Woman in court over ‘molested’ schoolboy, 12

Australia, September 27: A NURSE’S aide charged with molesting a primary aged schoolboy will face court in New South Wales next month.

The 40-year-old woman who has been sacked and now lives with family in the state’s north, faced court last month charged with five offences including aggravated sexual intercourse with the alleged victim, who is aged just 12.

It is alleged the incident took place late one night in the school grounds.

Indore, September 27: To avoid being mobbed, Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat wore a burqa during her visit to this City on Friday.

Minutes after alighting from a plane at Devi Ahiliya Bai Airport, Sherawat put on a burqa to hide her identity.

“I repeatedly requested her to remove the burqa for a while and pose for a photograph, but she did not. So I took her snap in the burqa itself ,” a press photographer, who had waited for a long near the airport to take her photograph said.

The actress had come to take part in a function here.

Rosaiah, Jagan apologise to Sonia over tearing of her banner

Hyderabad, September 27: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah has requested AICC president Sonia Gandhi to pardon the state Congressmen over the incident in the Khammam District Congress Committee office wherein a banner containing her picture was torn down by supporters demanding appointment of Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy as the Chief Minister.

Rosaiah, in a statement today, strongly condemned the incident and expressed his serious displeasure over it.

Raj Thackeray questions Shiv Sena’s love for Marathi manoos

Mumbai, September 27: Launching fresh offensive against Shiv Sena, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray today questioned the former’s love for Marathi manoos and said it is poll-oriented.

“Shiv Sena is interested only in Marathi votes and not the Marathi manoos. Their affection towards Marathi manoos started only after they (Sena) realised that Marathi people voted in huge numbers for MNS during last Lok Sabha polls,” Raj said in suburban Bhadup.

He said Sena has never spoken against Biharis or people from Uttar Pradesh.

British PM Gordon Brown rejects doubts over his health

Europe, September 27: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown denied political gossip that he is taking prescription painkillers and said he was fit enough to lead the country.

In a BBC television interview to mark the start of his ruling Labour Party’s annual conference, Mr Brown was asked about rumours in Westminster that he was someone who takes “prescription painkillers and pills to help them get through”.

“No, this is the sort of questioning that is all too often entering the lexicon of British politics,” Mr Brown replied.

Criticism of Queen upset her mum

Los Angeles, September 27: The Queen Mother was hugely upset by criticism of her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, friends have revealed.

Sir Michael Oswald and his wife, Lady Angela Oswald, say the Queen Mother felt angry that her elder daughter was so widely criticised for her actions in the aftermath of the princess’s fatal car crash in Paris in 1997.

Public anger began after the Queen took Princes William and Harry to church at Balmoral a few hours after Prince Charles had told them of their mother’s death.

Man kills 15 family members

Taliban, September 27: A 30-YEAR-OLD man shot dead 15 family members, including his wife and children, with an automatic rifle before committing suicide in a village in central Afghanistan.

Eight women and several children were among those killed in the shooting, which took place in the village of Ghola, in Ghazni province, provincial police chief Khial Baz Shirzai said.

Shirzai identified the killer as Mohammad Zaman, around 30, saying Zaman shot dead his family members with an AK-47 in a dispute over the ownership of land and a house.

Britain’s PM braces for poll battle

New York, September 27: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has insisted he will not “roll over” and give up the fight as his embattled Labour Party kicked off its last pre-election conference.

Three Guantanamo prisoners released

Washington, September 27: Three detainees held at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have been sent to Ireland and Yemen, the Justice Department said overnight, the latest transfers as President Barack Obama tries to close the facility by January.

Yemeni Alla Ali Bin Ali Ahmed was sent to his home country, while two other detainees were sent to Ireland, the US Government said, adding it would not identify the two at the request of the Government of Ireland.

Tourists advised to get rabies vaccine

Jakarta, September 27: Tourists are being advised to have rabies vaccinations before arriving in Bali after three deaths from dog bites in the past month.

Tabanan is the latest area to be struck by the rabies epidemic, following neighbouring Denpasar and the Badung Regency, which includes the popular destinations of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak.

The head of the rabies control team at Sanglah public hospital, Raka Sudewi, advised tourists to avoid the area because local hospitals had exhausted their stocks of the post-exposure rabies vaccine.

Mika in line of fire for shoplifting comments

London, September 27: Pop star Mika has been slammed by a crime prevention organisation for joking about shoplifting and has been labled “irresponsible”.

Contactmusic.com reports, that the singer admitted in a recent interview that he has previously taken goods without paying in stores, but “just the small stuff like toys or pick ‘n’ mix (sweets).”

But the comments have been met with condemnations by Crimestoppers, which has branded the star “irresponsible”.

“Comments appearing to condone shoplifting in any context are wrong,” said a spokesperson.

Ohio, September 27: A Women who was implanted with the wrong embryo has given birth to a “healthy baby boy” and given him up to his biological parents, according to a family statement.

Death toll rises for Philippine floods

Philippines, September 27: AT LEAST 50 people were reported dead as tropical storm Ketsana lashed the Philippines, bringing massive flooding, according to reports.

At least 40 were killed in Rizal province, east of Manila, as entire towns were inundated, according to Rizal Governor Casimiro Ynares on GMA television.

Radio stations had earlier reported 10 dead in Manila and its surrounding areas. This included a father and child killed by a collapsing wall weakened by the flood as well as others swept away by rising waters.

Movie legend arrested over child rape

Washington, September 27: Film director Roman Polanski has been arrested in Switzerland on a 31-year-old US warrant, Associated Press reports.

Organisers of the Zurich Film Festival said Polanski was detained by police yesterday.

Zurich police did not immediately confirm the information to AP.

It is understood he traveled to Switzerland to receive a lifetime award for his work as a director.

Polanski fled the United States for France in 1978 after pleading guilty to unlawful sex with an underage girl.
