Synthetic molecules may boost immunity against HIV

Washington, Nov 09 : Scientists have developed synthetic molecules that could boost our immunity against HIV and HIV-infected cells as well as prostate cancer cells.

Their findings potentially open the way to novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of these diseases.

HIV is a global pandemic that affects 33 million people worldwide, while prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among American males.

Preity Zinta vows to fight against child trafficking

Contracter looted of Rupees 6 lakh after driver shot injured

New Delhi, Nov 9 : Armed robbers today looted a contractor of Rupees 6 lakh after shooting at his driver in Model Town area, police said.

”After Satya Prakash, an MCD contractor, had moved out of his car to go to his office in Rana Pratap Bagh, his driver, Keshav, also came out to take out his briefcase, carrying the amount, from the car’s rear section,” a senior police official said.

As soon as he took the briefcase in his hand, four armed robbers passed by the car at a high speed and shot at 35-year-old Keshav, injuring him seriously, he added.

Ingredients:

• 6 Slices Bread

• 6 Tsp Butter

• 3 Hard Boiled Eggs

• 2 Onions

• 1 Capsicum

• 1 Potato Boiled

• 2 Tbsp Cheese

• 2 Tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves

• 4 Tbsp Mayonnaise

• 4 Green Chilies

• Pepper and Salt to Taste

Method:

• Boil eggs and potatoes.

• Chop eggs, onion, green chilly, capsicum and potatoes separately.

• Mix all the Ingredients: except bread and butter in a bowl.

• Take two slices of bread and apply one tsp butter on each.

Ingredients
• 2 cups maida flour
• 4 tsp rice flour
• ¼ tsp baking powder
• 4 tsp curd
• 1¼ cup warm water
• ½ tsp saffron threads
• 3 cups sugar
• 2 cups water
• ½ tsp cardamom powder
• 4 tsp rose water
• Ghee or vegetable oil for frying

Method
• Mix maida flour, rice flour, baking powder, curd and mix well by adding water little at a time till the batter is completely ready.
• Add saffron powder and whisk again.

• Set aside for about 2 hours to ferment and whisk again.

Chavez: US provoking all-out war in S. America

Venenzuela, November 09: President Hugo Chavez has threatened an all-out war in South America should the US want to provoke Colombia to launch an armed conflict in the region.

Chavez said Venezuela could end up going to war with Colombia, warning that if a conflict broke out “it could extend throughout the whole continent.”

The anti-US leader ordered the military to prepare for a possible war, addressing President Barack Obama to be cautious about any move in the region.

Chilly powder – 2 tbsp
Coriander powder – 2 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Garam masala – 1 tbsp
Grinded Ginger – 1 tsp
Grinded Garlic – 1 tsp
Salt, Oil – As required
White part of egg – 3 eggs

Procedure:

1. Slice Chicken in big pieces and make cuts on them.

2. Mix Chilly powder, Coriander powder, Turmeric powder, Garam masala, Grinded Ginger, Garlic and marinate for 45 minutes.

3. Heat the Oil in a Kadai.

4. Dip Chicken pieces in egg white and deep fry.

2 US pilots killed in chopper clash in Iraq

Baghdad, November 09: Two American pilots have been killed in a helicopter crash in Salahuddin Province in northern Iraq, the US military has announced.

The pilots were killed during a “hard landing” on Sunday, the military said in a statement.

The military statement, which was released on Monday, did not reveal any further details about the crash.

The incident is under investigation, the statement said.

Sanjay-Vashu fall out over broken promise

Mumbai, November 09: Sanjay Dutt and producer Vashu Bhagnani have had a serious fight because the latter broke his promise of re-launching Sanjay’s good friend Dharam Oberoi’s daughter Neha. To make matters worse, Vashu replaced Neha without informing the actor.

Consequently, a dismayed Sanjay has walked out of Vashu’s film, Faltu, which is also supposed to re-launch the producer’s son Jackky Bhagnani.

Indian student attacked in Australia

Melbourne, Nov 09: In yet another attack on Indian students here, a 22-year-old youth was punched on his face by a group of Australians, who also told the victim that “in this place there is no home for you”.

