Ramadan Special Aloo ke Pakode (Potato Pakode)

Aloo ke Pakode is everybody’s favorite in winters. They can be quickly made when guests arrive at home or in the evening when kids suddenly feel hungry.

Ingredients

2 Large potatoes peeled and sliced.

Ingredients for marinating potato slices

Salt to taste
¼ teaspoon black pepper powder
½ teaspoon chat masala
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Mix all these ingredients.
Coat these ingredients onto the potato slices and keep them aside.

Ingredients for batter

1 cup Besan (chickpea flour/Bengal gram flour)
1” finely chopped ginger
1 finely chopped green chili

Ramadan Special Palak ke Pakode Recipe

Ingredients:
Spinach (Palak) – 250 grms
Onions – 250 grms,
Besan Powder – 150 grms,
Corn Flour Powder – 50 grms
Green Chili – 10 nos
Coriander-100 grms,
Curry leaves
Ginger Garlic paste – 1 tsp
Little Red Chilli Powder (if needed)
Salt to taste
Oil to fry

Method:
Clean Spinach and chop it finely.
Chop the Onions, Green Chili,Coriander, Curry Leaves finely.
Put Everything in to one big bowl, add besan poweder and corn flour powder + salt + ginger garlic paste and mix it with little water.

Salty diets tied to kidney stones, osteoporosis

People eating high salt diets tend to develop kidney stones and osteoporosis, a bone disease that leads to increased risk of fracture, says a study.

Principal investigator Todd Alexander from the University of Alberta and his team have uncovered an important link between sodium and calcium.

They appear to be regulated by the same molecule in the body. When sodium intake becomes too high, the body gets rid of sodium via the urine, taking calcium with it, which depletes calcium stores in the body.

Childhood obesity linked to bladder, urinary cancer

Obesity in childhood has a direct link with bladder and urinary tract (urothelial) and colorectal cancers in adulthood, warn Israeli researchers.

Hence, maintaining a healthy weight has become a dire necessity. Besides extra pounds are tied to the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and joint and muscle pain.

Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday met President-elect Pranab Mukherjee and congratulated him on being elected to the top post.

Banerjee, who will be attending tomorrow’s function for the swearing-in of Mukherjee as the next President, drove to his Talkatora Road residence straight from the Delhi airport soon after her arrival from Kolkata.

China establishes newest city on disputed island

Raising the ante in the disputed South China Sea, China on Tuesday announced setting up of an establishment in its newest city on a small island that is also claimed by Vietnam.

Beijing announced the formation of the new city Sansha and elected Xiao Jie (51) as its first mayor on the island.

China’s Central Television aired the ceremony of formal takeover by the new Mayor live.

The step comes close on the heels of the country’s powerful Central Military Authority approving the deployment of the military garrison in the new town, which is 13 hours by boat from the mainland.

Indian-origin man charged for fraud in UK

An unemployed Indian origin man has been charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit fraud by withdrawing nearly 280,000 pounds from a successful businesswoman’s account.

Scotland Yard detectives investigating the disappearance of 50-year-old Carole Waugh have charged Wembley-based Rakesh Bhayani, 40.

He appeared via virtual court at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Waugh was last seen in central London on May 4.

Assam violence: 21 dead; Rajdhani Exp attacked

Fresh violence on Tuesday rocked the trouble-torn Bodoland Territorial Administered Districts in Assam where the Rajdhani Express was attacked by some persons even as the entire train services to and from the Northeast was hit.

Unidentified persons pelted stones and attacked the coaches of the Guwahati-bound Rajdhani Express at Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district damaging four coaches, though there was no casualty or injuries, North East Frontier Railway sources said here.

Hillary Clinton underlines US efforts to combat AIDS

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has touted the US efforts to fight AIDS amid charges that Washington is lagging behind on combating the pandemic.

According to the UNAIDS, there are as many as 34 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS and as many as 2.5 million new diagnoses each year, Xinhua reported.

“So many of the people around the world have not been satisfied that we`ve done enough,” said Clinton while addressing a crowd of thousands at the International AIDS Conference in Washington D.C.

