Two washed away in Bhadrachalam

Two devotees reportedly washed away in the river Godavari at temple town Bhadrachalam in Khammam district on Sunday morning.

According to reports, some 40 persons from Reddigudem village under Nuzvid mandal of Krishna district arrived in Bhadrachalam town to have a darshan of Lord Srirama. While all of them were bathing in the river, Variboyina Vaddilu, 30, and Maralaballi Gopi, 18, washed away in the river.

GHMC sets up 81 teams to desilt nalas and drains

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set up 81 teams to tackle rain related problems during the rainy season.

The action plan, including removal of silt from nalas and drains to prevent stagnation of rain water in localities, is being implemented on a war-footing, GHMC special commissioner Somesh Kumar has said. He directed the officials to keep him informed about day-to-day works of the action plan.

Blood donation awareness camp at Raahgiri

Former China Communist Party official Qiao Shi dies at 91

Qiao Shi, a senior Communist Party official and former chairman of China’s legislature, has passed away at the age of 91 in Beijing.

Qiao succumbed to an unspecified illness, for which he was being treated, on Sunday morning, reported Fox News.

He was a member of China’s Politburo Standing Committee for a decade since 1987 and also served as the chairman of the country’s top legislature, the National People’s Congress, from 1993 to 1998. (ANI)

BJP criticises Nitish Kumar for barbs on party, Amit Shah

Retaliating to Nitish Kumar’s barbs on BJP and party president Amit Shah over Yoga Day celebrations, the Bharatiya Janata Party today termed the chief minister’s remark as “inappropriate” saying it was an outcome of his “shallow mindset”.

“The Bihar Chief Minister has made an inappropriate remark against BJP chief Amit Shah to showcase his shallow mindset,” former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said in a statement.

Kumar had yesterday attacked the BJP for seeking cheap publicity in promotion of the International Yoga Day and advised Shah to do regular yoga to stay fit.

Accusing the Union government of not taking “stern action” against pro-Pakistani separatists, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Pravin Togadia today said those who hoist Pakistani flags in Kashmir must be “shot”.

Hindi, 3 Indian languages find place in Dubai driving tests

Four Indian languages including Hindi can be chosen while appearing for driving tests here in the UAE from September.

Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, Chinese, Russian and Persian languages can be opted by aspiring drivers besides the three existing languages for both theory tests as well as eight mandatory lectures.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which currently conducts tests in three languages – English, Urdu and Arabic, will offer knowledge tests and lectures in seven more languages from September.

Mistrust runs deep between communities in riot-torn Atali village

Three weeks after over 20 houses were demolished and burnt over a disputed shrine in Atali village of Haryana’s Ballabgarh district, the police is yet to make any arrest in the case.

The DSP of Tigaon, Vishnu Dayal, said that FIR has been lodged against 62 to 70 people in connection with this case.

“We are waiting for the situation to become calmer to make any arrests in the case,” he added.

Atali, 12 kms from Ballabgarh, resembles a fortress with police teams and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel guarding each and every alley of the village.

‘Need no certificate from anyone on BJP’s performance’

Responding to the allegations levelled by BSP supremo Mayawati on Centre and UP government, BJP and SP today hit out at her saying that she should first remember scams during her own regime.

BDL blast victim dies at hospital

One of the five persons, who were injured in an explosion at Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) premises in Kanchanbagh area on Saturday, died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Apollo DRDO Hospital.

The deceased, Naveen Goud, succumbed to the burn injuries on Sunday morning. He had suffered 90% burns. He was a casual employee of BDL.

The blast occurred on Saturday in BDL, a defence PSU, when a small quantity of “waste explosives” went off while being disposed of. (INN)

Somireddy criticises Governor’s silence on KCR’s beheviour

TDP senior leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has accused Governor ESL Narasimhan of acting in a partisan manner.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Somireddy alleged that the Governor has remained silent on the ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘non-democratic’ decisions of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He pointed out that the High Court has objected and set aside more than 10 major decisions taken by the TRS Government. However, the Governor did not question KCR on any of his decisions.

TS legislators’ team leaves for Delhi on study-tour

A 30-member team, led by Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, on Sunday evening left for New Delhi on a study tour.

The team, comprising of Transport Minister Mahender Reddy and other legislators from Greater Hyderabad and senior officials of GHMC, HMWSSB and other departments, will visit New Delhi on Monday while it will go to Nagpur on Tuesday. During the visit, the team members will study the lifting of garbage in Delhi and Nagpur and will also visit a power plant at Jahangirpur in Delhi where electricity is being generated using garbage.

Eatala to remain hospitalised for two more days

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, who was injured in a car accident near Karimnagar on Saturday, is now hale and healthy.

According to the doctors at Yashoda Hospital, where the minister was shifted from Karimnagar, said that Eatala’s condition is completely stable. However, they advised him rest for two more days. Therefore, the minister is expected to be discharged on Wednesday. The doctors have also advised the TRS workers not to visit the hospital and disturb him.