Sai Ratan Tiwari, who hails from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, was on his way to a temple along with a friend yesterday when two Australians stopped him and asked where they were going.

“I told them I was going home instead of disclosing that I was going to a temple,” said Tiwari, who arrived here a year ago to persue Bachelors of Information Systems.

Use of lubricant makes sex more pleasurable

Washington, November 09: Using a lubricant during sexual activity alone or with a partner contributes to more pleasurable and satisfying sex, a new study has found.

The Centre for Sexual Health Promotion (CSHP), Indiana University (I-U), studied 2,453 women aged between 18 and 68.

Participants strongly endorsed that lubricant use improved their sexual experiences in more than 70 percent of the events. Women indicated that using lubricants made sex feel very pleasurable and more comfortable.

Specializing in one sport can damage your health

Washington, Nov 09: Gifted young athletes are increasingly under pressure to play only one sport round the year. But a new study has found that such specialization increases the risk of injury.

Researchers from the Loyola University Health System (LUHS) examined 519 junior tennis players and analysed 3,366 matches in junior competitions in the US and found that players who specialized in only tennis were more likely to withdraw from tournaments for medical reasons, typically injuries.

Heavier breasts linked to increased cancer risk

Toronto, November 09: Women with heavier busts who have been treated for breast cancer are at higher risk of its recurrence, says a new study.

These findings indicate that such patients may benefit from additional therapies, such as radiation, following surgery.

Researchers suspected that high breast density (heavier breasts) may also increase the risk of cancer recurrence after lumpectomy, but this theory has not been thoroughly studied.

Australian prime minister to visit India this week

Canberra, November 09: Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will visit India this week in a bid to forge stronger relations between the two countries, media reports said Monday.

The prime minister’s two-day visit to Mumbai and New Delhi, beginning Wednesday, will give the federal government another opportunity to reassure India that its student population is welcome in Australia, news.com.au reported.

India-born doctor’s skull heard to crack in Australia attack

Melbourne, November 09: India-born doctor and former head of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Mukesh Haikerwal’s skull was heard to crack as he was savagely assaulted with a baseball bat by a group of teenagers in a suburb here last year, a court has been told.

Haikerwal was struck on the head four or five times with the bat by Alfer Azzopardi, 20, during the attack in a park at Williamstown in September 2008, the Victorian County Court heard.

A 16-year-old boy also struck the doctor with the baseball bat.

Delhiites start week with a warm Monday

New Delhi, November 09: A cloudy sky led to a slight rise in temperature Monday morning in the capital, paving the way to a warm day.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature recorded at 8.30 a.m. was 16.3 degrees Celsius three degrees above the average.

“The skies will remain partly cloudy throughout the day because of the influence of the western disturbances that are prevalent over the Jammu and Kashmir region,” an IMD official said.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius.

Kidnapped principal beheaded in the Philippines

Zamboanga City (The Philippines), November 09: A kidnapped state school principal was beheaded by his abductors on a southern Philippine island, a regional military spokesman said Monday.

The head of Gabriel Canizares, 36, was recovered at dawn Monday at a petrol station in Jolo town on Jolo Island, 1,000 km south of Manila, Major Ramon David Hontiveros said.

Hontiveros said two motorcycle-riding gunmen, believed to be Abu Sayyaf rebels, allegedly threw a plastic bag containing the victim’s head in front of the petrol station.

Peshawar suicide bombing kills three

Peshawar, November 09: At least three people were killed and five injured Monday when a suicide bomber struck at a police checkpoint in this northwestern city of Pakistan, a day after a powerful blast left 13 people, including the city mayor, dead.

The suicide bomb attack at the police checkpoint on Peshawar’s Ring Road killed three people and wounded five, Dawn quoted police officials as saying.

“It was at a police checkpoint,” said police officer Khursheed Khan. The bomber was travelling on a rickshaw when the explosion took place.

Rain lashes Chandigarh, neighbouring states

Chandigarh, November 09: Moderate to heavy showers lashed this union territory and neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana Monday, leading to a drop in temperature.
