Mumbai, September 03: Chak De girl Sagarika Ghatge says she shared a fantastic equation with co-star Arjun Rampal while shooting for “Fox”, and everyone on the sets made her feel so “comfortable” that she even agreed to do a romantic scene with nothing but Rampal’s shirt on.

“I shared a fantastic equation with Arjun. He was really chilled out. In fact, everyone from the team made me very comfortable from day one, ” Sagarika told over phone from Mumbai.

Iran Parliament to decide fate of Cabinet Thursday

Tehran, September 03: Iranian lawmakers attending a debate on the new Ahmadinejad Cabinet with the debate on the new Ahmadinejad Cabinet spilled over to another day, Iranian lawmakers will vote on the nominees on Thursday, after the president offers his last words about his picks.

Parliamentary debate on the line-up began on Saturday and is expected to end by Thursday noon. The president will then address the lawmakers in defense of the 21 nominees who await a vote of confidence.

The voting is set to take place after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s speech.

Terrorists attack Pakistani actress Meera!

Karachi, September 03: Pakistani actress Meera is seeking protection from the Punjab Government, following a recent “terrorists” attack on her house.

The star said that she was under constant threat from a special group of terrorists under the ringleader namely Attiqur Rehman, her former business partner.

“The terrorists attacked my house aiming to abduct and kill me,” the Nation quoted her saying at her DHA residence.

“I have done a lot of firsts in my life with this show. Like I have never ever worn a swimsuit on television. But I have finally done that also. I don’t know how terrible I’ll be looking, ” Rupali told over the phone from Mumbai.

New Delhi, September 03: There has been no mosque in the Hindu-dominated remote village of Kalalati Thakurpura in the Ambala district in India’s Punjab province. Muslims 10-12 homes out of the 150 homes in the village wanted to build one just before this Ramazan. Haji Sabir Ali of the village had bought a piece of land for the purpose.

US central bank sees economic recovery in coming months

Washington, September 03: The US Federal Reserve sees an end to the economic crisis in the second half of the year even as problems are expected to remain on the job market, according to minutes of the central bank’s last meeting released Wednesday.

Still the majority of the central bankers said at the Aug 11-12 meeting that they expected recovery to be slow and stressed that the economy was “still vulnerable to adverse shocks”.

World’s first baby born from egg-screening technique

London, September 03: Meet Oliver, the first baby in the world born using a new egg-screening technique that could double the odds of an implanted embryo taking hold in the womb, unveiled by British experts today.

Baby Oliver was born in Britain to a 41-year-old woman after 13 failed attempts at in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

The new technique, called array comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH), makes it possible to ensure eggs have a normal number of chromosomes, boosting the likelihood of a successful pregnancy.

‘Mismatched and Unrelated Cord Blood’ transplant successful

Kolkata: A 43-year-old man, suffering from ‘Aplastic Anaemia’ for over a year, has got a new lease of life after undergoing a successful ‘mismatched and unrelated cord blood transplantation’ at a cancer research institute here.

‘Aplastic Anaemia’ is a haematological disorder stemming from bone marrow which is incapable of producing blood cells.

Rabindra Mallick from Baranagar area in north Kolkata was suffering from general weakness, occasional fever and anorexia since a year. After blood investigations and bone marrow tests, he was found to be suffering from ‘Aplastic Anaemic’.

Haitian kills Dominican for selling him dog meat

Santiago, September 03: An illegal Haitian immigrant beat a Dominican man to death with a pick for supposedly selling him dog meat instead of goat meat, police said.

Jose Pie killed Ramon Antonio Rodriguez in Esperanza, a city in the northwestern province of Valverde.

Rodriguez got into a fight with several Haitians who were angry that they had eaten dog meat that had been sold to them as goat.

The Dominican threw a stone at Pie in the middle of the argument and fled.

Switzerland urges Libya to release Swiss nationals

Geneva, September 03: The Swiss government has called on Libya to honour pledges it made in an accord with Switzerland and allow two detained Swiss nationals to leave the country, the official Swisinfo.ch news website reported.

In a statement, Swiss President Hans-Rudolf Merz and Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey also repeated Switzerland’s commitment to complying with the terms of the deal aimed at normalising relations soured by the arrest of Hannibal Gaddafi, a son of the Libyan leader, in Geneva last year.

Indonesia quake death toll rises to 44

Jakarta, September 03: At least 44 people were killed in a powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake that devastated the western part of Indonesia’s Java island, state media reported early Thursday.

The quake was felt strongly in the capital Jakarta Wednesday, shaking buildings and sending residents running out of their homes and high-rise office towers screaming in panic. A tsunami alert was issued but cancelled about less than an hour later.

When Shahid sat jobless at home for six months

Mumbai, September 03: The success of ‘Kaminey’ has catapulted him into the big league, but actor Shahid Kapoor says he sat at home for six months without any work after his box office hit ‘Vivaah’ in 2006.

‘The most difficult phase was after ‘Vivaah’ was a super hit. I was at home for six months without work. I got some 60 film offers but none inspired me,’ Shahid told choreographer-director Farah Khan on STAR Plus’ chat show ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’.

On the show, the actor spoke of losing his confidence after a spate of failures following his debut ‘Ishq Vishk’.

ISRO aircraft takes satellite images to trace YSR

Hyderabad, September 03: A low-flying aircraft of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) late Wednesday took pictures of Nallamalla forest area where the helicopter carrying Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was last seen before it went missing.
Finance Minister K. Rosaiah told reporters that the low-flying aircraft belonging to ISRO had taken 41 satellite imagery pictures. Authorities hope to get some clues about the missing chopper from there images.

Arabs charged over Dutch cartoon

Copahagen, September 03: An Arab organisation is to be put on trial in the Netherlands over its publication of a cartoon deemed offensive to Jews, prosecutors say.

The cartoon, published by the Arab European League (AEL) on its website, questions the Holocaust.

It said the decision to prosecute illustrated bias against Muslims.

It said the same standards were not applied to the Dutch MP Geert Wilders, who made a film including cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

Gulf countries back UAE’s dominion over three isles

Jeddah, September 03: Foreign ministers of the Cooperation Council for Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG) have supported the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) claim over the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, the WAM news agency reported.

The UAE will also have sovereign right over the islands’ territorial waters, airspace and the continental shelf, the report said.
