Private plane crash kills 3 Indian Americans, including hotelier

New York, June 16:Police is investigating the cause of a crash of a single-engine family-owned plane that claimed the lives of an Indian American hotelier, a Kerala native, his 11-year-old son and an Indian American doctor friend in eastern New York.

New York State police said divers recovered the body of the plane’s owner, 41-year-old Mathai Kolath George, Monday. The bodies of his son, George Kolath, and 52-year-old Krishnan Raghavan were recovered Sunday.

Passengers harassed as Cathay Pacific cancels flight

New Delhi, June 16: Nearly 220 passengers, many of them with small children, were subjected to hours of ordeal at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here Monday night after Hong Kong based airline Cathay Pacific suddenly cancelled its New Delhi-Hong Kong flight (CX-752).
All the passengers had checked in for boarding and were waiting to board the aircraft when the airline staff arrived to say that the flight stood cancelled.

“There are technical reasons for canceling the flight,” the airlines station manager told harried passengers, refusing to elaborate.

Actor-filmmaker Joginder passes away

Mumbai, June 16: Popular actor-filmmaker-producer of the 70s and mid 80s, Joginder aka Joginder Shelly passed away on Monday June 15th in Arogyanidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai. He was 65 years old. Joginder had acted in over 60 films and had also produced two and directed five five films. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Joginder had been admitted to the hospital on June 1st since he was suffering from kidney and lever problems. His funeral took place at Juhu cremation grounds in the presence of his Bollywood colleagues and relatives.

Harassed for dowry, woman ends life in Naroda

Ahmedabad, June 16: A woman hung self at her residence in Naroda on Sunday following mental and physical harassment for dowry. Her father has lodged a
complaint against her husband and family members.

According to the complaint by Ramshankar Mishra, a resident of Bhargav Society, Sardarnagar, his daughter Meetu, 24, was married to Shailesh Tiwari, an armyman posted at Pune base in 2004. However, as per the custom in their community, Mishra did not have dowry to give to his daughter and thus she was not sent to her husband’s home.

Chennai, June 16: Nearly a year after they delivered the country’s first baby born out of frozen oocyte (egg), city-based GG Hospital has touched another milestone, with a second woman conceiving through the procedure. Doctors at GG Hospitals say that they have now moved on to a “sophisticated” rapid freeze technology after which they thawed the eggs, and injected it with a prepared sperm before implanting it in the uterus.

Five die in road accidents

Hyderabad, June 16: Five persons died and two suffered injuries in three separate road accidents in city on Monday.

Ch Ravinder, 36, a private employee of Domalguda and Shaik Saleem, 26, a sales executive with Kotak Mahindra from Chirag Ali Lane in Abids died on the spot when the two-wheeler they were riding hit a road divider at Chinnatokata in Tadbun on Monday morning. Saleem’s brother, Ankush, who was also pillion-riding, suffered minor injuries in the incident, Bowenpally SI A Satyanarayana said.

BJP, PRP flay govt move to weed out bogus ration cards

CM wants Centre to take over state roads

Hyderabad, June 16: The cash-strapped state government is unlikely to give priority to the road sector this year. Instead, it wants to convert over 2,539 kms of state highways into national highways.

This would save the state government about Rs 400 crore per annum. Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy wrote a letter to the ministry of surface transport asking it to consider the proposal favourably. The chief minister proposes to take up the issue with the Centre during his visit to New Delhi on Thursday.

Contaminated water in Amberpet area

Hyderabad, June 16: Residents of Patelnagar at Amberpet have been getting contaminated drinking water for the past 10 days.

With the residents bringing it to the notice of public representatives, officials rushed to the place to carry out tests to check the water samples for contamination.

Water board officials said there are 2,000 water connections in the locality with water being supplied from two sources–Adikmet and Shivam reservoirs–everyday.

Water Board officials and representatives of the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) rushed to Patelnagar and carried out tests.

4 collectors transferred

Hyderabad, June 16: The state government on Monday transferred four collectors, appointed seven new collectors and shifted 5 joint collectors.

Medak collector Piyush Chawla has been posted to Krishna district while N Sridhar, collector of Krishna, has been transferred to Warangal. B Janardhan Reddy, the Warangal collector, has been shifted to Anantapur. Nizamabad collector B Ramanjaneyulu has been transferred to Guntur.

Teen found dead in house

New Delhi, June 16: A teenaged girl was found dead inside her house in JJ Colony in Jehangirpuri on Monday morning while her mother was found lying
outside severely injured. The incident happened around 9am.

According to police, while the child’s body was found in her bedroom, her mother had allegedly set herself afire and jumped from the first floor. According to DCP (northwest) N S Bundela, the woman had suffered severe burn injuries and battled for life for over 10 hours before she was declared dead.

Son kills father, arrested

New Delhi, June 16: A 65-year-old retired government clerk was killed allegedly by his son in the national capital over the elderly man’s “extra marital affair”, police said on Monday.

Satish Prakash, his friend Sahil, and two of their accomplices allegedly killed Raghubir Singh on June 13, they said.

Prakash and Sahil have been arrested, a senior police officer said, adding search is on to nab the other two involved in the murder.

Singh, a retired clerk with Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), was murdered at his residence in Outer Delhi’s Alipur area, the police said.
