Doctor dies during Yoga event

A 61-year-old doctor died while participating in a Yoga event in Sahara Estate in Vanasthalipuram area on Sunday.

Dr. Veera Reddy collapsed while performing Yoga at an event organised to mark International Yoga Day. He was immediately rushed to Global Hospitals where he was declared brought dead. He is suspected to have died due to a severe heart attack. (INN)

Road Accidents: 3 persons killed today

A 49-year-old woman succumbed to the injuries which she sustained when the motorcycle, on which she was a pillion rider, was hit by a water tanker.

The accident occurred near Bandlaguda cross roads on Saturday when the victim, BS Sashikala, was travelling on a motorcycle along with her son Eshwar. Both sustained injuries and were rushed to KIMS for treatment. Sashikala died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment, Rajendra Nagar police said.

Three persons commit suicide in different areas

A newly-wed woman committed suicide allegedly due to harassment by her husband and in-laws for more dowry.

According to Chandanagar police, Isha Phani, was married to one Bala Kishore of Chanda Nagar about two months ago. However, Kishore and his relatives were harassing Isha for more dowry for the past few days. Unable to bear the harassment, Isha resorted to the extreme step by hanging to the ceiling on Saturday night. Police have registered a case under Sections 304 B and 394 DP Act and began investigations.

Telangana is the third welfare State in India: KCR

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday claimed that the implementation of several welfare schemes was bringing lot of popularity to Telangana State and presently it stands third in the list of welfare States in the country.

Addressing a review meeting on Haritha Haram and housing at Dr MCR HRD Institute at Jubilee Hills here on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that officials should work hard to ensure proper implementation of welfare schemes. Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma, DGP Anurag Sharma and other senior officials were also present.

International Yoga Day observed at Sri City

In line with the call given by the United Nations General Assembly, Sri City community observed the ‘International Yoga Day’ on Sunday.

About 150 people, including the children and executives of Sri City and its units took part in the programme that commenced at 6 am.

Suresh, Yoga guru from Ramakrishna Mission, Chennai administered the event and performed surya namaskaras and various asanas. Highlighting the benefits of each of the exercise he performed, Suresh said they all aim to integrate the body and the mind.

Old City youth receives Guinness World records in Taekwondo

Mohammed Abdul Rehan, 34, from the Old City of Hyderabad, has achieved dual Guinness World record in an event of Martial Arts.

Rehan achieved dual Guinness world records of participating in the largest Taekwondo display and most full contact 56,148 kicks in one hour by a team. The event was held by Taekwondo Jidokwan Sports Federation India in Secunderabad last month and he has now received his Guinness World records certificates by Grand Master M. Jayanth Reddy.

47 Islamic nations join International Yoga Day

There are 47 Islamic nations among the 177 countries of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that officially co-sponsored with India a resolution to establish June 21 as “International Day of Yoga”.

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice rooted in Hindu tradition, a religious origin that has caused disquiet among some Indian Muslim clerics.

This is the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UN General Assembly resolution, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The resolution was passed unopposed without a vote.

Naidu announces Rs 25 cr to conduct yoga programmes in AP

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today announced that the state government will provide Rs 25 crores for conduction of regular yoga programmes in the state by the AYUSH department.

“The government will allocate Rs 25 crore for the AYUSH department to organise yoga classes in the state,” Naidu said while participating in the state-level International Yoga Day celebrations at a convention hall here.

Rains lash Delhi after Yoga Day celebration at Rajpath

Showers swept across the national capital today minutes after the mega International Yoga Day event ended at Rajpath, thus giving much needed respite to Delhiites from the sweltering heat.

The rains were preceded by gusts which brought down several temporary structures at Rajpath put up for the event and scattered the carpets laid over the premier avenue.

The MeT recorded the minimum temperature at 28.5 degrees Celsius and has forecast rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. Similar weather conditions would prevail till June 25, it said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving an international status to yoga and said it should be kept away from religion and politics.

Narayana slams AP govt for serving notice to T-News Channel

Condemning the issuance of notices to T-News Channel by the AP government, CPI senior leader Dr K Narayana demanded that the Chandrababu government withdraw notices served on T News Channel immediately.

Call tenders for Godowns constructions: Harish

Irrigation and Marketing Minister T Harish Rao today directed the officials to sanction 200 posts sanctioned by the government and take steps to allot more posts in the marketing department. Harish directed to call tenders for construction of storage houses with financial assistance of Nabard by expediting land acquisition process. During a high level review meeting on strengthening marketing system to provide all facilities to farmers to procure their produce, Harish said that steps should be taken to install 30 more market committees to increase the existing 150 committees to 180.

Missing man found dead near Dundigal

A 70-year-old man, who was missing from his home, was found dead under suspicious circumstances.

According to Dundigal police, the highly decomposed body of Md Moulana was found in Porampet area on Friday evening. He was missing from his house in Saibaba Nagar of Suraram since June 10. Police began investigation after registering a case of suspicious death under Section 174 for mysterious death. (INN)
