepen their strategic relationship, officials here said Friday.

‘The visit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders (Manmohan Singh and Saudi king Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz) to review bilateral relations and discuss regional and global issues,’ Lalitha Reddy, secretary (east) in the external affairs ministry, said here.

Militants kill 13 in Philippines

Zamboanga City, February 27: Thirteen people were killed and several injured Saturday when Muslim militants attacked a village in southern Philippines, a provincial police chief said.

About 70 Muslim Abu Sayyaf rebels swooped down at dawn on the village of Tubigan in Maluso town in Basilan province, 900 km south of Manila, Senior Superintendent Antonio Mendoza said.

‘The fatalities were one government militiaman and 12 civilians,’ he said.

Mumbai, February 27: Arjun Rampal flew to Delhi on Tuesday to see his close friend, designer Rohit Bal, who suffered a heart attack on Monday.

However, Rampal was not allowed to meet him. He apparently met the family and quietly returned.
Said Arjun, “I really don’t think I should talk about Gudda (that’s what Bal’s close friends call him). It’s a very difficult moment for the family and I am with them.”

Two women poachers nabbed with 130 tortoises

Lucknow, February 27: Two women were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district for poaching and around 130 tortoises recovered from their possession, police said Saturday.

The two women, who are in their mid 40s and hail from West Bengal, were nabbed Friday night near Etawah railway station.

19 dead, 50 injured as fireworks trigger blast in south China

Beijing, February 27: At least 19 people have been killed and 50 injured in an explosion triggered by fireworks in south China’s Guangdong province.

The explosion occurred when a family set off firecrackers in front of their house Friday. The flame ignited other fireworks on the ground and caused a huge explosion, Xinhua news agency Saturday quoted a witness Yang, whose house is located about 200 meters from the scene.

Bodies of 13 people were discovered from the spot Friday night while six others died in hospital later, the news agency reported.

Police stop Shahid Kapur’s b’day party due to loud music

Mumbai, February 27: Actor Shahid Kapur’s birthday bash on Thursday morning was interrupted by policemen.

The manager was booked for playing loud music beyond the stipulated time.

The police sources said the party was organised in Esco bar on Linking Road. Shahid was celebrating his 29th birthday and the party was attended by Shahid’s family members and friends apart form many film personalities and celebrities, the sources continued.

When it continued till 3 am, the residents informed the police control room about the loud music being played.
