“I know I look good. The regular adjectives that come my way- sexy, hot, dusky, bong bombshell… I love them. It is going to stay with me.
But I am done looking pretty. Now, I want meaty roles. I want to do
entertaining films, where a woman gets the respect of being an actor.

Heat-generating capsule jab can reduce belly fat

Researchers have developed an injection of a tiny capsule, containing heat-generating cells, which they claim can burn abdominal fat.

The mice injected with the capsule in the abdomen initially lost about 20 percent of belly fat.

Researchers were surprised to see that the injected cells even acted like “missionaries,” converting existing belly fat cells into so-called thermogenic cells, which use them to generate heat.

“Green tea is a popular beverage across the world,” said Yun Bai, professor from the Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China.

“There has been plenty of scientific attention on its use in helping prevent cardiovascular diseases, but now there is emerging evidence that its chemical properties may impact cellular mechanisms in the brain.”

Chinese Defence Minister gives Rs 1 lakh as ‘gift’ to IAF pilots

It was an unusual gift from Chinese Defence Minister Gen Liang Guang Lie to two Indian Air Force pilots — Rs one lakh in cash.

The pilots were given cash in two envelopes after they flew the visiting minister by special IAF aircraft from Mumbai to Delhi on Monday, sources told PTI here on Wednesday.

They said after seeing off Liang, the pilots checked their ‘unusual gift’ in sealed envelopes and then realised it was Rs one lakh cash in Indian currency.

Over Rs 2 L cr spent on defence equipment in 3 yrs

India spent around Rs two lakh crore for procuring defence equipment for its armed forces in the last three years, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

“Rs 1.98 lakh crore has been the total expenditure on procurement of defence equipment for armed forces during the last three years,” Defence Minister AK Antony said in a written reply.

India has undertaken a major military modernisation drive under which it is planning to spend more than USD 100 billion in the next five years for procuring weapon systems for the armed forces.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez acknowledged Tuesday that he thought about abandoning public life after discovering he had cancer in June 2011, for which he had to be operated three times.

“At a certain moment I began to think that, yes, that I’d have to leave the political arena, but thank God here I am all recovered,” Chavez, 58, said in an interview on Caracas radio station Fiesta 106.5.

Japan to buy disputed islands

The Japanese government is in talks to buy the disputed Diaoyu Islands from a family that claims to own them, media reports said Wednesday.

The central government has reached an agreement to pay 2.05 billion yen ($26.15 million) for the purchase of part of the chain of the islands in the East China Sea, reported Xinhua.

Kyodo reported that the government and the Kurihara family will exchange an official contract on the purchase possibly by the end of this month.

Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Nagahama had secretly negotiated with a member of the Kurihara family Monday.

Pak: Court notice to Zardari on dual office case

Amid controversy over Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s dual office, the Lahore High Court Wednes issued a notice to him to explain by September 14 why he had not followed its direction to relinquish the political post of co-chairman of the ruling PPP.

A four-judge bench headed by the High Court Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial issued the notice to the President through his Principal Secretary.

“We ask the President to tell the court as to why he did not follow the High Court’s direction of leaving political office of his party,” Bandial said.

India’s services sector growth jumps to 6-month high in August

India’s services sector growth improved in August – registering the fastest pace in six months – as the segment continued to show “resilience” amid sagging economic scenario, an HSBC survey said.

The HSBC’s Services Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) for August inched upwards to 55, from 54.2 in July. The index has kept above the 50-mark below which it indicates contraction, since November 2011.

‘Malware spread fastest in last 4 years; 1.5mn more in Apr-Jun’

Software security provider McAfee on Wednesday said spread of malware was the fastest in the last four years and there were 1.5 million more of such malicious software in the April-June quarter of this year.

“Unique malware samples in our ‘zoo’ collection number 1.5 million more this quarter than last. At this rate we will almost certainly see 100 million samples by next quarter and possibly the first 10-million-sample quarter,” McAfee threats report said.
