India Post launches sale of Godavari Pushakaram water

The Department of Posts, A. P circle, launched sale of sacred Godavari Pushkaram Water (God-Jal) through Post Offices in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states during the ensuing Godavari Pushkaram period from 14th to 25th July.

Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy on Wednesday claimed that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu is the main accused in the ‘Cash for Vote’ case.

TDP MLA A Revanth Reddy was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on May 31 for trying to bribe nominated Anglo-Indian MLA Elvis Stephenson to vote in favour of his party candidate Vem Narender Reddy in MLC elections. Presently, he is lodged in Cherlapally Central Prison.

Cabs drivers, staff donate blood to mark Telangana Formation Day

Nearly 100 people, including 40 cabs drivers, donated their blood on the eve of celebration of first anniversary of Telangana State formation.

The blood donation camp was organised by Noori Travels and Sky Cabs, in collaboration with Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) and Thalassemia Society, at Khairabad here on Wednesday. TS Govt forms DPC for promotions in Police Dept

Water Board appeals staff not to go on strike

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials on Wednesday claimed that the PRC recommendations for HMWSSB staff is under active consideration of the State Government.

“As soon as the State Government gives clearance, the necessary PRC recommendations will be implemented. The HMWSSB appeals to the staff and workers not to resort to any agitation and cause hardship to customers, particularly in the wake of ESMA being in vogue in HMWSSB,” the Board said in its appeal on Wednesday. Somesh Kumar to continue as GHMC Special Officer

The Telangana Government on Wednesday issued orders extending the term of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Somesh Kumar as Special Officer for a further period of six months.

Somesh Kumar, who was the then Commissioner, was made the Special Officer on December 4 after the completion of five-year term of GHMC’s elected council. Since fresh elections are yet to be held for the GHMC, the State Government extended the term of Somesh Kumar for six more months or till the elected council assumes office, whichever is earlier. Terming terrorism as a serious challenge for the international community, President Pranab Mukherjee today said the ideas of truth, dialogue and non-violence espoused by Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi provide the best way forward.

“What is terrorism. What is the definition of terrorism. Terrorism has no respect for religion, border or nationalities. It believes in only one thing and that is wanton destruction. Today terrorism is a serious challenge for international community,” Mukherjee said at Uppsala University here.

Gujarat govt to celebrate World Yoga Day on a grand scale

The Gujarat government has prepared a detailed plan to celebrate World Yoga Day on a grand scale across the state on June 21, a Sunday.

The celebrations are part of the pan-India celebrations to be carried out by the Centre after the United Nations (UN) had recently announced to celebrate the day on June 21, an official release said.

For the state-level celebrations, a central committee has been set up under the chairmanship of state Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, it said.

Govt to introduce bill on SC, ST in LS: Gehlot

Amid Congress attacking the NDA government of allowing to lapse an ordinance to strengthen the SCs and STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, the Centre today said it will introduce the bill in Lok Sabha.

“The report of the Standing Committee has come. The Union cabinet on April 30 had decided to introduce the bill in its present form in Lok Sabha. We will try to get it passed by the House and we will succeed in that also,” Union Social Justice Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot told reporters here.

Andhra Pradesh HRD minister releases DSC results

Results of the District Selection Committee (DSC-2014) for 10,313 posts of government teachers in Andhra Pradesh were announced here on Tuesday.

Releasing the results, AP HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that out of 3,68,161, candidates, who appeared for DSC across the state, 37.57 per cent of candidates (1,38,344) qualified in the exam.

A district wise merit list will be out by June 9, he said.

4 killed as truck hits jeep carrying marriage party in UP

Four persons, including two minors, were killed and 20 others injured when a jeep carrying marriage party was hit by a truck in Sahaswan area here triggering protest by locals, police said today.

Achchan (18), Gurveer Singh (15), Brijesh (12) and an unidentified person were killed when the jeep in which they were travelling was hit by the truck on Delhi route last night, Additional Superintendent of Police Balendu Bhushan Singh said.

20 persons were injured in the accident and were admitted to the hospital, he said, adding, condition of five injured was stated to be critical.

UoH among the Top 25 ‘Socioversities’ in India

The city-based University of Hyderabad has been ranked 22 in the top 25 ‘Socioversities’ in the country, in a survey conducted by Career360, an online portal for higher education rating and career counseling in India. Career 360, which is an initiative of the Outlook group, describes Socioversity as a “pioneering attempt to identify and rank universities that have been most effective in harnessing the power of new media”. More than 750 Central, State, Deemed and Private Universities and Institutions were surveyed for this study.
