Hawn proud to see Hudson dance in new movie

London, November 29: Hollywood actress Kate Hudson has revealed her star mother Goldie Hawn fought back tears as she was proud to see her daughter dance, when she visited her on the sets of the movie “Nine”.

Hawn, who began her career as a dancer, was overwhelmed when she saw her daughter take centre stage in the musical, reports celebrifi.com.

“She came to the set and it was fun for her. I think it was emotional for her too because that’s how she started her career,” said Hudson.

Eesha Koppikhar marries Timmy Narang

Mumbai, November 29: Bollywood actress Eesha Koppikhar Sunday tied the knot with restaurateur Timmy Narang at a temple here in a ceremony that was attended by close family and friends.

The 33-year-old married beau Narang at the ISKCON Temple in Juhu in traditional Maharashtrian style.

“The wedding ceremony took place for around four hours in Maharashtrian style. The girl (Eesha) was wearing a red and yellow sari and the groom was wearing a cream sherwani. They left the temple around 3 p.m.,” a temple official told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Iran asks UNESCO to help over dispute with Egypt

Tehran, November 29: Iran has asked the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to protect the remains of a vanished Persian army of the Achaemenid empire in Egypt.

The request was made through a letter by Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) on Sunday.

“Egypt’s chief archeologist Zahi Hawass has recently rejected the discovery of the army in his personal weblog due to political pressure,” ICHTO Spokesman, Hassan Mohseni, told Fars news agency.

Majlis passes budget to fight US HR abuse

Tehran, November 29: Iranian Parliamentarians earmark millions of dollars to confront what they call “gross violations of human rights” by Britain and the US.

In a newly-passed resolution on Sunday, the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) allocated around 20 million dollars from the Iranian Oil Stabilization Fund to investigate human rights abuses committed by the US and British government around the world.

Brown sets out targets for Karzai

London, November 29: The British prime minister says he will set targets for the Afghan president so that NATO forces can start to hand over control of Afghanistan to local forces.

Gordon Brown said Saturday that President Karzai needed to draw up a credible plan before attending an international conference on Afghanistan in London in late January.

“I want the conference in London to set the conditions needed for district by district handover to Afghan lead responsibility,” Brown noted, saying the first benchmark will come three months after the conference.

TRS workers stage dharna, traffic disrupted

Medak, November 29: To protest against the arrest of TRS President K Chandrasekhara Rao, a large number of Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) leaders and workers staged a dharna on the Medak-Siddipet road disrupting the vehicular traffic, here today.

TRS President remanded in judicial custody, tension prevails

Khammam, November 29: Tension prevailed near the Khammam Sub Jail while the Police moving Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhara Rao to the jail after the magistrate remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.

Earier, police booked cases against Rao under sections 147, 114, 117, 120b IPC in the Two Town Police Station and produced before the Khammam Magistrate who remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.

The judge rejected the plea of Rao for providing medical treatment, bail and also the reason for his arrest.

‘Kaiga radiation leak an act of sabotage’

Mumbai, November 29: In a case of sabotage, Atomic Energy Commission chief Anil Kakodkar on Sunday said somebody “deliberately” put radioactive tritium in a water cooler at the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant that exposed about 50 workers to increased level of radiation.

People involved will be punished under the Atomic Energy and other acts after investigation, he said.

“Somebody deliberately put the tritiated water vials into a drinking water cooler. Therefore, we are investigating who is behind the malevolent act,” he said in Mumbai.

831 crimes by motorcyclists; police claim no spurt in such incidents

New Delhi, November 29: The national capital has witnessed over 800 crimes committed by motorcycle-borne men this year, with snatching topping the list at 760 cases, even as the police claim that there is “no spurt” in such incidents.

Till November 15 this year, a total of 831 cases of murder, robbery and snatching committed by motorcycle-borne assailants were reported from across the city and police arrested 857 people in connection with these incidents.

Don’t jeopardise civil servants’ rights on assumptions: CAT

New Delhi, November 29: Rights of civil servants cannot be put in “jeopardy” on the assumption that an inquiry might be conducted into alleged negligent actions on their part, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has held.

“There might have been lapses which might be actionable but so long as they were in the minds of the officers alone and not translated to any specific action, right of a civil servant should not have been subjected to jeopardy,” the CAT headed by Vice-Chairman M Ramachandran said.

Deora fast-tracks petrol dealerships for 26/11 victims’ kin

Mumbai, November 29: Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said he has fast-tracked the process of awarding petrol pump dealerships to families of six security personnel killed in the 26/11 terror strikes.

The government expects to overcome procedural bottlenecks such as acquiring of land and obtaining environmental clearances soon, the Petroleum Minister said.

’Rs. 7.5 lakh cr. needed to create 50 crore skilled workforce’

Mumbai, November 29: The Planning Commission has requested the government to grant Rs. 7.5 lakh crores for achieving its mission of creating 50 crore skilled people, both in the organised and unorganised sectors over the next decade.

“We have requested the government to sanction around Rs. 7,50,000 crores to achieve the mission by 2022. We are awaiting the government’s decision in this regard,” Chairman, Sub-Group, Skill Development, Planning Commission, M.N. Chaini, told PTI here.

No proposal to install Mahatma’s statue at India Gate: Centre

New Delhi, November 29: The Centre has no proposal to install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the canopy at the historic India Gate in the national capital.

Sources in the Urban Development Ministry said that it has no proposal “pending” for the installation of the statue after a controversy broke out in 1995 which led the Delhi High Court to put a stay on altering the canopy and the original architecture of the war memorial in Lutyen’s Delhi.

Pakistan president claims success against Taliban

Islamabad, November 29: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has claimed “considerable success” in a military offensive against Taliban fighters in the remote tribal northwest, his office said Sunday.

Zardari made the remarks during a telephone conversation late Saturday with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said in a statement.

“Referring to the ongoing drive against militancy in the tribal areas of South Waziristan, the president said that considerable success had been achieved,” Babar said.

ATS constable, two others killed by suspected SIMI activist

Bhopal, November 29: An Anti-Terrorist Squad constable, involved in tracking members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), was killed along with two others by a motorcycle-borne youth Saturday night. Police suspect the killer to be a SIMI activist. Six people have been arrested in connection with the killings, police said Sunday.

The police have recovered the motorbike used by the assailant.
