Gaza militants fire rocket at Israel

Militants in the Gaza Strip on Saturday fired a rocket at Israel, a second such attack from the Palestinian enclave that hit the Jewish state in less than a week, Israeli officials said.

A statement by the Israeli army said the rocket exploded in an open field in the southern town of Ashkelon, causing no injuries or damages, Xinhua news agency reported.

On Wednesday, two rockets had hit southern Israel. Israeli warplanes carried an airstrike at “terror targets” in response, a military spokesperson said.

Atali clash: Court stays construction of mosque till June 9

A local court today extended the stay on the construction of the mosque, which is at the centre of the communal row, by three more days after defendants failed to respond to the petition.

The petition was filed by Suresh Chaudhary, a resident of Faridabad’s Atali village which was rocked by communal clash on May 25 over construction of the mosque on a land which the other side clams that belonged to village panchayat.

On June 5, Judicial Magistrate Puneet Sehgal had sought reply from the defendant Muslim side and had stayed the construction of the mosque by a day.

Confident of fair solution to river water sharing issues: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today exuded confidence of reaching a “fair solution” to the long-pending Teesta and Feni rivers water sharing issues with Bangladesh.

The Teesta issue was understood to have figured during a brief interaction between Modi, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee here.

Woman delivers baby at hospital gate in e-rickshaw

In an alleged case of apathy, a 35-year-old woman delivered a baby in an e-rickshaw outside a Delhi government hospital in Narela.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, when the woman developed labour pains and was rushed to the hospital in e-rickshaw.

Around 00:50 AM, the husband went inside the hospital seeking help for the delivery.

The family of the woman alleged that they went to a doctor who passed them to another doctor who in turn asked them to talk the ward-boy. All this took half-an-hour during which the woman had delivered the baby.

2 women Naxals killed in police encounter

Two women Naxals were killed in an encounter with police in Kondgaon district of Chhattisgarh today, police said.

Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) Deepanshu Kabra said that police raided a Naxal camp in a forest near Kimdi village under Dhanora police station limits.

In the ensuing exchange of fire with Naxals, two women cadres were killed, he said.

Police also seized weapons and other material left behind by the rebels, apart from recovering the bodies of two women, who were yet to be identified.

Huge lava lake spotted on moon orbiting Jupiter

A US radio telescope has captured images of an enormous lava lake on the surface of Io, one of the moons orbiting the planet Jupiter, the Puerto Rico Astronomy Society (PRAS) reported.

“The new images clearly show an enormous lake of lava, fed from the subsoil and which exists permanently,” PRAS vice president, professor and scientist Armando Caussade said in a statement.

The Large Binocular Telescope Observatory in Arizona was the one that spotted the mass of lava in the region known as Loki Patera, a volcanic pit measuring approximately 200 kilometers (124 miles) in diameter.

Welder dies in accident at workplace

A 37-year-old welder died of grievous injuries which he sustained when a machine he was working on fell on him.

According to Sanathnagar police, the deceased, Damodar Raju, met with the accident at his workplace in an engineering workshop in Mooospet on Friday evening. He was immediately rushed to Gandhi Hospital where he was declared brought dead. He was a resident of Moospet. (INN)

A 25-year-old housewife committed suicide allegedly due to harassment for more dowry.

According to Medipally police, the victim, S Pavani, took the extreme step by hanging to the ceiling at her residence in Parvatha Nagar on Friday night. She was allegedly being harassed by her husband Srikanth Reddy for additional dowry. Police began investigation after registering a case.

Class 9th girl gang-raped by school mates in Noida

A ninth standard girl was allegedly raped by two youth in Dankaur area here today.

The victim had gone for shopping at a local market when the two youth, who also studied in her school, met her and asked her to accompany them at a room, police said.

The girl was allegedly raped by them at the room and later on hearing her screams some neighbours came to her rescue, police said.

On seeing the neighbours the accused fled from the spot.

Police said that a manhunt has been launched to arrest the two youth and the victim has been sent for medical examination.

Maggie noodles samples being tested in city

Samples of Maggi instant noodles, which is under controversy now, are being tested at a lab here as part of the nationwide exercise over the alleged presence of mono-sodium glutamate (MSG) and lead in their food products.

“We have taken 22 samples from our state. We have sent them for screening. Actual reporting time is two weeks maximum,” an official of Director of Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM), Telangana, said.The testing was being done as part of the nationwide drive on the directives from the Central food safety body, he added.
