Pulivvendula (Andhra Pradesh), September 04: The late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was Friday buried at his homestead here, laid to eternal rest against the green hills in the place he loved the most with his family, friends and thousands of supporters watching tearfully.

The body was brought to the 100 acre Idupulapaya Estate, 40 km from this town in Kadapa district, earlier in the day with thousands surging forward in grief.

Evidence enough to try Mumbai attackers, India tells Pakistan

New Delhi, September 04: Weary of Pakistan’s repeated demands for more information even after receiving six dossiers on the Mumbai terrorist attackers, India Friday made it clear that it was now time for action and for Islamabad to decide what kind of relationship it wants with New Delhi.

Official sources Friday pointed out that India was looking for “speedy, transparent and meaningful action” against perpetrators of the Mumbai carnage and stressed that evidence provided so far was enough to prosecute Hafiz Saeed and other Pakistani militants involved in the 26/11 terrorist attack.

Vice speaker hails Leader’s wisdom on Iran Cabinet

Tehran, September 04: Iran’s vice speaker, Mohammad-Reza Bahonar, has hailed the Leader of the Islamic Revolution for providing Parliament with “friendly” guidance on clearing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s nominees for his cabinet.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei “recommended that the government should start working at the earliest and with fullest capacity at the time when the country is faced with domestic and international crises and issues,” Fars News Agency quoted Bahonar as saying on Thursday.

He asserted that the Leader’s message was simply a “friendly” advice.

French soldier killed in Afghan bomb explosion

Kabul, September 04: One French soldier from the NATO-led coalition forces has lost his life and nine others have sustained serious injuries after an improvised explosive device struck their vehicle in Afghanistan.

International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)

The soldiers were reportedly members of the 3rd Marine Infantry Regiment, which is based in the French port city of Vannes in Brittany. They were attacked Friday morning in Showki region between the military bases of Nijrab and Bagram in the east of the country.

YSR Reddy laid to rest in hometown Pulivendula

Hyderabad, September 04: Tens of thousands of grief stricken people turned out Friday to pay last respects to the late Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, whose body was kept at a stadium in Hyderabad before being flown to his native Pulivendula town in Kadapa district and buried.

The body was flown in an army helicopter from Begumpet airport after thousands of people paid their last respects at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad.

Younus wants a players’ association in Pak

Islamabad, September 04: Pakistan captain Younus Khan said he and his teammate have decided to form a players’ association and would go ahead with it even if the cricket board does not support them.

Talking to PTI, Younus said he is determined to form the association to safeguard the players’ interests and look after the welfare of both former and present cricketers.

“I am not on any confrontation path with the Pakistan Cricket Board. But definitely, I have informed them the intention of the players to have their own association,” he said.

Over 100 die after YSR’s death, son appeals for calm

Hyderabad, September 04: As many as 122 people across Andhra Pradesh reportedly died of shock or committed suicide after the death of their chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, prompting his MP son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to appeal to the people to be stoic and brave.

“I appeal to all of you to be stoic and brave in this hour of tragedy. He (YSR) wanted to see a smile on the faces of all and if you resort to such things (suicide) this will hurt him,” said Jaganmohan, trying hard to control his tears.

Delhi ‘breakthrough’ will restart Doha trade talks: Anand Sharma

New Delhi, September 04:Top officials of the 153 members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) will meet in Geneva later this month after a “breakthrough” was reached to resume the Doha round of trade talks, India’s Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said Friday.

“We have reached an agreement to intensify negotiations. There has been a breakthrough, If I can use this expression. The impasse has been broken,” said Sharma after a two-day meet here among the representatives of some 40 key WTO members.

Praying for ancestors’ salvation, Hindus head for Gaya

Gaya, September 04:The Hindu holy town of Gaya in Bihar is set to attract up to 400,000 devotees who are coming here to perform the pinda daan, a religious service for dead ancestors, during the fortnight-long pitrupaksh beginning Friday.

Pakistan helping terrorists sneak into India: army chief

New Delhi, September 04:Indian Army chief General Deepak Kapoor Friday accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir to enable terrorists to sneak into India.

General Kapoor said the ceasefire violations at the LoC were “diversionary tactics” meant to enable terrorists to cross into India.

“Ceasefire violations have increased because this enables infiltration to be carried out when the firing is on and (it) can be used as a diversionary tactic,” Kapoor told reporters here.

Java quake toll reaches to 64

Pangalengan (Indonesia), Sep 4 (DPA) The toll from the powerful earthquake that struck Indonesia’s Java island Wednesday rose to 64 Friday as rescuers searched for 37 people missing, officials said.

The missing people were among dozens of residents who were buried after a torrent of rocks engulfed their houses in the West Java district of Cianjur after Wednesday’s quake.

About 31,000 houses were damaged and more than 25,000 people were displaced after the magnitude-7.3 earthquake, the National Agency for Disaster Management said.

Amitabh starrer ‘Paa’ to release on Children’s Day

Mumbai, September 04: Director R. Balakrishnan, also known as Balki, has decided to release his role-reversal drama “Paa”, starring Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, on Nov 13 as a tribute to Children’s Day.

“It’s a film about a child within a man and a man within a child. And I can’t think of a better tribute to a child than Children’s Day,” says Balki, who completed shooting the film in England recently.

Balki has shot his two feature films – “Cheeni Kum”, an unconventional love story between a 30-plus woman and a 60-plus chef, and now “Paa” – in Britain because he loves the country.

Kamal Haasan sings for daughter Shruti for his upcoming film

Mumbai, September 04: Tamil megastar Kamal Haasan has sung two songs for his upcoming production ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’, a remake of ‘A Wednesday’ under the baton of his daughter Shruti.

Currently composing music for the film, the young actress-singer convinced her father to sing for her.

According to sources close to the film, Shruti wanted to infuse something different in the songs. Having a cult status down south, Kamal Haasans’ voice is one that people identify with immediately.

New Delhi, September 04: One-day cricket should not be scrapped as there is enough space in the international calendar to accommodate the format which is struggling to survive in the face of Twenty20’s rising profile, feels Indian opener Gautam Gambhir.

“There is still space for 50-over format in international cricket. It gives batsmen an opportunity to show their talent, particularly the middle-order batsmen. Test cricket is the toughest form of the game,” Gambhir said.

Windies chairman of selectors issues warning

London, September 04: The West Indies chairman of selectors Clyde Butts, has issued a warning to the leading players on strike – saying that if they don’t make themselves available for the domestic one-day tournament, they would be axed from the tour of Australia that follows.

Butts said he was hopeful of the dispute between the board and players being resolved before the team to Australia is announced, but he warned that another weakened squad – like the one that lost to Bangladesh – could be sent to Australia.

Strauss concerned about 2011 World Cup

London, September 04: The England and Wales Cricket Board’s decision to scrap their domestic 50 over tournament in favour of Pro40 and an extended Twenty20 league, have drawn skipper Andrew Strauss’ concern. Strauss understandably feels that the lack of 50 over competition would hurt England in the preparation for the 2011 World Cup.

“My personal view is that domestic cricket should mirror international cricket so in that respect playing 40-over cricket is not ideal,” said Strauss.
