Four human heads found in coolers in Mexico

Mexico City, September 26: Four human heads were found Friday stashed in four coolers in the southern Mexican town of Coyuca de Catalan, where many drug gangs are active, Guerrero state authorities said.

Police also found four black bags with the remainder of the bodies, and a message whose content was not made public.

The discovery of decapitated bodies has become common in Mexico, where drug violence has claimed more than 5,000 lives in Mexico so far this year.

G-20 reflects rise of Asia: Manmohan Singh

Pittsburgh, September 26: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has welcomed a decision to make the Group of 20 as the premier forum for global economic decisions, saying the views of fast growing developing countries like India, China and Brazil have to be taken into account for optimum impact.

“With the rise of Asia, with growth of India, China and Brazil, the economic decision-making has to take into account the views of these countries if it is to have an optimum impact,” Singh said at a post-summit news conference

‘Rich nations must help developing world fight climate change’

Pittsburgh, September 26: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says developed nations would need to provide funding and affordable technology to developing nations in return for any commitments to fight climate change.

“There is a broad, vague agreement that any agreement in which developing countries are also required to take any national action will have to be accompanied by credible action on the part of developed countries,” he said at a post G-20 summit news conference Friday.

Pak must give up terror as state policy: PM

Pittsburgh, September 26: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked Pakistan to give up its attitude of using terror as an instrument of state policy as that was the only obstacle in normalising relations with its neighbour.

“India’s message is that India seeks to normalise its relationship with Pakistan. But the only obstacle is that it should shed its old attitude of using terror as a state policy,” he said at a post G-20 summit news conference here Friday.

Family attacked in Train

Hyderabad, September 26 (Siasat News): In a gruesome incident a family with learning difficulties has been left with major injuries after some college students attacked them on a petty issue.

The family native of Amannagar ‘A’ was on their way to Hyderabad from Gulbarga. At a station, some college students boarded and started arguing for seats, when the family denied them; the gang stopped the train by pulling the chain and brutally attacked the family.

The family consists of 8 members badly injured and admitted to the Osmania General Hospital.

The ruling by South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh means the haul of at least 1,345 items will now be valued by a committee of experts before being offered for sale, the experts added.

Balco chimney crash toll rises to 40, several workers trapped

Raipur, September 25: The bodies of 40 workers, all badly disfigured, were recovered till evening from under the debris of a collapsed chimney at the Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) plant in Chhattisgarh as rescuers continued to search for survivors on the third day Friday. Authorities fear several more are still trapped in the debris.

District authorities at Korba, about 250 km north of state capital Raipur, said 40 bodies were pulled out and the casualty figure could rise further once the wreckage of the under-construction chimney at the 1,200 MW coal-fired power plant was cleared.

Twitter to get $100 mn in financing

San Francisco, September 25: Internet messaging sensation Twitter is to close a new funding round of $100 million from investors who value the company as high as $1 billion, the New York Times reported Thursday.

The privately held company, which is yet to register a profit, intends to use the funds to beef up its system as it tries to grow fast to compete with Facebook.

Twitter, which allows users to blog short messages from their cellphones, currently has about 50 million users and hopes to match Facebook’s 300 million users worldwide.

Palestinians mark 60th anniversary of aid body

United Nations, September 25: The international community Thursday paid tribute to the UN relief organization UNRWA marking 60 years since it was founded to help Palestinians caught up in the Middle East conflict.

“I wish there was no need for UNRWA. I wish there was no anniversary to mark and I wish that there were not 4.6 million Palestinian refugees in need of humanitarian aid,” said Jordan’s Queen Rania, who is also Palestinian.

UN: Christian extremist LRA ‘still a threat’

Kinshasa, September 25: Ugandan Christian extremist rebels of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) have been weakened by recent attacks but remain a threat, a UN military source said Thursday.

“The LRA are weakened but still remain active. They’re still a threat,” the military spokesman of the UN mission in Congo (MONUC), Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Paul Dietrich said.

