BJP protest against 1975 emergency during Indira Gandhi’s rule

The state BJP workers today organised a protest rally against the emergency imposed by former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi in 1975 and called it the “black day in country’s history”.

Hundreds of BJP workers led by senior party leader Bhanwar Lal Sharma today organised a protest rally beginning from Ramniwas Bag at New Gate, police said.

“It was a misrule of Congress party when Gandhi had imposed emergency and put people and political leaders inside jail,” Panchariya said while addressing the gathering.

“It was the black day in the history of the country,” he added.

Ramayana museum to come up at Ayodhya but away from disputed

The government today announced that it would construct a Ramayana museum at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, which would portray the epic journey of Lord Rama, but sought to steer away from controversy saying it would be kept away from the disputed site there.

Union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma said the Centre has begun the process of identifying the land.

Modi should learn lesson from Emergency: Digvijay

Recalling that Congress got a drubbing in 1977 polls following imposition of Emergency by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today said that is a lesson every political party and leader should learn, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Well for that (Emergency), Mrs Indra Gandhi apologised for that herself. Therefore, we got drubbing in 1977 elections because of that. That was lesson which everyone should learn, including Mr Modi”, Singh told reporters here today.

Fake degrees have become a political trend: Uddhav Thackeray

Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray took potshots at the BJP here today and said that it has become a trend to display fake degrees.

“It has become a trend in politics to display fake degrees. Simply do the right thing. Why run behind false things,” Thackeray said, without naming anybody including Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde or Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, at a book launch function in suburban Dadar.

However, a senior Sena leader said that Uddhav Thackeray’s remarks were also aimed at Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, whose fake degree case has reached court.

Emergency was a very personal experience for Kartik Nijhawan, 21, who grew up with his father telling him stories from the Emergency period.

Telangana rejects Andhra’s claim over institutions

The Telangana government on Thursday made it clear that Andhra Pradesh has no right over institutions listed under Schedule 10 of tje Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

A day after Andhra Pradesh appointed director general of the Centre for Good Governance (CGG) located in Hyderabad, Telangana said the neighbouring state has no right to do so when there is already a director general appointed by Telangana heading the institution.

Telangana’s Advocate General Ramakrishna Reddy said Telangana alone is entitled to get revenues from the institutions listed under the schedule.

Describing the AAP government’s maiden budget as one for the poor and middle classes, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said it was a historic budget as it endeavoured to fulfill the hopes of the common man.

Posecutor says NIA asked to go soft in Malegaon case, agency

Kicking up a row, the Special Public Prosecutor in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case in which some Hindu extremists are accused alleged that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had asked her to “go soft” in the case after the NDA Government assumed power, a charge the agency rejected as “incorrect”.

Rohini Salian, the SPP in the case,alleged that she was approached by an NIA officer in person, apparently on instructions from “higher-ups”.

Advani missing from event on Emergency but Amit Shah was in

The absence of BJP leader L K Advani at an event to mark 40 years of Emergency, where party chief Amit Shah was the main speaker and organised by a party-affiliated body, set off speculation whether the veteran leader was not invited.

A stalwart of the opposition’s crusade against the Emergency, Advani was missing at the event organised by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Research Foundation.

The Foundation’s treasurer Shyam Jaju, who is BJP’s vice-president, insisted that Advani was invited.

Shah declined to answer to reporters’ queries on the matter.

Budget aims at Rs 41,500 crore revenue: Sisodia

Finance Minister Manish Sisodia today estimated a total revenue of Rs 41,500 crore in fiscal year 2015-16, from the budget proposals.

While presenting Delhi budget Sisodia said, “The Estimates of total Receipts in 2015-16 is Rs 41,500 crore which is Rs 3,731 crore more than the Receipts of Rs 37,769 crore approved in the Vote on Account. With the proposed Estimates of Receipts and Expenditure there will be a surplus of Rs 371 crore.”

“Cash row” is criminal case, says Bhanwar Lal

In a new twist to “cash for vote” row that fumbled the Andhra Pradesh Government and flummoxed its Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his alleged voice in the audio tapes, Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal today stated said it is a criminal and corruption case. When scribes met him at Secretariat here on Thursday evening, Bhanwar Lal said that either ACB or police can file a case against this criminal and corruption row. The Election Commission will take necessary action on it only after the court delivers its verdict, the he stated.

CEC seeks audio, video tapes of Cash-for-Vote scam

The Central Election Commission (CEC) here on Thursday filed a Memo in the ACB Court seeking Audio and Video tapes of ‘Cash-for-Vote’ case.
Responding to the CEC appeal, ACB informed the CEC through the Court that it has already submitted Audio and Video tapes to the Court and made it clear that it was not possible to give a copy. The ACB said it could give a Court certified copy only. The CEC official examined the certified copies and he may take them along with him. (NSS)

Verdict on Mattaiah’s plea put off to Monday

The Hyderabad High Court today postponed its judgment on grant of stay on arrest of A-4 in the ‘Cash-for-Vote’ case Mattaiah Jerusalem to June 29. The Court also postponed its verdict on change of Judge sought by nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson. Due to the postponement of the Special Court’s verdict, the stay on arrest of Mattaiah Jerusalem automatically adjourned to Monday.
