Luke Pomersbach, the Royal Challengers Bangalore player, who was arrested and later got interim bail on Friday on charges of molesting an American woman, will again appear in a Delhi court on Saturday.

The court will decide whether the Australian player’s bail should be extended or he should be sent to police custody.

The Australian cricketer, arrested on charges of molesting an American woman in a hotel Thursday night, was on Friday granted interim bail for a day by the Delhi court.

Two devotees Friday donated Sri Sai Baba gold worth Rs 60 lakh at his temple here, Shirdi Sansthan sources said.

A devotee from Delhi donated a 1.5 kg gold bell, while a person from Mumbai offered a 900 gm gold pot before Sri Sai Baba.

During the last five years, Sansthan has received various gold offerings from devotees, sources said, adding that now the total gold in Sri Sai Baba’s treasure is 280 kg while silver is 3,000 kg, besides diamonds worth Rs three crore.

Pakistan has been ranked second in the list of most negatively rated countries in the world by a global poll for BBC World Service, which surveyed 24,090 people around the world.

Pakistan was rated “mostly negative” by 51% of the respondents, getting placed just one spot above the most negatively rated country – Iran, which was rated negative by 55% of the total respondents, reports The Express Tribune.

Most of the respondents blamed Pakistan’s foreign policy and the poor treatment of its citizens for such a widespread negative perception of the country.

Zardari leaves for US to attend NATO summit

President Asif Ali Zardari has left for Chicago to attend a NATO summit as Pakistan mulls the reopening of supplies for the coalition forces in Afghanistan, a media report said on Friday.

Zardari will be in Chicago for the 25th NATO Summit being held May 20-21 at the invitation of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, reported Geo News.

The Foreign Office said the decision to attend the summit was taken after both the defence committee of cabinet and federal cabinet endorsed the invitation.

Zardari would address an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) meeting.

Rupee tanks to fresh all-time low of 54.89 against US dollar

The rupee on Friday plunged to a new all-time low of 54.89 against the US dollar as capital outflows continued, raising widespread concerns about the health of the economy.

Forex dealers attributed the fall to strong capital outflows in tune with the fall in local as well as global stocks where investors are increasingly avoiding riskier assets and moving to the new safe haven – the US dollar.

Strengthening of dollar against the euro, which plunged to a four-month low following renewed worries over deepening eurozone debt crisis, also put pressure on the rupee.

SBI Q4 profit surges to Rs 4,050.27 crore

Country’s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday posted net profit of Rs 4,050.27 crore in the fourth quarter ended March 2012, against just Rs 20.88 crore recorded in Q4 of the previous fiscal.

SBI profits had taken a big hit in Q4 of 2010-11 on account of higher provisioning for bad loans and increased tax outgo.

Total income of the bank rose to Rs 33,959.54 crore in the quarter against Rs 26,536.84 crore in the same quarter a year ago, SBI said in a filing on the BSE.

A federal judge has sentenced a former law student to 17 months in prison for using Twitter to incite prejudice and discrimination against people from Brazil’s impoverished northeast.

A court statement says that Judge Monica Camargo converted the sentence against Mayara Petruso to community service and a fine of about USD 250.

Petruso’s 2010 Twitter message urged people to kill northeastern Brazilians in reprisal for Dilma Rousseff’s victory in that year’s Presidential Election.

Jharkhand RS polls: CBI raids 15 MLAs’ houses

In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday conducted fresh raids on the residences of at least 15 MLAs in connection with the corruption and horse-trading allegations that marred the March 30 Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand.

According to reports, various teams of the CBI are conducting raids at nearly 32 places.

Among those whose residence have been raided are RJD MLA Sanjay Yadav and former BJP MLA Ajay Maru.