“They attack any target, including military ones, capable of providing them with some supplies,” he stressed.

Iran builds second uranium enrichment plant

Vienna, September 25: Iran has said it built a second uranium enrichment plant, the UN nuclear watchdog said Friday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran had sent a letter on September 21 to inform the watchdog “that a new pilot fuel enrichment plant is under construction in the country,” agency spokesman Marc Vidricaire said in a statement.

The New York Times reported that the facility was being built inside a mountain near the holy city of Qom, 160 kilometres (100 miles) south of Tehran. Iran already has one enrichment plant at Natanz.

Nuclear-armed Israel slams non-nuclear Iran

United Nations, September 25: Hardline Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly Thursday that Iran’s alleged quest for nuclear weapons was the greatest danger the world faces, in what observers say is an untrue hypocritical remark.

Nuclear-armed Israel is the only country in the Middle East that actually has nuclear weapons.

Although Israel was created by a UN resolution over 60 years ago, it is known for its defiance of the international community, especially when concerning UN resolutions on it’s illegal occupation of Arab land.

Kashmiri separatists hail Gathafi’s UN marathon

Srinagar, September 25: A marathon UN diatribe by Libya’s Moamer Gathafi won him an enthusiastic fan base in Kashmir.

Gathafi berated US and some EU powers for an hour and 35 minutes from the General Assembly podium on Wednesday in a speech covering issues as diverse as John F. Kennedy’s assassination, swine flu and his support for Kashmiri independence.

Separatist leaders in Kashmir were united in praise for his ringing endorsement of their struggle.

“Kashmir should be an independent state, not Indian, not Pakistani. We should end this conflict,” Gathafi told the assembly.

EU: Lebanon vote fine, but reforms needed

Beirut, September 25: Lebanon’s June election was devoid of any major irregularities but reforms are needed to ensure more transparency and better representation, the European Union said on Friday in its final report on the vote.

“While June’s parliamentary elections benefited from legal improvements introduced last year, work still remains to be done to bring Lebanon’s electoral system into line with the country’s international commitments,” Jose Ignacio Salafranca, who led the EU’s observation mission to the vote in June, told a press conference.

Missing brothers found murdered in fields

Punjab, September 25: The bodies of two minor children, missing since Thursday evening, were found in the paddy fields in this Punjab district, police said. Both had apparently been strangled.

According to the police, Aman (11) and his brother Om (7) had left their home Thursday evening for tuition. When they did not return home till late, their parents registered a missing complaint with the local police and feared the two had been kidnapped.

Naveen Patnaik seeks wetlands research centre at Chilika

Bhubaneswar, September 25: Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested the central government to set up a dedicated research centre for management of wetlands and coastal ecosystems at Chilika Lake, Asia’s largest saltwater lake, an official statement said here Friday evening.
Patnaik met Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh in New Delhi Thursday and suggested that a ‘National Research Institute for Management of Wetlands and Coastal Ecosystems’ be established, the chief minister’s office said.

British Airways to charge fee to choose seats

Europe, September 25: CASH-STRAPPED British Airways is to start charging passengers who want to choose their seats when they book their flights, the airline says.

The new charges will affect people who want to ensure they sit together on a flight, or anyone with a preference for seats next to a window or an emergency exit or in an aisle.

BA currently makes no charge for passengers who want to reserve seats in the 24 hours prior to departure but from October 7 those willing to pay will be able to secure their preferred spot when they make a booking.

China charges 21 over deadly Xinjiang riots: state media

China, September 25: A COURT in China’s restive northwestern Xinjiang region has charged 21 suspects over deadly July riots, state media said, the first reported criminal charges to emerge from the unrest.

The charges included homicide, arson, robbery and property damage, Xinhua news agency said on Friday, quoting a court in the Xinjiang regional capital of Urumqi.

Urumqi erupted in chaos on July 5 as members of the ethnic Uighur minority – most of whom are Muslims – went on a rampage in attacks directed mainly at members of China’s dominant Han ethnic group.
