Mumbai, December 07: Genelia is currently in Chennai shooting for a South Film. So she couldn’t make it to the premiere of Abhishek Bachchan’s recent release.

However, that didn’t stop Gen from watching the film. On her day off yesterday, she caught the film in a theatre in Chennai.

Peshawar hit again, at least 2 killed

Peshawar, December 07: Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar shook again on Monday with an explosion in a vehicle near a crowded court complex in the heart of the city, killing two people and wounding 20.

Witnesses said the blast occurred in an auto-rickshaw outside the sessions court complex on Jail Road in Peshawar. About 20 people were injured in the attack, six of them seriously.

Police cordoned off the area and sealed key roads as ambulances took the injured to nearby hospitals.

Authorities are still investigating the nature of the blast.

Kareena Kapoor banks on ‘3 Idiots’ after flop Kurbaan

Mumbai, December 07: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has said that she was not disappointed with the poor performance of ‘Kurbaan’ at the box office.

An elated Kareena said that she is positively looking ahead and she hopes her forthcoming flick Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ will compensate the loss.

A confident Kareena believes that ‘3 Idiots’ will be a hit one at the box office.

AP CM; RLD President meet KCR at NIMS

Hyderabad, December 07: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah tonight met Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhara Rao (KCR) at the Intensive Care Unit of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in an attempt to diffuse the volatile situation as the fast entered in the eight day.

Accompanying Mr Rosaiah in the late night visit was Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) President Ajith Singh who is reportedly close to TRS President.

Riots erupt in Greece

Athens, December 07: Police fired teargas at rioters who threw rocks and firecrackers in central Athens as thousands gathered to mark the first anniversary of the police shooting of a teenager.

Clashes broke out as about 3,000 people, mostly students, anarchists and leftists, began a march to parliament. More protests were expected on Monday. An evening memorial service was planned in the Exarchia district, where 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos was shot dead.

Main accused in Kandhamal gang rape held

Bhubaneswar, December 07: The main accused in the gang rape of a nun in Orissa’s Kandhamal district during last year’s communal clashes has been arrested, police said on Monday.

“We have arrested Gururam Patra from Dharampur area of the district Sunday evening,” investigating officer B.K. Mohanty told IANS.

Youth shouting Jai Telangana slogan jumps from train, overrun

Hyderabad, December 07: It was a tragedy of a different kind at the Jangoan railway station, about 80 km from here in Warangal district, where a youth who jumped from a train shouting Jai Telangana was overrun by a passing train.

The youth, who is yet to be identified, had jumped from Krishna Express shouting Jai Telangana and fallen on the second track.

He was overrun by the AP Express coming on the second track on electric traction and was killed on the spot. Investigation is on. A TRS activist committed suicide by hanging himself at his home near Sanga Reddy is Medak district.

U.S. said leaving Iraq millions of dollars of gear

Baghdad, December 07: U.S. commanders are donating up to $30 million worth of passenger vehicles, generators and gear to Iraq from each facility they leave, as they scale back deployments, up from a previous cap of $2 million, the Washington Post reported in its Monday editions.

The new limit applies at scores of posts that the U.S. military is expected to quit as it leaves about 280 facilities for six large bases and a few small ones by the end of next summer, the Post said.

Taiwan president orders review after poll losses

Taiwan, December 07: Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, a propoenent of closer ties with China, ordered a review of weekend local election results that saw his party lose support as his own approval ratings fell, the party said on Monday.

Ma’s Nationalist Party (KMT) lost a county east of the capital to the anti-China opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Once robust support thinned in other cities and counties that voted in the first mid-term elections since the president took office in 2008.

Iranian police surround university to prevent protest

Tehran, December 07: Iranian riot police have surrounded Tehran University to prevent the opposition from hijacking a state-organised rally on Monday, a witness said.

“There are hundreds of riot police, (they are) everywhere around Tehran University and nearby streets,” said the witness, who asked not to be named.

Kasab trial to get over within a week

Mumbai, December 07: The 26/11 Mumbai terror attack trial is expected to be wrapped up within a week, with only 35 formal witnesses remained to be examined in the case in which Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab and two others are charged with killing 166 people.

Of the total 331 formal witnesses, whose affidavits were submitted to the court recently, the evidence of 296 persons was led this week,” Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told PTI.

Three injured in Metro site mishap

New Delhi, December 07: In yet another mishap involving the Delhi Metro, three labourers were injured after they fell off an elevated platform at the under-construction station in Govindpuri in south Delhi.

Acting swift after the mishap, the DMRC ordered an internal inquiry into the incident that took place late last night at the Govindpuri station, which is part of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur line.

The three workers, who were placing ‘shuttering plates’ on the raised platform inside the station, fell from the platform around 11 pm last night, DMRC sources said.

Gas leak kills two in Indore

Indore, December 07: Two employees of a drug manufacturing company here were killed and six others took ill after inhaling poisonous gas leaked from the production unit.

The incident took place at Rinilife Science Private Ltd in the city’s industrial area on Sanver road late on Saturday night, police said, adding the gas leaked in the production unit of the company.

The deceased were identified as Subhash Pal (28) and Dinesh Borana (30), police said today. The two died on the spot, they said.

Rahul Gandhi on two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, December 07: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi begins his two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh Monday to boost the membership drive undertaken to re-activate the youth wing of the party.

Gandhi commences his journey from Aligarh, where he will also visit the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He then proceeds to Etah and Hardoi where he hopes to spend the night.

On Tuesday, he would visit Lakhimpur-Kheri, Bahraich, Ambedkar Nagar and Sitapur.

PM arrives in Russia for arms, nuclear deals

New Delhi, December 07: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Moscow on Sunday to ink billions of dollars of weapons deals and for talks on a landmark nuclear deal that could significantly widen atomic fuel imports from Russia.

India, along with China, is one of Russia’s biggest clients for arms sales but New Delhi has been upset in recent years by long delays in the delivery of a refurbished Soviet-era aircraft carrier under a $1.6 billion contract.

India, Nepal to resume military cooperation

Kathmandu, December 07: India has agreed to resume military cooperation with Nepal, which was suspended following the 2005 takeover of power by former King Gyanendra, besides providing training to Nepalese security personnel as part of efforts to step up defence cooperation.

Nepal and India also agreed to share intelligence and to cooperate on constructing an airbase for the Nepalese Army in western Nepal, at the three-day joint-secretary level meeting that concluded here yesterday.

FBI team in India with information on Headley, Rana 26/11 links

New Delhi, December 07: A Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team arrived in India on a two-day visit with information on Pakistan-born suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Rana presently in US custody.

“Investigations are on in the matter. The FBI team is here and we have been assured of all cooperation from the US,” External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said on the sidelines of the India-Africa Hydrocarbon Conference here.

Pro-Taliban militants kill 2 tribal elders in Bajaur

Bajaur, December 07: A bomb blast in Pakistan’s tribal district of Bajaur has left at least two anti-militant elders dead and two others wounded amid rising militancy.

The incident happened on Sunday outside a mosque in Malangi village, which was the focus of a recent army operation against the pro-Taliban militants.

Both tribesmen are said to have been respected elders who spoke out against militancy in the region.

The attack comes two days after forty people died when militants targeted worshippers attending Friday prayers in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.
