According to a close friend, for Nadiadwala, casting Vindu was a tribute to Tabu whose family was like his own family once.

SC relief to Mayawati, declines to stay statue installations

New Delhi, July 10: In a major relief to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the Supreme Court today declined to stay the installations of statues in Noida.

The court refused to issue a stay order on the installation of Bhaujan Samaj Party supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s statues in a Noida park.

A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P. Sathasivam said it would not intervene in the matter.

In its order, the Supreme Court said that the court cannot intervene in such matters until and unless a case of misappropriation of fund is made.

Sri Lanka asks ICRC to scale down operations

Colombo, July 10: Sri Lankan authorities have ordered the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to cut back its relief operations across the South Asian country.

Colombo government sources said the decision was taken because there was no more fighting in the Island.

The instruction comes after the government forces defeated the forces belonging to Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in May.

ICRC has closed four offices and withdrawn its expatriate staff from Sri Lanka’s eastern regions following the government demand, according to a statement from the ICRC.

Arad: Palestinians have no leadership

Jerusalem, July 10: One of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest advisers has declared that ‘there is no Palestinian leadership’ to act as partner in peace talks.

Netanyahu’s national security adviser, Uzi Arad, questioned whether Israel’s government has a Palestinian negotiating partner who can deliver peace.

“I … do not see a Palestinian leadership or a Palestinian regime, but a disorderly constellation of forces and factions,” Arad said on Thursday indicating deep skepticism about prospects for peace.

India Shooter Shines At South Asian Shooting Championships

Dhaka, July 10: Indian shooters raised their medal tally to 20 gold medals, 10 silver and 5 bronze medals as they won six gold medals in the 8 events on the fourth day of the South Asian Shooting championships in Bangladesh.

India’s Harveen Srao won gold medal in women’s 10m air pistol event with a score of 479.5 while Heena Shidhu bagged the bronze medal in the same event.

Indian Ashok Pandit shot 566 to win the gold medal in the 25m standard pistol event and Vijay Kumar won the silver with the score of 561, while Pakistan’s Mustakim Shah won the bronze medal with 551.

Harper backs umpire referral system

London, July 10: ICC’s elite panel umpire Daryl Harper has supported the Umpire Decision Referral System, to be rolled-out in Tests from October, saying it had increased their percentage of correct decisions to 98 per cent during the trial series.

Egyptian delegation in WB ahead of unity talks

China blames Qaeda for ethnic unrests

Beijing, July 10: Chinese authorities hint that terrorists with links with al-Qaeda were involved in Xinjiang ethnic clashes that have killed over 150 people in the region.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang said the Beijing government has evidence to show that rioters had links with al-Qaida and other similar groups based in some foreign countries.

Qin also added that China expected cooperation from neighboring countries to safeguard peace and stability in the region.

WICB-WIPA contract row continues

London, July 10: The contract row between the West Indies Cricket Board and its mainstream players continued after the WICB refused to negotiate with the cricketers until they ended their strike.

A WICB Negotiating Team met with the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) here yesterday after the players, who have not been offered contracts for four successive series, boycotted the fifth unpaid series, against Bangladesh.
