Discovery Homeowners Not Happy with Cut in Service Charges

Dubai, June 23: A cut in service charges at Discovery Gardens by Nakheel has failed to placate apartment owners.

The master developer vowed on Monday to lower service charges by Dh5 per square feet. However, residents claim that the reduction was insufficient.

Michael Aldendorff, spokesman for the 150 apartment owners who have signed a petition to lower the fees, said that the group was considering legal action.

“There is no way that Nakheel can justify these exorbitant service charges,” he said. “We do not even have swimming pools yet, but we pay more than other areas.

Islamabad, June 22: Pakistan’s former foreign secretary Shahryar Khan says he has “no reason to doubt” that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose died in a plane crash in 1945.

“I have no reason to doubt Habib-ur-Rehman’s story of Bose’s death, and I believe it ought to put to rest many of the theories (and conspiracy theories) regarding the death of the charismatic Indian nationalist leader,” Khan wrote in the Friday Times quoting Habib-ur-Rehman, a former Brigadier of the Indian National Army who was with Bose on the ill-fated aircraft.

Albert Einstein’s photo sold for 49,300 pounds

London, June 22: A rare picture of legendary physicist Albert Einstein was sold for 49,300 pounds.

The 1951 photo of the genius with his tongue out, taken at Princeton University in the US, was auctioned off Thursday on the website RRAuction.com, reported imbd.com.

The photo, which was taken at a party to mark the physicist’s 72nd birthday, was bought by a rare books and autographs dealer from Long Island, New York.

Developing countries’ GDP to slow to 1.2%: World Bank

Washington, June 22: The World Bank on Monday estimated economic growth in developing countries of 1.2 percent this year, and said that without China and India, output would shrink 1.6 percent.

Amid the worst global financial and economic crisis in seven decades, the multilateral institution eight days ago lowered its outlook on global growth, to a contraction of 3.0% this year.

It slightly revised the global gross domestic product (GDP) figure on Monday, to a 2.9% decline.

Thefts on the Rise As Police Feel Isolated

Dubai, June 22: Developing property estates without involving the police — coupled with poor security by private companies — has seen a rise in house break-ins and burglaries, a top Dubai Police official said on Sunday.

Dubai Police Criminal Control Department Director Jamal Al Jalaf said 173 homes in Dubai had been burgled in the first quarter of this year. Though corresponding figures for last year were not available, he said they were up, a rise he attributed to real estate expansion in the emirate.

Ingredients:

15 pieces boneless Fish
21/2 tbsp Corn Flour / Corn Starch
11/2 tbsp Soya Sauce
11/2 tbsp Vinegar
3/4 cup Chicken Stock
3tbsp Spring Onions (chopped)
2 tbsp Tomato Sauce
1 tsp Ginger Paste
Salt to taste
Pepper Powder to taste
11/2 tbsp Sugar
A pinch ajinomoto
Oil to fry
2 tbsp oil

Preparation of sweet sour fish :

Take 1tbsp soya sauce, 1 tbsp corn flour, salt & pepper in a bowl and form a mixture.
Cover fish pieces with the above mixture evenly.
Heat oil in a wok / kadhai and deep fry the fish pieces till golden brown.
