NIIT academy extends its presence in AP

Hyderabad, June 20: Secondary School and Intermediate Education Minister D Manikya Vara Prasad today inaugurated NIIT MindChampions Academy in 2005 additional Government schools in Andhra Pradesh.

NIIT MindChampions Academy is a joint initiative of NIIT and World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand to promote Chess among young kids in schools.

The Academy had extended its presence in 2668 Government Schools.

Italian police arrest 14 in crackdown on child pornography

Rome, June 20: Italian police have arrested 14 people and placed more than 250 under investigation in a major crackdown on online child pornography, Italian media reported Saturday.

The police operation was being carried out countrywide and involved the search of hundreds of homes, according to the reports. Authorities in Catania and Sicily were leading the investigation.

Five young men rape girl, circulate MMS

Mumbai, June 20: Five young men allegedly raped a 19-year-old college student and circulated a video clip of the assault in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Three men have been arrested, police said Saturday.

On May 14 the girl accompanied one of the accused to a room in Hotel Sai Pooja in Thane on the outskirts of Mumbai when she was allegedly raped by five men. However, a complaint was lodged by the girl June 19.

Saudi not to allow Israeli flights over its territory

Abu Dhabi, June 20: Saudi Arabia has denied media reports that it intends to allow Israeli military planes to fly over its airspace. ”These reports are totally false and baseless,” an official source at the Ministry of Defense and Aviation said.

The source also denied reports that Saudi military officials had met with their Israeli counterparts to discuss the issue. ”The source expressed surprise over such false media reports,” the Saudi Press Agency said.

AP Govt to start mobile hospitals : Minister

Tirupati, June 20: Minister Mr Parthasarathy has said that its government is planning to start mobile hospitals in a year or two in the state.

At a review meeting with the district veterinary doctors at a star hotel here yesterday, the Minister said the livestock playing a key role in the countrys growth rate and the state government allocated Rs 600 crore in the budget for the dairy development against Rs 200 crore during the TDP government tenure.

18-year-old domestic help held hostage, raped by employer

New Delhi, June 20: An 18-year-old domestic help was allegedly held hostage for three days and raped by her 50-year-old employer in Rajouri Garden area of West Delhi.

Police officers said the victim managed to escape on Thursday night and filed a complaint at the local police station.

According to police officers investigating the case, the victim is a resident of West Bengal. Accused Paramjeet Singh, a widower, had employed her through a placement agency in Rajouri Garden around three days ago.

Four arrested for Bhajanpura petrol pump murder, robbery

New Delhi, June 20: Four days after an employee of a petrol pump in Bhajanpura was robbed and murdered, the South Delhi police have arrested four people they claim were the assailants.

On June 15, petrol pump employee Baldev Singh was killed and Rs 8.5 lakh in cash robbed from him when he was on his way to deposit the money in a bank, just across the road from the pump.

Lizard Found In Mid-Day Meal At A Primary School In Indore

Indore, June 19: The free meal programme, which has been started for the benefit of around 12 crore school kids, has taken the form of a health risk as the cases of dead animals in mid-day meal are increasing day by day.

The new case in the list is from Madhya Pradesh where a lizard found on Wednesday, in the lunch served to pupils at a primary government school at Neelkanth colony in Indore district.

The school help Kamla Bai spot the lizard in the food and at once informed Principal Badrinarayan Rathore, who stopped the food from being distributed to kids and informed the NGO.

Woman fined 1.9 million dollars for illegal download

Washington, June 19: A court in the United States laid down a 1.9-million-dollar fine against a Minnesota woman who illegally downloaded 24 songs from the internet, CNN reported.

The trial against Jammie Thomas-Rasset was the first case in the United States for such copyright infringement, CNN quoted her lawyer as saying.

The 32-year-old mother of four was shocked by the fine as the price tag for legally downloading the songs that would have cost 99 cents each and planned to appeal, he said.

US passenger plane lands safely after pilot dies

Washington, June 19: A Continental airlines pilot died at the controls of a plane en route from Brussels to Newark, New Jersey.

The two first officers onboard, who have extensive experience flying the Boeing 777, landed the plane Thursday with 247 passengers on board in Newyork, according to broadcast images.

The plane was met by emergency vehicles in response to what CNN said was a “declared emergency”.

CNN quoted a statement from Continental that the 61-year-old captain of the flight died of natural causes while piloting the plane.