“But I am here” to fight for “a generation that is free of AIDS,” she said.

Oz researchers develop micro-motor to treat strokes

A team of Australian researchers has created a micro size motor that can be driven through the arteries of the brain.

The motor is about the size of a grain of salt and is said to have the equivalent power of a small kitchen appliance, according to a Australian newspaper.

It is invisible to the naked eye.

Bernard Yan of the Royal Melbourne Hospital`s neuro-intervention service said that it is new hope as the micromotor could be used to treat strokes and aneurisms.

“At this stage we are targeting the arteries of the brain,” he said.

Ramadan Special Hyderabadi Haleem

Ingredients:

Mutton-boneless, cubed – 1 kg
Cracked wheat- 1 kg, soaked in water for one hour and drained
Yogurt – 1 ½ cup
Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Onions-chopped fine – 1 ¼ cup
Green chilli paste – 1 tsp
Green coriander paste – 2 tsp
Lemon juice – ¼ cup
Black cardamoms-seeds – 3
Cinnamon-broken and powdered – ½ tsp
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Oil – 1/2cup
Salt to taste
Green chillies and mint leaves for garnish

Method:

Mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, chilli and coriander paste,
cardamom and cinnamon powder, chilli powder, ginger-garlic paste and salt.

Ramadan Special Dahi Vada

Ingredients: :
For Wada:
1 Cup Urad daal
Salt to taste
Oil to fry
For Dahi :
1 kg Dahi (yogurt)
1/2 tsp grated Ginger
Finely chopped coriander leaves
1-2 green chilies chopped
Salt to taste
2 tsp Roasted cumin(jeera)powder
Red chili powder to taste

Preparation:
For Bada – Clean, wash and soak the daal overnight.
Grind it into smooth paste.
Add salt to taste.
Heat oil in a pan and drop a spoonfuls of batter and fry till golden brown.
Take the hot vadas and put in cold water for 2-3 minutes.
Now Take them out of water and squeeze the water and keep aside.

Ramadan Special Recipe..”Fruit Chaat”

Ingredients

– 1 Apple
– 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
– 2 Bananas
– 1 Tsp Cummin Seeds, Roasted
– 1 Pomegranate
– 2 Tbsp Castor Sugar
– 1/2 Cup Grapes
– 3/4 Tsp Salt
– 2 Guavas
– 1/2 Tsp Red Chilly Powder
– 2 Oranges
– 1/4 Tsp Chaet Masala
– 1/2 -3/4 Cup Choley, Soaked Overnight With 1 Tsp Baking Soda
– 1 Potato Boiled And Diced
– orange Juice 1 Cup

Instructions

Peel the fruits and cut them into cubes. Mix in all the remaining ingredients. Refrigerate and serve cold.

NCP will remain part of UPA, support govt: Patel

In an effort to pacify Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Defence Minister AK Antony on Saturday said that all ministers are equal in the union cabinet.

“There is no senior or junior cabinet ministers … all are equal,” Antony told reporters replying to a question on the sulking United Progressive Alliance (UPA) ally.

The Congress Friday had reached out to NCP after it expressed unhappiness about some aspects of the coalition’s working but the strain in their ties continued with the ally deciding to meet Monday to take a final decision on the issues it has raised.

NCP leader DP Tripathi meets Prime Minister

NCP leader DP Tripathi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday.

Tripathi, however, said the meeting has nothing to do with the stand-off between his party and the Congress and the issue was not discussed.

He said his meeting with the Prime Minister was in the capacity as Chairman of the Nepal Democracy Solidarity Committee India in which all political parties and civil society groups are represented.

Tripathi said he discussed the situation in Nepal with the Prime Minister.

Google buys email management software provider

Google has acquired Sparrow, a provider of email management software for Apple’s platforms, Sparrow announced.

“Now we’re joining the Gmail team to accomplish a bigger vision — one that we think we can better achieve with Google,” said Dom Leca, chief executive officer of Sparrow, in an announcement posted on the company’s website Friday.

No financial details of the acquisition were disclosed, reported Xinhua.
